  1. No, no parking sensors. The weather's warmed up this week so not doing it now. I will try and get it diagnosed after the holiday.
  2. I'm not sure what this is but everytime the weather drops around zero C I get this strange beeping noise in the car. Beep beep.......beep beep........beep beep.........beep beep........beep beep. It's not loud, in fact driving with the radio on I can't hear it. But ticking over it's there about every two to three minutes. It's not the Ice warning, that is a lot louder with the snowflake on the display and temperature display. There is nothing on the dash display just this faint beeping. Everything seems ok and the car is driving reasonably well. Doing 40-50mpg round town. I'm at a loss. I don't know what it is. Once the temperature rises it goes away. Any help welcome. Thanks.
  3. I was looking for something like that to brighten up the Roomster heating controls but can't see anything listed. I see SuperSkoda list this kind of thing but have read reports about items not turning up for months and months.
  4. Mine is a 58 plate Roomster 2. 1.4tdi with the old type projector headlamps with H7 bulbs. Is this the hi/lo system as there only appears to be one single filament bulb in the headlamp? The headlamps are really poor. I tried some "brighter" bulbs the other day. A total waste of money, there's no difference. So I'm now seriously thinking of fitting a hid kit. I assume I have to get a specific canbus hi/lo kit. Can anyone confirm that please? There are some listed on ebay for approx 50 quid. I fitted some on a Citroen Xm I used to own. These were also notorious for poor headlamps. The lighting was totally transformed and very impressive. And although room was tight and they were fiddly to fit, the end result was worth it.
  5. Yes really pleased with mine. The power of the engine for a 1.4 is quite surprising but I don't normally drive it hard anyway. Didn't realise there were tyre problems with the new Blingo, that is a shock.
  6. Hello Buffalox, I had an Estelle years ago, 105? What a smashing motor, I loved it. When I moved onto something else my daughter took it on and she also loved it. It seems your problem could be one of a number of things without more info to go on. The clue is it stood for some years so is probably something to do with that. Maybe a good service would do it some good. So to try and get a little bit more specific let's break this into Fuel and Ignition. Ok Fuel If it's been stood and you say the tank was completely empty there may be some muck got sucked into the carb, the usual thing that blocks up is the idle jet. Don't ask me where it is on that carb I can't remember. However if the engine will start with your foot hard on the throttle (to the floor) and it revs ok but won't tick over the chances are it is the idle jet that is blocked and it will need blowing out. Don't be tempted to poke about with wire as this can ruin your carb. Didn't there used to be a clear inline filter on these or am I dreaming? If there is, is it full of fuel? If there isn't one a quick test to see if fuel is reaching the carb is to take the fuel pipe from the carb and stick it into a bottle and get someone to briefly turn the engine on the starter. If fuel spurts into the bottle then the pump is probably ok, if not then the fuel pump will need looking at, it might want new diaphragms. Be careful though you don't want to start a fire! A trick I once did with a Citroen Bx suffering similar symptoms was to take the air filter off the top of the carb. I bought an aerosol of carb cleaner and blasted it down every little orifice I could see in the carb (mind your eyes for splashing chemicals) and it worked! It dislodged the blockage and ran great after. Now Ignition If it runs ok while it's cold but gets progressively worse as it warms up then the chances are the high tension circuit is breaking down. The favourite for this is usually the coil and it might want replacing. Also old sparkplug leads are prone to breaking down electrically. One thing that is quite often overlooked on old cars that have been standing is the points. They should be adjusted and have a gap approx 18-20 thou. or about as thick as your thumb nail. If you can't see a gap then that is probably the fault. Over the years the grease on the little cam in the distributor will dry up and the operating heel on the points will wear down causing them to close up hence no spark at the plugs. The distributor cap might be failing but I doubt it if it was running ok unless possibly the engine has somehow got wet. Don't give up on it, it will only be something silly and you will end up with a little gem. Good luck. If you know a friendly garage it might pay to let them give it a once over. Cheers, hope this helps.
  7. Just going from the onboard computer so not sure how accurate they are. I seem to be averaging about 48mpg round town so quite pleased with that. Driving like an absolute numpty coming home from work at midnight last night (no traffic about) it was reading 67.4mpg Bryan when I bought the Roomy it was a toss up between this and a Berlingo, but they seem to hold their price more and run higher mileages for the same money.
  8. Ah yes point taken. Maybe I should rephrase that and say Put the tyre pressures in the handbook as well as on the fuel filler flap.
  9. As the Roomy didn't look like it had much of a checkover before sale and the tyres looked like they all had different pressures in them, I thought I'd check them this morning. I looked in all the usual places, door shuts, under the bonnet, in the boot but couldn't find any reference. I then spent half an hour looking through the handbook all to no avail. Eventually I found on page 188 in the owners handbook "The tyre inflation pressure for summer tyres is indicated on the inside of the fuel filler flap". Whaaaat?!! Come on Skoda, this is NOT good enough! Every car I've ever owned has the correct tyre pressures for all the various tyre sizes IN THE HANDBOOK! Not on the fuel filler flap!
  10. On the whole yes very impressed. As I say the few things I picked up on are really just minor things I've noticed. I can easily live with them. The spanner is flashing and looking at the service history I don't think the air filter has ever been changed so I'll get it booked in. My youngest son had a drive today. He has a C4 coupe which is quite nippy and he commented how well it pulls. We sat in the back and had a play with the seats. The amount of adjustment is phenomenal. My son had the back reclined and his legs stretched out!
  11. Well the first day has been ok! I am impressed by the performance and although the engine can be heard inside its not unpleasant. The dipped headlights aren't quite as good as the Kia but they are ok. The seating is very comfy and there's good room inside. The boot is excellent and swallowed a weeks shopping with no problem. The sound from the radio could be from a much more expensive car. And the heating and ventilation are good. However the control knobs feel very cheap and second rate. For such a small item they could have done better than that. The knobs in the Kia felt solid and beautifully crafted and not like they'd been stuck on as an afterthought. I haven't sussed the radio tuning yet but did manage to get the "auto tune" to work which found Smooth Radio which will do for now. Surprisingly there are two Continental tyres on the front and two Bridgestone on the back. Not sure whats gone on there it having done only 20k. Also the long wheelbase is noticeable when parking in tight spaces. The service spanner is flashing but I bought a "service and mot pack" from Evans Halshaw so they can look at that. I'm also struggling slightly with the throttle pick up as there is some travel on the pedal before anything happens when I'm letting the clutch out. Which incidentally is nice and light. Not major problems with anything really. I just need a few days to adapt from driving an auto.
  12. I've been reading through the handbook. I have to say it's hard work. It must be a direct translation from the Czech. It is proper pidgeon English. I have to read sections over and over to understand it. I managed to reset the computer and am averaging just under 50mpg round town! My old Kia Carens used to do 24mpg! It was auto though but would barely scrape 40mpg on a run.
  13. I picked up the Roomy today after putting a dent in my bank balance. It was dark when I eventually dragged myself screaming and kicking out of the showroom! Why do they like to keep you hanging on for so long?! 2 1/2 hours last week and 1 1/2 hours today. They must be lonely or something. Anyway, driving home in rush hour heavy traffic in a strange car was a bit unnerving but we survived. I did 30 miles in it tonight and I'm very impressed. For a 1.4 diesel there's quite a bit of poke there. I struggled with basic stuff like managing to get all the doors open with the plip but I'm off work tomorrow so will have a good look around it.
  14. You've done quite a lot of scans there and they are all clean. I do trust Malwarebytes and have used it many times. I don't trust AVG and have heard some horror stories about it letting viruses in then reporting them when they try and phone home, and then it can't remove them!! I use Linux these days to protect myself from all of this but I do have a hdd with Xp on for a few programs that will only run on Windows and I use Antivir. It's always been excellent. However! One thing no one appears to have picked up on. You only have a 400W psu. I now run a 750W after once welding a processor to a motherboard because the 400W psu I was using failed! Maplin have some at very reasonable prices. Might be worth checking. The more components you have, the more power you need.
  15. Something worth mentioning. If anyone does want to dual boot Windows/Linux then you have to install Windows first. Then when you start the Linux install, Linux will find the Windows partiton and ask if you want to dual boot or overwrite Windows and use all the disc. If you install Linux first Windows will overwrite it without giving you the option to dual boot. Windows only recognizes Windows partitons and file systems and ignores anything else on the drive. That's Microsoft for you. Not happy till they get world domination.
