  1. HI folks, I have a 2001 Octavia TDI and having intermittment problems with the remote locking, as all the door lock/unlock but the tailgate lock does not engage. Tried WD40 in the lock to see if it would help and after a dozen or so tries with the key fob eventually engaged. However fault has reoccured. Is there a simple remedy to overcome this problem please.
  2. hope that your problem disappears and for me well since I reconnected the hose and taped it up under the CD multichanger, all appears to be working well, so fingers and toes crossed!!!!
  3. thanks for everyone who responded and shall have a go at the weekend however seems rather fiddly and will try to be careful however we shall see!!!!
  4. Hi folks, I have a 2001 Y Reg Octavia TDI estate. There is a slight dent in the tailgate to the left side as you face it at the side of the number plate, which I am sure will easily knock out, and wonder how to remove the inner plastic trim which is the width of the tail gate itself.(this is below the glass). I can't see any screws etc to get access to it and and don't wish to force it either in case the plastic breaks.
  5. I have had central locking problems with my tdi Octy estate and checked as suggested and in CD compartment the screenwasher pipe had come loose and whole area wet. Managed to dry it out as suggested and reconnect pipe and used the hairdryer and WD40 and the next day the central locking worked via the key fob, mind you only for the day as no longer working but much better than before. Hoping that after a few more days and another hairdryer session that the central locking starts working and responding to the key fobs!! Thanks for the advice!!!! Lastly can anyone tell me how to stop the windows from winding down as a pain to close with the key whilst fobs not working? I have to get out of the car and open the passenger door and press the door locks button on the drivers door and only way to leave the car locked.
  6. thanks for your response and shall have a wee look in the boots area under the multichanger. Can't recall if I said it was an estate?
  7. I am aware this appears to be a fault with many Skodas from what I read. I have a 2001 Octavia TDI estate and have changed the batteries in the key fobs, red light blinks when pressed, and the cars central locking does not trigger. I also have to open this manually as it is a pain as many times the 4 windows go down and I have to gently fiddle with the lock and get the doors to shut manually. I also noted that once in the car, when I press the button to lock the doors internally the locks go up and then back down again and cannot reset from there. Any ideas?
  8. I used to have an 02 Octavia Classic SDI and still have the tyres for this which are 175/80/14 (on sale on E-Bay). My current Octavia is a 01 TDI Elegance Estate. I thought that I would use these for during the winter time in place of the alloys, however when trying to fit them to the front they would not fit as the brake disc appeared to be too big for the 14 inch wheel. I assumed that all the tyres for the Octavia would have been interchangable, but seems not. Can anyone enlighten me if this is the case, or perhaps the previous owner has put larger brake discs in hence they would not fit? Thanks:rolleyes:
  9. I really do appreciate your comments as thought that there may be an adverse effect upon the driving/handling which obviously I will observe, and if in the future I feel the need to buy bigger alloys I will, and sell the old ones to help pay for them.
  10. Thanks for the response, and aware that the width is from 205 to 195, and the sidewalls from 55 to 65, and do you think this will make a big difference to the handling or grip? I should have added that I have had the car remapped and is faster hence the questions etc. I do not drive it like a madman as aware it is an estate and also it's age!!
  11. HI folks, just need some advice. Bought a Y reg. Octavia TDI and noted the 16 inch alloys/tyres 205/55/16 were shot, so as part of trade in managed to swap my old 15 inch Bora alloys 195/65/15 to the estate. These are in good condition with good tyres. Both of these are about the same size so no issues with the odometer. Is it worth my while looking out for the original size 16 inch alloys and replacing the 15 inch ones, or do you think that there wouild not be much difference in them with grip, road holding etc. Many thanks DTY:rolleyes:
  12. Thanks for the clarity in this and really appreciate the information as now I don't need to worry and will just use the same bolts for the new alloys when they come. Many thanks.
  13. I thought that with alloys that you had to get special bolts as the old bolts for the steel wheels would actually dig into the softer compund of the alloy? Can you clarify this please? As far as I am aware the Bora alloys appear to be genuine originals from the car and not aftermarket ones. Does this actually make a difference from what you implied it appears to be the case?
  14. Hi folks, new to the forum and seeking advice. I apologise if this is not the right place to air this or it has been done before. Bought a set of used VW Bora alloys which I will pick up in 3 weeks. Need to know what size of bolts I require for this as aware I need those specifically for alloys. I have a mark one 2002 Octavia. I have just been at the scrappy's and got some off an old Golf's alloys, and the actual thread is 30mm, whilst the old bolt from the steel wheel is around 25mm. Any ideas?
