  1. And now a new substantially reduced price! So check out at: http://go.redirectingat.com/?id=38947X1001323&site=briskoda.net/normalusers&xs=1&isjs=1&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.autotrader.co.uk%2Fclassified%2Fadvert%2F201508276392496&xguid=df82fa52484558ca202d30c9334ba8b1&xuuid=8e4a9abe98c9c6f04528ddebb000dd0d&xsessid=01af302f3915eb8f15f29feb504e866a&xcreo=0&xed=0&sref=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.briskoda.net%2Fforums%2Ftopic%2F369983-fl-octavia-estate-vrs-20-tfsi-dsg%2F&pref=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.briskoda.net%2Fforums%2Fforum%2F116-cars-for-sale%2F&xtz=-60&abp=1
  2. Speedy, capacious, comfortable and good looking - what more could you want! Excellent condition, 59 plate, not yet 6 years old, low milage (< 52000) AND brand new engine under warranty only 15000 miles ago (see relevant postings). Many extras. See auto trader ad if you're interested: http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201508276392496
  3. I bought the car via Drive the Deal which used Marlborough Skoda, Isleworth to source it. As the car was out of warranty and Marlborough are some way away I contacted SUK who suggested the nearest dealer - Citygate. As I understand the SUK warranty and SOGA, once out of warranty, recourse lies with SUK and not the dealer, so the dealer is immaterial. SOGA applies up to six years from purchase so, although not the same as a warranty and even out of the warranty warranty period, if the product is not of satisfactory quality or is not fit for purpose you have a legal right to a refund, repair or replacement. Note, this does not extend to fair wear and tear. Since the car had been serviced regularly, according to SUK warranty requirements, and the timing chain was not due to be examined until the 40k service SUK could not argue FWT. BTW, I don't believe Citygate have anything to do with Palmers, thank heaven. I tried Palmers once, about the feathered tyres, but they were so hopeless I never returned. It was no surprise that they lost the Skoda dealership. Citygate were excellent - as they should be, for this was a large workshop job for them.
  4. Hi Nigeld, I made the suggestion of the timing chain tensioner as the possible cause, having seen this thread. The dealer removed the engine and stripped it to find the cause. I'm not sure how easy it is to prove it was the tensioner, however probably because there is no other obvious cause it was reported back to SUK. SUK then asked the dealer for further details, as one might reasonably expect them to do. Once satisfied SUK approved the replacement engine. I'm not sure that they would accept so readily the view of an independent dealer - but who knows? There is now sufficient evidence of a systematic failure so SUK dealers should know what to look for, especially with a helpful suggestion. Hope this helps.
  5. Another one! Octavia vRS TSI DSG Estate 59 plate, 3 years 11 months since new, 36500 miles. Failed to start, with very expensive engine noise. Checked with Briskoda to find this thread - a great help - thanks to all. Phoned SUK, advised to transport to local dealer, Citygate Watford. Suggested possible cause which they eventually corroborated. Citygate very helpful, provided courtesy car (Superb), but slight ****-up between Citygate and SUK (who checked service history and proof of fault) so it took a month in all, but now running with new engine (plus 4 year service and MOT). Mention of SOGA works wonders: original SUK offer 45%, then 100% parts + 75% labour, eventually 100% as dealer and SUK split the odd 25% as "joint contribution". Not sure of final (retail) cost but probably about £5000. I had feathered tyres replaced too, so I can't thank Briskoda and contributors enough!! BTW the new engine must be registered with DVLA.
  6. Have a look at post #183. Exactly the same situation - if it's in warranty you're certainly covered. If it's Palmers you're dealing with you'll need to persist but go direct to SUK.
  7. Tyre success! Informed of uneven rear tyre wear at 20k service. Would I like replacements? No thanks and to cut a long story short: * checked with Briskoda, found this thread, * not impressed with SUK, back to dealers and SUK, * alignment checked and corrected, tyres not covered by warranty but offered £50 voucher, not acceptable * pursued SUK for 50% rear tyre cost under Sale of Goods Act 1979 as not "satisfactory quality/fit for purpose", "duty of care" to inform owners of excessive tyre wear and replacement costs once Technical Bulletin issued and "sharp practice" when trying to sell replacement tyres knowing but not correcting geometry problem, * cheque arrived today, three months after service. Thank you Briskoda and earlier posters
  8. Thanks mannyo, I'll give it a try. Is copying any better than burning another disk (I used UltraISO at x4 speed - the slowest available)?
  9. Thanks again Carl. I've already tried the reboot - without any noticeable difference. I'll have a look for the Map partition erase disk and try that - when it's stopped snowing!
  10. Thanks for the ideas but I'm using Verbatim DVD+R and V7 seems to work fine from the DVD (ie 7 character post code and camera pois) so the disk data is being read - it's just not giving me the option to copy to the hdd - anyway this can be forced?. If not, I guess I'll leave in and hope it pops out in due course!
  11. Oh dear! I thought that had been fixed as it did the upgrade to v6 maps and, I've just checked, the upgrade to 2724!?
  12. I'm on 2664 but the v7 maps won't load to the hard disk (they work fine from the dvd), would moving to 2764 help? Or is there some way of forcing the disk copy?
  13. I've managed to find the v7 maps with cameras and burnt the dvd. The maps work fine from the dvd but I've forgotten how to transfer the map data to the hard disc! Can anyone help with the simple transfer procedure? Many thanks.
  14. Yes, I came across it. Similar to POInspect0r (but more user friendly?). Having invested considerable effort in POinspect0r I'd like to get it to work - has anyone managed to use V4.1 successfully?
  15. I've used POInspect0r to pick up icon files and custom camera.asc files (from PocketGPS) and then burn a new V6 map dvd. After loading the dvd, the RNS 510 shows the new icons when selecting POI categories for map display, but the cameras don't show! I've tried searching for known camera positions on the new iso image file (eg Redlight at 51.7489, -0.3348 and Truvelo at 51.7245, -0.3404, according to Google maps) but without success. So, either I'm not getting the camera files correctly or they're getting scrambled somehow - could anyone confirm the camera positions for a starter? Any other suggestions for getting a V6 map dvd with custom camera POIs welcomed!
  16. Which guide did you use with which sofware/versions?
  17. Has anyone successfully updated the V6 map DVD with POIs. If so, how - is there a guide available? The Ray Girling guide doesn't seem to work with POInspector V4 or maybe it's the V6 maps?
  18. I sent my Columbus to a chap in Poland to fix the DVD drive and in the process he was able to read/reset the security code. It cost me 100E and the postage, which seemed good value for saving the £500 of an ebay purchase. He features on vwnavi.com/my-gti.com quite often. You can contact him by email: [email protected]. Hope this helps.
  19. Disappointing not to get any offers of help but upgraded to F/W 2724 over the weekend and lo! Secret menu now accessible, ROPS and Climatronic display now working and MFSW working for volume control but not station change - but not bad. Now for V6 maps and camera poi - any suggestions?
  20. I have finally managed to fit the Columbus unit bought last year, after sending it to Martin in Poland to get the DVD player fixed. It now seems to work, apart from the MFSW controls and the climatronic display, though the parking sensor display is OK! Presumably I need a VCDS tweak or two? I'm happy to travel anywhere in the Herts/Beds/Bucks/N.London area if anyone is able to help. PM please.
  21. I've just refitted a Columbus and would like to get it talking to the MFSW. Anyone in the Herts/Bucks/N.London area able to help (for the usual liquid refreshments!)?
  22. There's not much point writing to the CEO as your letter will be diverted to Customer Service before he sees it. For what its worth, my letter is shown below. It did not elicit an immediate response, this only happened once the County Court proceedings got underway once the 7 days had passed. Thereafter things happened quickly! Let me know if you need any further help. Customer Services Skoda UK Selecta Post 34 Sheffield S97 3FA Dear Sir Warranty Claim Reg Num xxx It is now four months since I first reported to Palmers of Watford the appearance of rust on the tailgate of my Octavia VRS Estate. I understand the vehicle is covered under warranty yet I seem to be no nearer getting the matter sorted out now than I was then. Palmers have taken photographs; I have taken the car to a VAG approved bodyshop for paint thickness measurements and more photographs: I have provided evidence of the etched VIN details on the tailgate glass and made numerous phone calls to Palmers (contact diary attached) - all to no avail. Four months is more than enough time for any competent organisation to honour its warranty obligations and so if I don't get a commitment to fulfil these obligations within seven days I intend to start proceedings in the County Court. Since the whole experience of dealing with Skoda Customer Services has been nothing short of appalling I am copying this letter to Palmers too. Yours faithfully
  23. Have a look at my posting ( #9 http://briskoda.net/forums/topic/75838-palmers-skoda-watford/) re rust warranty claims. Experience suggests you will get satisfaction if you doggedly pursue the matter, gather the evidence to support your case and initiate County Court proceedings once you reach a dead-end with the dealer or SUK. If you have a case, SUK will be keen to keep the matter out of court to avoid the adverse publicity. Good luck.
  24. I looked into this last year when ordering my DSG vRS. It comes down to the options specified by SUK for each model from those made by Skoda. SUK appear to have down-speced a variety of options (eg tinted windscreen, locking petrol flap) including the electric folding mirrors - where, I was told, a different (cheaper?) wiring loom is used. It was for this reason that retro-fitting would not be possible. But if anyone can do it I, for one, would be interested!
