I've had this very same experience a number of times with my Octy - thought it was just that I wasn't engaging the clutch sufficiently. It's a tad concerning, because I had a simmilar experience with my Peugeot 306 and managed to go through two gear linkages in this way! The third time it happened I waved goodbye to the Pug and bought the Octy - a great move, but I'd feel very sad if this happened to the new one.

There's an Octavia police estate doing the rounds in the Dagnell area, which I imagine is probably Beds police's. I think I've also seen them in Hemel too as a command(?) car. We did once have an unmarked silver mark I Octy in Hemel keeping a stealthy eye on things, but I've not seen that for a while. Someone on this website probably owns it now!

That's my only real gripe about the car too - I'm not exactly fat, but the sides of the seat dig into my thighs, and I get back ache driving the car no matter how I adjust the seat. It seems to me that the front of the seat cushion tapers up too high. Maybe it's more of a problem for taller drivers (I'm 6ft 3).

Hi, I'm getting wind noise from the back passenger door of my 54 plate Octavia 2.0tdi when travelling at over 70mph - and my mechanic can't figure out why. Perhaps it's been in a crash, but there's no sign of it - the door seems to fit absolutely flush. Also, a passenger said they could actually feel the wind coming in. What could this be? BTW, I absolutely love this car, which I bought a few months back - value and quality doesn't come any better than this. Also, can you tell me if chipping is a good idea? I'm told I can boost the BHP from 140 to 170 for around £400 and gain better MPG at the same time... Thanks.

Hi everyone, Proud to be part of the gang - I've joined because I absolutely love my 54 Octavia 2.0tdi 140 which I picked up a few months ago. It's got speed, great MPG, great looks, solidity, etc. No wonder it was car of the year. But tell me this - I'm getting wind noise from the back passenger door over 70mph - and my mechanic can't figure out why. Perhaps it's been a crash, but there's no sign of it. Also, I don't find the seats comfortable...
