  1. "Does this sound right?" - roughly - mine started with 7500 miles but went to 6500 fairly quickly "Does not allowing the car to regenerate (short journeys) reduce the countdown quicker? " Beware not letting regens happen If the vehicle is not driven in a way that automatically regenerates the particulate filter, it will build up an excessive amount of soot, which, if not resolved, will reduce the performance of the vehicle and damage the filter. If the filter does build up too much soot, a vehicle warning light will appear to alert the driver. The problem can usually be resolved by allowing the filter to automatically regenerate until the warning light goes out – i.e. by driving the vehicle at 50mph or above for at least 20 minutes. The vehicle handbook will have specific guidance for the vehicle. If traffic conditions and speed limits do not allow the vehicle to be driven so that the filter regenerates, it will have to be returned to a dealer for a forced regeneration to clear the filter. If the warning light is ignored and the vehicle is driven without regenerating the filter, it will cause damage to the vehicle, which will not be covered by warranty can cost in the region of £1,000 to £1,500 after a driver has failed to follow the correct regeneration process.
  2. Car picked up new car on Friday 8th Dec - L and K with Canton sound system - anyone else had a problem like this ? I cant see its worth pulling the door apart for until it reoccurs. This is from my note to the dealer (140 miles away but there is a local Skoda dealer in Aberdeen for warranty work) - Thoughts ? Severe Crackling / Distortion in Driver Side Speakers (probably driver door ?) When it was found: This was noticed on Sunday 10th December with only a couple of hundred miles on the clock. It also repeated on the morning of Monday 11th December. In both cases the was after a cold but NOT severely cold night - circa -2 degrees C. Symptoms: Severe distortion in the right hand speakers. The closest description to sounds I have heard before is when connecting either a headphone or speaker where the connectors are not making good electrical contact. Buzzing, crackling & distortion. On the Monday the sound returned to normal after a couple of hours driving with the heating on. It has been fine since then up to the time of writing 13th Dec noon. Analysis: Potential driver side speaker fault or loose connection. Metal shrinks in the cold so it is possible for an electrical connection issue to manifest in the cold if the initial connection is not up to the required standard. The passenger door speakers were fine so it is an isolated drivers side fault as opposed to a speaker design issue. Clearly such an issue in a brand new car is not acceptable. The car electrics should operate in typical UK winter conditions and -2 degrees is not unusual. Indeed I note that the car is sold all over Europe where winter conditions are much colder than the UK. Planned Steps: Given that the problem has not re-occurred since Monday morning I do think there is merit in observing the behaviour for a period of time to aid any diagnosis and remedial work. This is particularly true given any investigation may need the door card to be removed to access the speakers & connections, it would be nice to avoid this if possible. If the problem doesn’t reoccur then great and if it does we will all have more information to justify & inform the next and more intrusive warranty steps. Given there is a 5 year warranty and the problem was clearly present from new I think this is the most sensible way forward to minimise disruption and maximise the chance of the actual root cause being traced first time should intervention be needed either in the near or distant future.
  3. Just picked up my L&K estate on Friday. Noticed this after just 10 miles on the clock on first use. The "spray" is more of a drool that dribbles down the window on one side for the wiper to catch. Will post pics and you-tube at the weekend. Hopefully someone will be able to confirm if that's the same behaviour for them or if I have a blocked/broken rear washer nozzle.
  4. I drove a 230 Octy VRS DSG as a comparison - noisy and unrefined even in non vrs mode - not a patch on the calm quiet 190 PS diesel spotline I test drove. Been driving VAG group diesels for > 15 years though.
  5. Well a mere 5 1/2 weeks after ordering I got a call from the dealer. My car has been built and is on its way. Delivery probably end Nov / start of Dec. I will be driving down to Ayr from Aberdeen after getting a large CarWow discount plus £4K from the scrappage of my 05 plate diesel Octavia II. Any suggestions for pick up checks before I drive off ? Spec is L&K 2.0 TDI 190 PS DSG Business Grey metallic / Black Leather Temporary steel spare wheel (PJB) 3 spoke leather Multi-function steering wheel with DSG paddles (PLE) Wireless phone charging with Bluetooth+ and Wi-Fi (PT5) Heated windscreen washer nozzles (9T1) Rear-view parking camera (KA2) Variable boot floor (3GN) Waste bin in door panel (3LE) Rear backrest release from boot (UK3) And yeah I'll be regularly doing regens on the DPF but I like the way the 190 drives compares to the petrol 220. Also Also comes with 5 years extended warranty and due to the scrappage deal a free Skoda 2 year 20000 mile service plan. Cheers D
  6. Final decision and button pushed. L&K 190 TDI - 2 wheel drive version - black leather / business gray - Reversing camera - Flappy paddles - Waste Bin - Rear seat release - Heated washers - Phone box with wireless charging & WIFI - Variable boot floor / space saver wheel - 5 year warranty - 2 year servicing (thrown in) List - £36,760 + £630 for the warranty OTR Price £28356 inc carwow discount and £4000 scrappage on my old 2005 Octavia Hated the petrol when I test drove it - liked the 190.
  7. Decision after test drive of an Octavia VRS 230 PS DSG - Diesel 190PS DSG all the way
  8. Thanks Matt - I've near Aberdeen so a bit far. Off to Edinburgh at the weekend to test drive a 230PS DSG Octavia VRS - should be okish for comparison given I drive an Octy just now.
  9. So Skoda Customer Service can help - not a single 220PS available anywhere for a test drive :-( Any Briskodian with a 220PS in Scotland want to help out ?
  10. Have contacted Skoda UK customer services to see if they can help.
  11. Just a reminder - I've done enough research on the pros and cons of each. Its now about how it feels to drive to me = that's a personal thing. SO I'm not interested in opinions about which would be best or other engine options. I'm only interested in arranging a test drive.
  12. Ok I need some help. I've narrowed my choice of superb to a Petrol 220PS DSG or a TDI 190SCR. I know the colour, extras and spec level I want. Just the engine. I'm not interested in opinions about which would be best or other engine options. I have looked at that in depth on this forum and elsewhere and these are my final answers. I have test driven the 190SCR and have driven VAG group PD Diesels for the last 16 years and like them HEART says TDI 190 DSG HEAD says Petrol TSI220 DSG I'm quite keen on the TSI from various viewpoints: price, no ad-blu complexity, less <10K miles/year, future gov attitudes on diesel inc Euro6 BUT I cant push the button on an Engine I have never test driven. The way a car feels and drives is intensely personal and is everything particularly for a car I'm keeping long term Skoda John Clark in Aberdeen (and most of Scotland) only has diesels for test drive Is there anyone in Scotland with a 220PS TSI superb (or petrol Octy VRS which has the same engine) that would be willing to take me out for a spin and perhaps let me drive for 30 minutes or so (with you in the car) to help me decide. I live near Aberdeen and would be willing to drive around 2 or 3 hours to meet up. Cheers Darius
  13. The leather debate is all very interesting so will be useful to others however in my case my current 05 Octy has leather seats, I'm happy with them and would not go back. Hot temps are not a problem in Scotland apart from the random couple of days between June and Aug where the temp may just get up to mid/high 20s (the overall record is just over 30). Its 11 degrees just now #summer.
  14. I think leather is a personal choice. Must have for me. I have leather heated seat in my Octavia and would not go back. Less need for cooling in Scotland :-) What do you think re the ad-blue. Seems others have had issues with it messing up sometimes.
