  1. It's a plug that connects to the bottom of the actual switch that you use to open/shut the window. I've not taken mine off (have done on other cars) so can't tell you exactly how to take it off, but shouldn't be difficult.
  2. Definitely the discs. Had the same problem with my old MK1 Octavia vRS where I think the snow was rapidly cooling the discs and then rapidly warming up under braking which warped them.
  3. Try cleaning the window switch connector - may fix it.
  4. I've just booked it in for the coil pack and they are adjusted the headlights for me as they are too low even on the highest setting for free! Bit of a surprise. I get about 25MPG on the way to work, which is just 7 miles but I suppose that could be because the engine is cold for half the journey.
  5. Hi All, I have a 2006 Octavia vRS with 40k miles which I've owned approximately 9 months. There are several things with this car that irritate me... 1) Poor sound proofing - It sounds like I've got a window open, furthermore I've had to wedge a small folded piece of paper between the glass and rubber seal on the nearside rear window. I find that if I move the windows up (when they're actually shut) it helps cut the noise down a little. 2) Poor idle - It's not very smooth at all, but I'm hoping a new coil pack fitted free of charge by Skoda due to a recall will solve this - fingers crossed. 3) Poor electrics - Example: Interior lights flicker. Headlights dim noticeably when closing the window. 4) Dodgy sound system - I don't know what my head unit is called, it's not a Columbus or Bolero, but it will sometimes fail to play CDs. Sometimes takes ages to play a track when you skip through, can sometimes stop playing the CD altogether. 5) Returns same MPG as my previous car on the same journey (1998 BMW E36 M3 Evo 3.2) 6) Engine rocks when changing gear or with the slightest amount of throttle. It's not excessive but very annoying. Getting a price to have the engine/gearbox mounts changed. 7) Rear tyres wear down on inside edge and cause excessive noise making me think that a wheel bearing was on it's way out. Skoda want £185 just to look at it - no thanks. 8) Loud shock absorbers - when going over large speed bumps you can clearly hear them - is this normal? I've not noticed it on any car I've owned before. 9) Drivers door speaker vibrates with the bass. Door also makes a funny 'boing' sound when it's being shut. What have you had and what have you done to fix them?
  6. I used to go to them quite often but they've said in the past that they don't do the rears.
  7. It's a 2006. The guy who told me it couldn't be adjusted had the MK1 Octavia vRS (I've had one of these too and have been told that this one couldn't be adjusted too). I didn't have the tracking done so don't have a print out unfortunately.
  8. Hi, Not long ago I had the front tyres on my car changed and asked the garage to check the rear wheel bearings as there was a loud droning noise. The guy come back to me and said that it was the rear tyres which were "sawtoothing" so I had the rears replaced too. Now, I am aware that it is to do with the rear setup of the car but the guy told me that the rear can't be adjusted. In fact, most of the other guys that I've owned couldn't have the rear alignment adjusted either. Has anyone actually had theirs done and in the Hampshire/Berkshire/Surrey area?? Skoda said they will get VW to check it for free but would cost £185 to correct - no thanks... I've recently E-mailed a place in Reading which have a 'Hunters' machine and they've asked to see my car before they can advise on the rear adjustment, which to me sounds like they've never adjusted the rear on a Skoda/Volkswagen/Audi/Seat.
  9. Hello, The battery is around 12.3v and with the engine running it was 14.2v...
  10. Cheers buddy - I suppose 5 years is quite a long time for a battery. I really like my old Mk1 though it was standard and not 250 BHP!
  11. Evening, I have recently bought my second Octavia vRS (other was a Mk1) and have noticed a few problems. I think I know the answers already but would like to ask anyway. First off, the interior lights... The main interior light as well as the backlight in the display between the speed and rev gauges flicker - it's quite noticeable. Also related to this when I close the window or windows the headlights dim slightly. They dim even if the windows are closed and I just press the window switch. Even turning the steering wheel slightly whilst stationary will dim the lights. I am thinking that it could well be the alternator but the car has only done 31k miles and is 5 years old. Having said that it has spent most of it's life thus far in the Isle of Wight so maybe the sea salt has got to the electrics - perhaps I'm just talking out my backside. I've got a multimeter so will test the battery at some point but to save time does anyone know what the voltage output should be whilst the engine is on/off. Other problems I've got is the nearside rear passenger window doesn't seal properly so either the window seal is broken or the window just doesn't go up all the way. Anyone else had this problem? And finally, I think is just the tyres but holy moly they are incredibly loud. I can hear them droning even with the radio on. I've had Goodyear Eagle F1s before on one of my previous cars (Accord Type R) and didn't notice any excessive noise.
