  1. Hi all, I'm looking at passing on my Fabia to the missus as a good excuse to buy one of the MKii Octavias. I've retrofitted a iOplay bluetooth to my Fabia which I use all the time but slightly disappointingly only the SE connect has bluetooth built in and I want cruise control so the likelihood is an Elegance with some retrofits. Now my question is there are 2 cars I've seen at my local dealer, both Elegances but one with an Amundsen nav and the other I assume is a Bolero as it has no nav. Neither have the Amundsen+ like the Blackline appears to have in the guides I've seen previously but how hard and expensive would it be to integrate bluetooth into the system that's there on both? I'm also looking at adding DAB again to be integrated with the existing systems which I'm guessing would need a new arial making it quite expensive as I don't want to have two on the roof but if I'm wrong about that then please feel free to correct me! My other option is to get an I30 which has bluetooth already in it or a golf match which has both however I thought the VW wasn't as nice and am still to try the Hyundai. I do know the new ones have both too but I don't think my budget would stretch that far unfortunately! Thanks Dan
  2. Direct line quoted me £680 but I got them quite easily down to £630 when I was on the phone canceling the auto renew but then it turned out they cocked up my details for another year (this is the 3rd time now) and they put my quote up and after haggling I was back at £680, I wasn't too happy with them and didn't really want to stay with them and their only competition was morethan in the end who quoted me roughly the same but when I put my excess to £650 it knocked it down to a reasonable £645. I'm just hoping I don't crash now! Looking at a lot of companies they all seem to have a minimum excess of £400 for young drivers so next year when I'm 21 I guess things will be a lot more reasonable. Thanks for the advice
  3. I recently bought myself a Fabia 1.2l sport and had to pay the grand sum of 80p + admin fee to upgrade from my old 1.1l 106 for the last 3 months of my policy. Sounds daft as even though they are the same bracket one was worth 5x more than the other. Anyway I'm not complaining but I'm due again soon and want to get some quotes sorted early so that I'm not rushing around later on. Currently I'm expecting a renewal of around £650, I'm 20, been driving 3 years with 1 years no claims (regretting 2 years as a named driver). Anyway there are a lot of posts for VRS's but I was wondering what a respectable quote would be for my 1.2 petrol. I live in a nice part of Northampton so shouldn't pay much of a premium in that sense (although I pay more than I did at my old address where I parked on the road instead and wasn't as safe an area...explain that) Direct line generally give me a better quote online then they also reduce my policy for being a named driver with them but I still make sure I get them down even more (saved about £280 on my policy last year by haggling + moaning at them)
  4. Bought my fabia from here, was allowed to take it out on my own after leaving the keys (which isn't bad providing I'm 20). I have to admit I wasn't planning on getting after seeing it online but after seeing it in its spotless condition and the great help I received I went for it. I told them I could get it the next week so in that time they serviced it, cleaned a couple of bits inside that I asked them to look at and cleaned it on the outside the night before collecting along with touching up some paintwork and getting me some Mats. Not only that but Nigel the salesman who dealt with me helped from start to finish and it even involved him coming in on the day I collected the car which was his day off and before they normally open. Its not very local to me but I would be happy to go back there again.
  5. On a trip from deep in the peak district to Northampton Via Loughbourough (about 150 miles) with 4 mates and a packed boot from an overnight stay the car told me I had been doing 53.3mpg, It suprised me though with the added weight and the steep inclinations which my 1.2 engine struggled a little with in places. Its a new car so I'm waiting to get some accurate figures myself but generally what is the difference between the trip computer and actual figures? I am quite a chilled driver so most of the motorway sections I was between 60-70 and a section was 50 for roadworks but it still seems a lot with the added weight etc.
  6. Does anyone have any 4" Co-ax speaker recommendations to stick in the rear grills?
  7. Yeah I do like the idea of getting the rear speakers fitted as I do have people in the back now and then who cant hear a thing on motorways. Also I found on my old 106 that it just gave a fuller sound by giving me music rather than road noise from the back. However I'm not sure now as if I upgrade the head unit I know that it will sound much better although the only head unit I have really liked the look of so far is that becker one which I think I'll have to save up for after I pay my dad back for his car money loan :rotz:
  8. Currently I have a 4 speaker version of a Skoda Sport 1.2 2007 (56) with multi-changer. It sounds terrible though and I'm wondering what the best method to upgrade would be. My first question is what is the power output in a symphony head unit? I ideally don't wish to replace this as swapping will never look as good. Any work I'd like to carry out myself as I'm fairly technically minded but here are the options I've looked at. Buy a pair of 4" speakers to put in the rear slots (I'd probably prefer to leave the tweeters in the door) however there is no wiring for this yet. Firstly what speakers would you recommend from experience where is the best place to run the wires? the speakers will be in slots left and right of the parcel shelf in the section left for them. Also would It make much difference if I were to just replace the front speakers as they sound really flat (again leaving the tweeters) with something a little better. Obviously the wiring is already there for these but if the head unit has a lowish output then is it going to make much of a difference? I'm not in much of a rush to get this done so keep advising
