  1. Cheers for the link, they do look make the car look better IMO. So, when you say crazily expensive for the R32 ones, how much are we talking about?
  2. Hi all, Has anyone fitted the sideskirts from the Mk5 Golf GTi or R32 to their octy. It's a mod i've been considering for some time now so if anyone has done it and wants to share their thoughts (and post some pics of course) thanks Gary
  3. On xenons the bulb is screwed into the reflector behind the projector lens and connected by a cable to the ballast, which is screwed into the rear cover. Are you considering a full retrofit of factory xenons? Because I would be interested to see that done!
  4. I'm not sure if the actual lenses are different but the back is, the reason is that the D1S xenon bulb and ignitor are screwed in so the rear of the lens unit differs from the halogen unit (which the bulbs are only held in by a retaining clip.) Part numbers are; 1Z2 941 017 L and 1Z2 941 018 L for Halogen (L/H and R/H respectively) 1Z2 941 017 E and 1Z2 941 018 E for Xenon The rear covers are the same for both types, probably just to simplify things during production. Hope this helps, Gary
  5. I've got a 6000k kit from HIDS-Direct that was originally in my 2003 Passat, that doesn't cause bulb alarms and definitely no fiddling with VAG-COM:thumbup: I wouldn't recommend this kit though as one of the ballasts only lasted just over a year (out of warranty dammit! ) so I went and bought a pair of replacement ballasts from HIDS4U, which are a hell of a lot better
  6. Just found them 2x T10 W5W 2 LED NO ERROR WARNING ECU SUPER WHITE BULB on eBay (end time 07-Jul-09 07:27:16 BST) Little bit of a price hike at £17.99 delivered compared to Mater's £6.50 though... but would certainly be a better match to the xenons compared to Philips BlueVision, and they're not cheap either. Gary
  7. Yep definitely about £8 (Just found the invoice £7.57 + VAT) I had to replace mine too a month or two ago, Sparshatts Skoda in Fareham, my local dealer, had to order one as 'its not usually held in stock' Part number is 1Z0 853 679 A LAQ, comes in 2 parts, a backing plate which you stick to the grill with evostik, then the badge sticks on top of that with double sided tape like shark_90 says. I agree with the choice of car colour too! Hope thats of some help, Gary
  8. Yeah i suppose on thinking about it a strap wrench might do some damage to the filter housing, again there's probably a specialist tool like everything VAG... might be worth asking about that too
  9. Hi, Just had a look on ELSA and all it suggests is to use an oil filter wrench, doesn't specify what the jaw size should be though. My best suggestion would be to use a chain type wrench as they give a decent amount of torque to undo anything thats seriously jammed on. Also when putting it back together, the filter housing should be tightened to 25Nm, and all of the gaskets/o-rings replaced. As for the orangey valve at the bottom, yes you remove that to drain the oil from the filter (supposedly using a VAG specialist tool... which all of us have of course:rolleyes:) And finally, i haven't got a clue as to why they put a big arrow on the filter cover, probably going to be one of those unsolved mysteries for now. Hope this is of some help. Gary
  10. When you switch on the ignition the headlights move through there full range from bottom to top to establish reference points and to set the correct beam range. There are sensors connected to the suspension that monitor the angle of the car (whether the front is pointing up or down) and adjust the headlight range automatically to keep them pointing at the road as you're driving
  11. Hi, as far as spare parts go, the foglight comes as a complete unit from the dealer, or luckily someone is selling a N/S fog lamp on ebay at the moment skoda octavia rs fog light on eBay, also, Skoda, Car Parts, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 15-Jun-09 18:10:24 BST) The slightly bad news is to replace the foglights involves removing the front bumper as the foglight unit is screwed in from behind. Have a look at this thread for a decent write up on how to do it http://briskoda.net/octavia-ii/mkii-octy-vrs-front-bumper/107962/ HTH Gary
  12. I have to agree with Oggy's opinion. When i got my mk2 vRS it already had Hankook ventus v12 evos all round and I'm impressed too. Traction in both wet and dry is very good and road noise is very low, but then this is dependent on the quality of the roads in your area, as we're quite lucky here in Portsmouth as about 75% of the city's roads have been resurfaced. Can't comment on durability yet as i have only had the car for 3 months
  13. Your're right about the race blue one, thats the newest one I think. I've spotted at least 6 Octy vRS that Hampshire police use in and around the Portsmouth area, 2 Mk1s in Silver and Black, also 3 Mk2s in Race Blue like you said, a Black one which I saw in a local dealers car park after fitting out, and also one in Silver. They also use a Mk2 vRS estate in full marked livery This is probably why Hampshire Police have no money!! haha Gary
  14. Hi everyone, I'm Gary and have changed my VAG allegiances and have been the proud owner of an 07plate TFSI Octy vRS for a little over 2 weeks now, and I'm loving it!! It's a hell of a lot more fun than my old Passat TDI (which was still capable of destroying the boyracers around Portsmouth http://briskoda.net/images/smilies/biggrin.gif) but this is a whole different animal! One thing I have to say is that I'm liking the respect (read bricking it) I've had from other drivers when they think its unmarked plod, even an marked beemer slowed down when passing me just to see if it was one of theres!! http://briskoda.net/images/smilies/B_thumb.gif I'm sure this forum is gonna be of great help to me, and when I get round to taking photos of the new ride I'll be sure to post them Gary
