Fan resistor replaced...now has hot Bakelite smell
Thanks again for all the comments. Car has been Glasgow to Aberdeen and back over past 2 days and not a whiff from that direction, so I'll put it down to excessive protective coating or just cheap/nasty on the aftermarket - for which I obtained a refund π

Fan resistor replaced...now has hot Bakelite smell
Thanks for all the suggestions... On a gut feeling I opted to replace it with the OEM resistor - Β£97 from the stealer.βΉοΈ However, so far so good... π€ no unpleasant fishy/Bakelite odour. Provided no repeat of the smell, it'll be the 1st time an aftermarket part has let me down. It may be the case that the odour would dissipate after a week or so, but I'm not the main driver and I didn't want to risk it cooking up or frying the connector plug as well as itself. Thanks again π (Image: the offending part which failed)

Fan resistor replaced...now has hot Bakelite smell
Fabia III fan only working on setting 4, so a bit of research turned up the resistor failure as a common problem. Purchased an after market replacement for Β£18 on that well known online company named after a south American river, and swapped out the failed part. Set off and after 10 minutes noted that hot, electrical odour in the cabin reminiscent of hot Bakelite plugs (showing my age). Smell persists over fan settings 1, 2 and 3 but not 4, which makes sense given that the power for 4 is fed directly to the fan motor without going via the resistor. Considering swapping the cheap aftermarket resistor for the more expensive OEM in the hope that solves the issue. Anyone had similar experience or thoughts on the matter?

Apple Carplay has vanished! ???
Thankfully resolved by simple Restore Factory Settings. Just an observation, but judging by the number of threads appearing on here relating to infotainment system issues, VAG need to have a critical look at whoever is responsible for software updates and third party integration.

Will give it a whirl π€

Apple Carplay has vanished! ???
A little help here... Have two Fabia III models in the family: 68 and 19 plates. Identical in all but colour - so you'd think. The 68 plate has for some reason dropped Apple Carplay completely, yet a check on the system info shows it remains identical to the 19 plate, which still has Carplay. Any ideas?

MkIII Estate (MY2019 Facelift/shelf bumper) Towbar
Anyone sourced/fitted a towbar (fixed or detachable) to a MY2019 estate? (The Facelift, which has what I've seen referred to as a "Shelf Bumper"). Can't seem to find either a towbar/fitter/manufacturer for my model, which is somewhat annoying/inconvenient. Cheersπ

1.0l MPI Timing Belt Change at 50k/5yr - H2O pump?
Thanks Ken. I've only got experience with the oil burners we've had... Octy 4x4, Octy Scout and Fabia Greenline. I guess I could phone my main dealer and pick their brains as to the 1.0l MPI.

1.0l MPI Timing Belt Change at 50k/5yr - H2O pump?
Quick question... When changing the toothed/timing belt on a 1.0l MPI at 50k, is it necessary/recommended to change the water pump at the same time? Or can the water pump be done separately, given the configuration of the engine?

Considering used Fabia MkIII 1.0l - tips?
Well, that was 2 hours and a 32 mile round trip I'll not get back. Utter lemon! Ad says "Private" sale. Turns out the guy is selling it on behalf of a "mate" who, wait for it, owns a garage. π Leaking oil spread over the rear underside. 5 year/50k service (biggy) overdue. Brakes grinding. Parked with handbrake off and rolled against kerb - guess it's binding. Interior shabby. Exterior similar. Guy still asking for more than the top price quoted by Autotrader for that model/age/mileage - and that was after knocking Β£300 off the price in the Ad! Funniest thing...advertised as "excellent condition inside and out" π€£ Only benefit was letting my 18yo witness at first hand what you're up against trying to find a decent 2nd hand motor. π‘

Considering used Fabia MkIII 1.0l - tips?
Off to look at a 2016/66 Fabia 1.0l for my 18yo. Private sale. 55k on the clock. Wants over 5k but that's not going to happen - especially as the timing belt will need doing in the not too distant, given its age. Other than the usual, any tips on what else to be on the look out for with this model? Water ingress, engine issues, shocks etc. Cheers
