  1. I have an almost the same problem. 2009 plate 1.9 with 82,000 miles on the clock - giving it some welly to join the motorway and at 4,000 rpm sudden loss of power - no warning lights at all. Took it to the garage - they diagnosed either faulty Turbo or Sensor - changed the sensor as this was a lot cheaper. Also bought some Diesel Turbo Cleaner from Forte for it. Had that in for 2 days and yesterday the same thing happened again at 3,900 rpm - but turn off the ignition and restart the engine almost immediately - problem gone. Is this the Turbo or is it the MAF or is it something else?? No obvious smoke out eh back, but it does seem to use more fuel than my wifes almost identical Octavia. I'v only had this car 2 months and I am worried I have bought a lemon. Any help appreciated Thanks
  2. I like as well. I've not done any customisation of the beast as yet - so a good place to start then. Better check with SWMBO first though:) Might help stop other drivers from assuming its a small skoda and jump out on me at roundabouts - big prob where I live! Cheers all.
  3. Thanks Rotodiesel, Good advice and the job all done now - and it actually works so even better! Just got to go and tow something now....... Cheers all
  4. Thanks Rotodiesel, I'll have a look tonight and see if I have any SP washers around. Cheers:D
  5. OK, So the metalwork is all on now, and the towbar electrics are into the boot area. Now for the scary bit! I've identified all the wiring colours for the lights. Obviously 2 wires need to go from O/S to N/S - can they be put behind the black plastic cover just inside the boot? If so, how do I get this off? It looks like 4 or so plastic screw connectors and the tie downs, but I'm not sure. Also, the 12V power supply to the relay - how do I get this out of the panel - I am not sure about just hauling on it. Also will the return wire be brown as well? I presume the power take off is from the input side of the socket. I am sorry for all the questions, but I am nervous about screwing up the car electrics, so any help would be really gratefully received. Thansk for any help:thumbup: Cheers Michael
  6. Hello all, I am going to fit a towbar soon and need to take the bumper off to do so. Can anyone give me any help as to how to do that without breaking anything please? Any tips and tricks for the wiring up of the towbar electrics would be gratefully received as well ( Thanks to Octygone for his PM help earlier today already) Thanks all Cheers:thumbup:
  7. If you look at the section entitled Performance they make it clear that this is the old model they have reviewed by talking about the "new model launches in September", but posted a pic of the new one - Shame on you Top Gear. I would have expected better. Cheers all BTW - wish I could afford to buy a new model Sup - Stuck with an old one for now!
  8. Right, The Race X Guage came in a few days ago, and I tested the tyres this morning and checked how accurate the guage on my pump is compared to the Race X one. As I thought, the pump guage is accurate, ( or at least it reads the same as the raceX!) so I have been keeping the tyres at 2.4 front and 2.2 rear. - This also means both my pen guages are also spot on. So - this still leaves the question - is the recommended 2.4 bar on the fronts correct or is a mistake by Skoda leading to premature wear on the fronts by making us overinflate the tyres? Any ideas anyone. Cheers
  9. OK, I've ordered one of those guages, and I will post up the results when I get it in. Thanks all Cheers
  10. Thanks Numskull for the pointer to a good guage, but I am already certain that the tyres are more inflated than they need to be. But the rears are fine done with the same pressure pump and cross chekced with 2 diff pen guages - they can't all be exactly the same "incorrect" reading. Remember the backs are wearing just fine with the correct pressure, so the fronts must be to the "correct" pressure. My real question is whether I can trust the requested pressures on the fuel filler cap. The care has the optional 17" Solids, but the Comfort of the age came with a steel set of 16"s as normal. So is the filler cap sticker for those wheels, not the ones I have. If I don't hear anything to persuade me otherwise, I will start putting all the tyres at 2.2 and ignore the 2.4 on the label. Poor show from Skoda Thanks for all the help and cheers all.
  11. Yep, Cross checked it with 2 different pen guages I have and they all come up with the same result, so I know it works. Cheers
  12. Sorry about that - Should have said. Mines are 225/45 R17 91Y Aren't the 55's bigger than specified and wouldn't that change the accuracy of the speedo due to slightly greater circumference to the tyre? Cheers
  13. Hello All, I have Goodyear F1 GSD3's all round on my car. I regularly check and keep the pressures at the recommended 2.4 bar at the front and 2.2 bar at the back - as per the manual and stickers on the car. But thefront tyres have worn down in the middle of the tread to just about the legal limit in about 8000 miles - the outer sections are still at 3mm, so plenty tread left in half the tyre. This is a big waste of tyre life as far as I am concerned. This obviously looks like overpressure on the fronts but I have been very careful to follow the recommedations. This also happened in the Sport Contacts before as well, so it's not a tyre problem as I previously thought. First Question - what tyre pressures should I use then? Second question - Any ideas as to a good long lasting tyre as I am sick of changing tyres too early - I used to rep a lot and got 30 to 40,000miles from a set of front michies several times. Sorry for the long ramble BTW, Love the forum - great to see evryones questions and answers - I am gobsmacked at Baker21's dedication to clean cars - he is welcome to come and do mines anytime he wants - how much do I have to pay!!!! Thanks in advance to anyone who can help. Cheers
  14. Fish Brothers in Swindon have always been good to me. Bought the car ffrom them and all warranty work done very quickly and efficiently. They come and pick up most times and usually leave a car for me just in case they can't get mines back in time - this is from 25 miles away so that's not bad. Only 2 services so far - Variable - over 4 years, and very good there. Only black marks against 2 things, but both they rectified themselves for me with no charge, and a nice apology. Got 2 other dealers with 25 miles as well - Bamfords in Goucester and Steets in Bristol. Bamfords didn't want to know my car with a warranty issue because I didn't buy it from them - so they don't ever get my car for anything. Street are a new dealer and never been there yet - I know the owners a little, so will give them a try soon. Cheers all
  15. QUOTE=superb555;932315]Well out of all those posted i think I win right now lol 2002 52 -- PD130 ---------- 137 500miles ----- 1100 miles per month average Do I get the gold medal lol OH and NOT a taxi Phew that is a lot of miles! Mines is an 03 52 with 65,000 on the clock. Not as many as yours but I bought it at 12 months old when it already had around 44,000 on the clock. The garage had it for a month before I bought it so the previous guy did 4,000 miles per month on average:eek: Can anyone beat that! Oh, and it wasn't a taxi either. cheers all PS, can't wait for the new superb next year. mmmmmmmmmm Estate 2.7 diesel L & K Thanks very much!
