  1. I'd be interested to know more if you can send me a message I can give you an email addy for photos. Whereabouts is the project?
  2. Quite rare seen locally, beautiful Lea Francis 2.5litre Sports drophead and some other LeaF's on an owners club do at Pateley Bridge a few weeks ago. I would love to see that old 1958 1100cc OHC Skoda sports car some time! [it only weights in about 550kg!]
  3. Another reason why for the last ten years I haven't wished to have any more pets - the number of not so nice stories I read about vet practices.
  4. Hmm nice in a way. My dad has a mint french Dinky model of one in metallic pale green, for some reason I quite like it. We had one at college in the motor vehicle workshop when I was a city & guilds student. I seem to recall it was a pale blue. I had the dubious pleasure of having to use it in a practical fault finding test where the workshop guys set up some faults for us to find. I seem to remember finding an indicator or hazard lights fault and that wasn't part of the test LOL
  5. Seriously considering moving to the USA? Until you see the minefield that is even applying for a visa. If you do, then do think very very carefully and be prepared for a wait. GB isn't even on the list for favoured status for immigrants anymore. I've great friends in the states and I've even considered a couple of jobs over there - so good luck if you really consider it! Glad you're enjoying driving. I've stayed in rural New England a couple of times with friends and really enjoyed it. Some of the beautiful countryside was really special.
  6. Coming from the South then towards Thirsk I'd go via Coxwold, Yearsley, Hovingham, Nunnington, behind Wombleton to Kirkbymoorside, lovely quiet and very scenic B roads abound, then from Pickering via the old Roman Road north to Grosmont and Whitby. Nice driving too But then again, not if your a speed freak.
  7. Nice one Zlin, not out of place to me, no sir. Lovely car. I wish I had one!
  8. Bugger, why didn't I see this again on the new content link when I clicked it. I'm free tonight but its an hours drive up to the Metro Centre, and it started 3 mins ago. Ah well. Maybe next month. I might be free if you're thinking of a mini meet on Saturday, but Sunday I'm back to work.
  9. A scottish friend of mine has a theory that several Scotch delicacies do not travel south of the border because the English don't deserve 'em. Also some don't travel very well. Mind you, this from a fellow who thinks that whiskey is ok with an Irn Bru mixture because they both come from Scotland. Personally I don't like Scotch pies so they're not on my radar in the shops.
  10. If you do a forum search you'll find that Jorily Automotive went into liquidation back in June, I know someone in Leeds who was in touch with the liquidators about buying the Skoda parts stock a few weeks ago but its sold and he said he heard there wasn't much in the warehouse. regards
  11. Just placed mine in the back window of my old '88 Estelle yesterday
  12. Got cracking with removing the loud and rusty exhaust from my 120L Estelle. Took ages of removing other things to finally get off the manifold nuts because the studs and nuts holding the exhaust pipe to the manifold were totally siezed! After messing about for an hour I had to jack the car up to make the exhaust and manifold clear underneath, but finally could get a better angle to tackle the exhaust flange nuts. Sadly one stud is broken but with a good 10mm clear to aid removal, another is bent and the third is fine. Off to the agricultural engineers in the village tomorrow methinks.
  13. The proper Skoda factory workshop manuals do turn up on ebay. The Haynes one was issued several times and I have seen them on ebay for 99p. The most common ones do appear to be the ones printed that say the models covered end in '85 or so though! Just a case of keep looking. Should not be hard to find, the workshop manuals are more like £10 or more when I have seen them.
  14. The workshop manual I have is dated August 1987 and states the current range of cars is not suitable for continuous use with unleaded fuel. However unleaded fuel can be used under the following conditions: 1 if one tank of fuel is used for every tank of unleaded fuel then no alterations are needed to the service schedule or the vehicle. 2 if any greater proportion of unleaded fuel is used then the service intervals for the adjustment of the valve clearance must be reduced to every 3000 miles. 3 Unleaded fuel may be used on condition that a minimum of one tank of leaded fuel is used for every 1700 miles or 3000km. This is equivalent to one tank of leaded fuel for every four tanks of unleaded fuel. This proportion should not be exceeded. In addition part 2 above should be observed. I don't know if this changed for 1988 and the later rear engined cars - because obviously at this time it was being brought to their attention about the problems of unleaded fuel. Did they ever fit hardened seats to the last of the iron head cars? The octane requirements are interesting too. The 105L and SP and the 120L and GL only require a minimum of 90 octane.
