  1. Had conti sport contact 2 on mine and forced into changing the front yesterday after 26000 miles!!! Not bad I think. Brought the rears on to the front but don't think I will get much more out of them. Have to say I liked the feel of the conti's and tried to get another set to replace the fronts but turns out they are on back order from manufacturer. I had to chnage them this week as going on a long trip to cornwall on Friday so after a bit of reading up got a good deal on a set of Toyo T1-R,
  2. Will the tyres not wear prematurely in the middle of the pattern?
  3. Fitted my bars over the weekend and got the same result with the footpack not sitting flush with the car body work although the bars are sitting flat. If they are bent then they are either faulty or maybe the fixing kit feet have been mixed up there are specific ones for the front, rear, left and right. Spoke to my supplier, Snowchains, and they said this was a known issue. Also spoke to a chap at Thule ([email protected] - 01275340404) who claimed I fitted it incorrectly and knew nothing about this. Spoke to Snowchains again, they know the indivduals at Thule quite well and will take this further on my behalf. I have asked Thule to develop a flexible gator to fit in the gap at the bottom. This is not being worked on at the moment but admitted the more people who phone up and complain the priority for this will increase!!!! Bit anoying to have spent
  4. Not sure yet. Just got delivery of mine yesterday and will be fitting this weeked. Will let you know. Just to check I got 860 Aero bars, 751 footpack and 3003 kit. Did you get the same. My aero bars don't have a natural bend
  5. For give my ignorance but I am considering buying roof bars and 511-1 veloce cycle mounts (basically because my frame wall is so thin I am concerned any clamp on it may damage) and am now concerned about this stress sfracture issue. Can you tell me a little more about how and why this happens. Basically is everybody saying forget fork mount
  6. Is your car remapped? Even standard the Fabia has a lot of torque for such a small car. And it is a bit worse with a remap. I too get a 'rattle' when accelerating hard at 1500rpm. I would describe this more as a resonant vibration rather than a rattle. I think I remember a motoring magazine commenting upon this and they sited the cause as the fly wheel. Driving style can also play quite a big part. There is an interesting thread regarding driving above 2000rpm. In there it also strongly suggests progressve throttle use. I have played about with this some what over the past week or so and find even when accelerating below 2000rpm if you use progressive throttle then the vibration is minimised and the car also performs better. I would try that before going to the dealer if it is the same vibration as I experience.
  7. I have always had some suspicions over the braking in the car whilst being driven hard. Was racing a Polo GTi from St Andrews to Kirkcaldy the other day and decided to really pay attention to what was happening. Polo was no real match so it gave me a chance to 'over break' into some corners to really work them hard. I found as they warm up they drop in sharpness and become slightly more spongy. Then as they get really hot they lose all progressiveness and its either all or nothing. Your foot is telling you its pressing against something hard and you interprate this to be the floor although I doubt it is. However this bottoms out and there was always enough there and at no time did the car feel as though it would not stop. I think the disconcerting thing is the transition rather than the lack of performance. I think when you are tottling about town they are actually more than you need, you get accustomed to this and become more sensitive to performance. I have thought about changing the discs to Octy ones and have decided against. I think replacement with some really good brake fluid and different pads (will need to search some fo the reviews to see what everybody else thinks is good) will be more than enough
  8. Just back from the dealer this morning. Car was in for the fuel thingy recall and also to remove the stereo as it was showing 'no disc' when trying to eject and the mrs put another CD in....doh! Also volume adjustment was very sensitive and would sometimes go down instead of up and vice versa. Did not give me a replacement either and said it has to be sent back but told me it would be back in 7 - 10 days. 6 weeks seems a bit extreme. I woudl challange them on this. Dealer I went to is Graham Chatham in Edinburgh
  9. Anybody here got a Talex GPS Speed Camera detector? I am considering buying one and would liek to know if anybody else has or has experienced one. The way the Talex works is through a database and not through active detection there for it gives warnings for 'known' sites as opposed to actual traps. Just want to know how annoying it is
  10. Go to http://www.blackcircles.com/ They quote the Nankang tyres you have seen. They also give a crued evaluation of them; good, better or best. They only rate them as good. They are about the same price as your ebay seller. In fact they also seem to have just about every tyre type I have ever seen. Prices can be either dealer fit or delivered to your door. I know a few guys at work who have used this web site and were not disapointed.
  11. Appologies got the Arnold Clark Slogan wrong. it is "Promises Delivered" - Still my A*S
