  1. I've just bought 4 pilot sport 3's (225/45/17) at £117 each fitted which i was quite pleased with. I got them from the the Cosco Michelin tyre centre which i believe are dotted all over the uk.
  2. Hi all, Going through some pretty nasty problems at the moment as the "topic description" would suggest. It all started when i noticed that i was getting the coolant level warning tone/light on every 2-3 weeks which I presumed was an external leak on a pipe somewhere. Failing to see any obvious signs of a leak I thought i would continue to monitor the situation before seeking any professional help. A week or so later the car began to become more and more difficult to start in the mornings practically after the weekend when it had stood for a few days. Eventually come the white smoke come in the mornings and boy did it come....absolutely bellowing out to the degree i thought the car was on fire ( I actually stopped to check ).. this smoke is white and stops after about 1-2 miles but can get a bit scary (more so for the poor sods behind me i would imagine). Reading several scary post on the web which explain that my engine (especially on my year) which is 2004 BKD (2.0tdi) was prone to developing a porous head which is scaring the pap out of me as the car has no warranty on. I've also heard for a Skoda Tech over the phone that the egr cooler is prone to leaking internally which is a major case of coolant loss on my engine.... Just wondering if anyone on here has had any similar symptoms and if they were resolved by either a bypass of the egr and cooler or a new cylinder head ? Thanks for any input to this topic as well as any advice.
  3. Done a fuel filter change last weekend and ended up with the same problem but to a greater extent (F*&%king Diesel everywhere) and ended up loosing half a tank over a one day work run (40 miles). Turns out the large "main" sealing ring inside the housing had been wrongly situated into the housing (as thats where it was found when first cracked open). Infact it is supposed to be streched around section of the lid which goes into the housing and not just slipped onto the ridge inside the housing. As obvious at it sounds (and looks) it took a bit of digging on the internet to see this job done when it soon became apparent where we went wrong. Although you may not have tampered with your fuel filter there may be a chance the seal has either perished or slipped down slightly. If this is the case there is a small gap at the top of the filter housing where a screw driver (or a fancy key of some sorts) is used to prize the lid off if there is still a vacume in the housing, if the seal has slipped fuel can (and will) pee from this gap and is easily detectable by simply turning the key to start the fuel pump up (no need to crank the engine). i've been told by a friend that diesel around this area can by dodgy as the cam belt is located under the fuel filter housing and the diesel acts as a lubricant causing the belt to either "slip" or perish. I don't mean to worry you or sound too negative towards your situation but if can help you or anyone else in the future it's worth checking (if only for the £30 worth of diesel if nothiong else).
  4. Nice work M8...Looking to start doing a similar sort of project on my own, nice to see it can be done and in such fine style. Side strips, bumpers and spoiler will be my first port of call providing I can get them at a good price...(ebay hopefully). Keep up the good work !!
  5. Ha ha...welcome to a real forum for real cars young Mr Auld..
  6. Well since there have been 221 views of this post and only 2 replies (cheers GED-VRS & prolfe"") I thought i'd bring this subject to a close. As GED-VRS on ere and some friends of mine surgested it was a fuel pump problem (or rather a blown fuel pump fuse problem) causing all the panic...still a bit puzzled why the diagnostics tool couldn't give me any sort of hint or a nudge in that direction but we got there eventually. During fault finding process we thought we would take a look at the Fuel filter and OMFG...."mingin" to say the least...slime all over it and the Diesel which filled the canister was black when we poured it out, so all-in all it was a good job we cracked it open for a look...not that i know too much but that sort of dirty fuel going to the injectors can not be good at all. New Fuse and nice new fuel filter she's back to her best !!!! ..(30p fuse £21 filter and few cans for my M8) jobs a guddin !
  7. This has been sugested by a pal of mine and guy who done the scan for me...cheers for your input "GED-VRS" M8, much appreciated !!
  8. Hello fellow Briskodians ! On my way to work this morning travelling at about 40mph in 4th when the engine lost power a gave the sensation of a "block gear" change throwing me forward slightly...I dropped down to 3rd and the car pulled away again. About half an hour later when almost at work the car gave up the ghost, "smoothly" cutting-out with no lumpyness or "kangarooing" , just rolled up. Only the the battery warning light was on but when trying to fire it back up the car cranks but no start-up but plenty battery power there. It's almost if theres no Diesel in it but I have a full tank of BP as always (never any super market crap) although I did add a dose of Forte on this weeks fill-up. Eventually just had to have the car Relayed home and there it stood untill a friend put his diagnostics scanner on which brought up no codes ? Still everything seems to "turn over" quite strongly but no start-up ? If anyone could chip in with any experiences it would be greatly appreciated as always.. (some cause of "Fuel starvation" has been suggested due to fuel pump or something around those lines)..any ideas Chaps ?
  9. Just removed mine today to upgrade the puddle lights to LED's (which is a nice look btw) and they came off quite easily useing a very fine knife edge and a terminal driver, (all sounds a bit Pikeyish but it worked well). As said above the cover is just clipped to the base of the wing mirror and with a bit of care and manipulation they pop right off with no need the to remove the glass at all.
  10. As appose to the 1.8T Audi which has more flat spots than the Dutch country-side...30Mph-100Mph I know who'd win !!!
  11. Anyone got the Pt Number for the little mesh cargo net the covers the little cubby storage compartment at the drivers side rear of the boot. the plastic brackets have smashed off mine :(
  12. Has anyone ever done this job and if anyone plans to do this there some great pdf files on ere on the cleaning process but unfortionaltly theres very little advise on the Turbo removal process...Can anyone give a little advise from past experiences on the Turbo removal and anything I should be watching out for. We plan to take it from the Top of the engine bay whilst on axle stands (to allow for hose access from under) but any advise would be massively appreciated. This is said to be a very successful and rewarding job once done as the PD turbos can become very carbonated and very choked up causing "Sticky Turbo veins" whilst a small fortune being saved at the same time.
  13. Posted a thread a few weeks ago but thought I better start a new one due to it not being updated for a while. Had the dreaded limp home mode kicking in on my Octy2 140 Pd Tdi at 3000Rpm (usually whilst overtaking) causing a few "hairy" moments. Due to recently been made redundant as soo many at the moment, I haven't had the funds to get her into the stealership for a Vag-Com scan so tried a few thing my self. Cleaned Maf sensor, changed panel filter, removed and cleaned inlet manifold along with the Egr valve most of which have been first for me but had the help of a good friend who knows a bit or two about Mechanical fitting even though he is a Ford owner (Gulp)... Strangley the car went sweat for a day after all of this even with an "Italian tune up" and it went well over 3000rpm with very noticible power gain so i'm smilling thinking we'd fixed it...NOT the case !! :thumbdwn: The following day back into limp home at 3000rpm so off the the stealers it went... As suspected after reading soo many related posts on here which have been very helpful btw, It turns out I have the "Sticky Turbo" symptom causing "Overboost". Now according to the stealers this is a new Turbo Jobby ??? Not the case according to some outstanding posts from the fellow Briskodians who say the VNT Veins and actuator can be freed up with a bit of care during removal and cleaning process..
  14. Hi to all, As the title surgests this is only my second post but my first real problem with my octavia 2. I've had the car (pd 140 Tdi) for around seven weeks and it has covered 74,000 miles. This had been a fleet car only before me and is in crackin nick which full Skoda service history and was well worth the money IMHo...Due to my own stupidity I bought this car with only 30 days sellers warranty declineing the over-priced extended warranty.. (How stupid do I now look seven weeks on) . Yesterday I was passing a "Sunday Driver" at around 70mph when suddenly the car lost all power and went into "Limp-home" mode and eluminated the "Check engine light". After switching off the ignition and restarting the car everything was back to normal so I decided to give it a brisk drive to see if the problem re-ocurred and sure enough at around 70(ish), back into limp home mode :thumbdwn:. The car is fine through the gears and still pulls well which has sort of steered my thoughts away from Turbo problems i've read about (wishingly). The only other obvious problem which I have read about which produces this scenario is the Maf sensor being dirty or on it's way out ??? Anyone with any thoughts on this, it would be great to hear from you's as always...It shoud be going onto Vag-Com tomorrow at local Skoda dealership at the cost of £36 which I thought was pretty decent..?? At least that way I get the error code and see if the jobs do-able by myself !!!
