  1. I've got an ASR OFF button on mine but when I press it there is no indication that it's done anything i.e. no lights go on or off on either the buton or the instruments.
  2. I worked out how to do it when I first got the car but turned it off as I was always exceeding it (but only by a little)
  3. There have been other threads where this has been discussed, I'm hoping that when the tyres are changed there will be an improvement. I've got Goodyear Eagle NCT5's but I don't know how they comapare with others though.
  4. Nor my Elegance, or not that I've noticed and I think I would have. Maybe the L&K's are graced with it.
  5. I don't think the waterpump should need replacing at 34,000 miles but maybe others with experience of what happens if it fails may know better. I fo think that £669 seems to be a lot for a service, what else are they doing for this other than the normal checks and oil change ?
  6. I suggest you read this : http://briskoda.net/octavia-ii/leather/162032/
  7. If you haven't got it on your new1.4 TSI then it could be just another example of Skoda UK not being very good at getting the details correct in the brochure. I wouldn't be too concerned, whilst it may be a nice feature, I think most people have been driving long enough to know when to change gear by themselves without being distracted by the maxidot to tell them.
  8. Britannia rescue do roadside assist from £29 and UK recovery from £65 with discounts for some organizations, see Breakdown cover - Britannia Rescue - UK & European Breakdown Recovery and Roadside Assistance
  9. My wife's Polo recently needed a replacment wing mirror and the glass just unclipped from a round plastic moulding behind it. I also saw a BMW without the glass in the mirror and it appeared to be the same. I presume it's similar in the Octavia too and there were two wires which just clipped on to connectors. If you can get the glass off then you should be able to check there is power going to it with a meter and also if the heating element in the glass isn't open circuit.
  10. In the VW Golf brochure it states that "Some parts of leather interior will contain artificial leather" but it doesn't mention this in the Octavia brochure (or at least not in the July 2009 one).
  11. If there's a clause in the contract which means that they will never pay any claim then the contract should be declared void and they should refund any premiums paid otherwise they are getting payment without providing anything for it.
  12. Just to clarify, not originally posted by jzc008 but by simbo99
  13. I don't know whether this is because the glass is (supposed to be) too hot to touch or whether it's because the mirror can get stained with heated fingerprints.
  14. There was some debate about whether the steering wheel was leather in another thread but I think the consensus was that it is.
  15. Ah I see, you have to swithch it with the knob separately. In my Passat I think it was supposed to come on at the same time as the rear window heater. I'd better check they're not on all the time !
  16. Maybe it's just that heated mirrors don't have the heating capacity like the rear window. The Passat I had was supposed to have them and I couldn't tell if they really worked or not and the new Octavia seemed to take a long time to clear the glass, so long I'm not sure if they wouldn't have cleared on their own. I'm not sure which position the control knob is in though, why should this make a difference to the heating ?
  17. Can you hear the engine rattle on start-up from inside the car or is it only noticable outside it ? I have a 1.4TSI manual and I can't hear any rattle from inside but have not heard it being started whilst I've stood outside. On previous cars I've had it's normal for there to be some noise from hydraulic tappets on start up until the oil is pumped to them but I don't know if this is the case for the 1.4 TSI.
  18. I notice that in the document you linked to some of the items that are listed as covered on page 6, such as the Fuel system sensors and throttle body, are also listed as optional items on page 7. I don't know how much you paid for your warranty but I've just got an online quote for Car Care Plans warranty and it was less than £160 for a car of less than 5 years old (note my car is just a few weeks old so the cost may well be more in three years time). I don't know what it is for cars over 5 years but less than 10 however I expect it to be less than £200. I also can't see how they will not refund your money. Although you have made a claim they have rejected it so it's not like it's costing them more than what you've paid them.
  19. I hope it works out for you, as far as I'm aware there are no wear and tear items in the gearbox other than the occaisonal topping up of lubricant when required and I certainly not within 63,000 miles. I'm sure Skoda don't recommend any replacement parts in the service schedule for it.
  20. That sounds outrageous ! How old is your car and how many miles have you done, was it the gearbox itself that hey think is worn or another part that failed that they consider to be a fair wear and tear item (if so then IMHO they should still pay for the gearbox) ? I've had cars that have done over !00,000 miles and were 11 years old without needing to replace even the clutch, do you know at what point do they consider things to be fair wear and tear, is it defined in the terms and conditions ?
  21. Is it caused by condensation on the inside of the glass ? (or from your title you may like to suggest to your 'Widow' that she sees a doctor )
  22. They're on my FL Octavia too and were also on my previous 1998 VW Passat. I wish they would also put it on the front panels as well, I was contemplating having it done but was put off by the £300 cost.
  23. I agree, I'm not happy about the calls to ban fireworks as I used to enjoy buying them myself when I was a kid but we didn't use them to cause any vandalism and respected other peoples property. Whist I don't support the calls to ban them the kids who get up to such tricks are going the right way to get them banned as people will say enough is enough. Maybe you can console yourself with the fact that the ones who do this sort of thing will unlikely to have anything they desire themselves and will always be jealous of others. Hopefully you can minimise the cost of repairing the damage to just the excess on your glass cover and the cost of replacing the rear parcel shelf which I wouldn't think would be too much. Possibly the marks on the seat covers will look better when cleaned and be something you can live with. I don't know if it's possible to touch them up with anything that will mask the damage.
