  1. Cheers for the detailed reply. Forgot to mention, that the car had been sat at the airport for a week, so maybe could have been related to this? (but I had driven for over half an hour before this issue occurred... and since I've only just got the car I find it difficult to potter around :p ). Car has just gone over 30k miles. I've only had the car for less than a month, and I've been trying to use super unleaded, but now you mention it, this last tank was standard unleaded, and to be honest I hadn't really noticed a difference between them in regards to performance or economy! Only reason I'm trying to stick to higher octane fuel is due to the fact it seems Skoda recommends 98ron as preferred fuel for the engine. Hopefully it is just down to a mix of the car sitting around and rubbish fuel... but will be keeping a close eye on it and if happens again will be checking the plugs. Out of interest, what is the gap required for the spark plugs? Can this be checked by myself or does someone mechanically qualified have to do it with some magic tool?
  2. So as I stopped at traffic lights yesterday my vrs dropped down into 1st gear as per usual, but as it did so there was a judder and the engine management light flashed all for around 10 seconds... but then all was fine. I've done searches on the forum and all I can find is that it's a possible misfire and spark plugs should be changed... but they were all changed only 1k miles ago! Anyone any suggestions? Cheers, Gordon.
  3. Official Briskoda Fabia II vRS Register Date of Registration: Sep 2011 Colour: White - black roof Options: Sat Nav, Cruise, Bluetooth, Climate Control, Parking Sensors, Arm Rest, Sunglasses Holder, Steering Wheel Phone/Radio Control, Black Gigaro Alloys, Black Headlights... think that's it, 1st owner was Skoda as a demonstrator so was fully loaded with lots of extras!
  4. Just wondering if there are any 'hidden gems' on the Fabia? E.g. on some previous cars holding the unlock button opens the windows... there have been hidden menus on the display... and other hidden things like that.
  5. Ha, in the past I would have... but my rock hard, bone shaking ride suspension days are over. Although only a short test drive, I like the compromise between comfort and handling of the Fabia. Well that's comforting to hear a good story on here! Decided to take a warranty out - £350 for 12 mths and the garage will throw in a full service too, which it needs in 1000miles anyway. Plus, from looking on here, the engines which go are around the 30k mark... which mine is nearly at. So fingers crossed, I've got a good one... but if not, the warranty will cover it
  6. Is the oil issue the key to having a healthy car? Is that the main cause of the engine issues?
  7. Yeah, that's what I was hoping, thanks! Already been told off for driving it 'too spirited' during the test drive! All I wanted to do was test the paddle shift was working :p
  8. I've just bought a 61 plate white Fabia VRS which I collect on Saturday. I can't wait... but... I've just been flicking through this forum and there seems to be a lot of people on here who have had to replace the 1.4 tsi engine which is getting me a bit worried! Is this VERY common? Or is it a typical owners club forum problem which means it isn't really a massive problem but because people generally only go on forums to report problems with their cars that it makes it seem like a big problem? If you can get your head around that previous sentence, what I'm basically trying to ask is should I be worried and think about taking warranty cover out etc or not? Cheers, Gordz
  9. Aren't the petrol versions always cheaper anyway though?
  10. It's had all it's servicing at Skoda main dealer, so surely they'd have been replaced by now? Is there anyway of checking by looking under the bonnet to see if they've been replaced? Bit worried about this injector issue now, sounds serious!
  11. He said that he wouldn't go lower than £6195, but I visited today during my lunch break and so couldn't spend long properly haggling etc. Put off travelling long distance, as I bought my current car from a dealer 50 miles away. And I had to go back 6 times to get problems sorted during the warranty. It was a nightmare!
  12. Well, that's the thing, I've been waiting for one to come up in my area for months! Yeah it's got full service history, Skoda dealer for all but last years service. Sorry, forgot to state it's a garage selling it, not a private sale!
  13. Currently looking at a 2007 (56) Octavia VRS TDI Estate... It's done 107k, FSH, 2 previous owners, and in average condition cosmetically, but drives like a car that's done half those miles! He wants £6195 and will include full MOT and give it a service (but adamant he wont throw in any tax ). It does have quite a few painted over stone chips on the front and rear (which I suppose is better than open rusting ones, but the slight difference in colour bugs me!), and inside isn't exactly pristine. So, is £6195 a good price? I know only cosmetic, but those little imperfections makes me a bit unsure. Plus I hate being ripped off!!! But am I just being picky? :S
  14. Went to visit car today and it had different plates. The correct ones this time! He had been waiting for them to come through apparently. At least the panic's over now and I can decide whether to hand over my hard earned cash or not! Thanks for the quick responses
  15. Currently looking at getting an Octavia VRS TDI estate. However, went to have a look at one today; ex-company car with full service history, decent price and is very local which makes a change, so it seems perfect... ... but I did a quick free registration check this evening, and it came back saying it was a BMW!?!?! It's a private plate, so could this simply mean the previous owner transferred it recently and the garage hasn't been informed? Or should I be running away and never looking back?
