  1. I don't know if it will help you or not, but in the US they are referred to as the skid guard, or more properly the lower valance. Hope this helps. -Bill
  2. I hate to ask the dumb question here, but could you all please elaborate IE translate to dumb yank for me? What does N/S/F foot well mean? Would this be the passenger side on a left hand drive car?, or would this be the drivers side. I can keep up with most stuff, but the NSF thing has so far eluded me. -Bill
  3. After almost a month of paperwork (this country blows on that respect) I will be claiming my 2005 Superb with full option package and 2.8L v6 next week!!!! 56,000Kms on the clock and in surprisingly good condition considering the gulf tears cars apart quickly.....well the locals do anyway. Its a non local owned and cared for car with full service history. Any input on gas mileage with the 2.8L? I have read 30 mpg(ish) or so, any worse or better stories? -Bill
  4. Well I don't know if they are available in the UK or not, but back home (US)I had(when I go home I will be digging it out of storage) a Monster cable Ipod Fm transmitter. It rocked beyond anything I have ever used to include hard wired Ipod connections. I could literally program it to what ever station I choose AND even if its a powerful station it will black it out to the point where cars 15 ft from me at stop lights would be listening to MY ipod. Fantastic product and while expensive, WELL worth the money for the ease of use and performance. Monster® iCarPlay Wireless Plus for iPod® And this is the newist version of what I have. Monster® iCarPlay Wireless 250 FM Transmitter with AutoScan for iPod® and iPhone We used to park 4 cars next to each other and crank up the stereos for tail gating parties. I don't know if yall do the same where your from in the UK, but we would crank up the tunes on one persons Ipod until it died, then the next then the next etc. But one of these would transmit clearly to to 4 cars away. Try it, you will like it!!!!! Absolutly no loss of sound quality at all. -Bill
  5. Search vw passat b5 service manual torrent eBook PDF Free Download You will find what you seek here for a manual anyway. -Bill
  6. Superbia, Bentley is the manufacturer of the greatest automotive manuals known to mankind and for any VAG group product I have ever owned the first thing I purchase after the car and insurance. Passat B5 is the platform what I can tell goggling the car that skoda shares quite a few things from including general style not to mention engine selection. I really don't think you understand how awful the mechanics here are. There are good ones out there, but even the independent shops charge what I consider to be an excessive rate per hour for labor and I have found only one half way decent mechanic in this town so far and he only deals with BMW and Mercedes, no VAG cars. If they break something, and they do so quite regularly, its your job to pay for the new part and for their labor to fix what they broke. Furthermore its YOUR job to provide them with the correct part. You take your car there, they make an attempt to diagnosis the car, tell you to go and get them this part and you go get it. They put it back on the car and put it all back together, realize they replaced a perfectly good part, then the process repeats. I am by profession a Aviation mechanic, before that I was a Auto diesel tech. I will give you a proper example as this just happened to me a hour or so ago. I took my family car into the ac service shop to add a little r134a to the truck as some has leaked out (all modern cars suffer from this problem using r134a). Well to fill to proper pressure its 30-35psi max (dependent upon temp etc) on the low side(weight of the charge not withstanding) When he filled it and walked off I glanced at his gauge and it read over 70 psi. This a very bad thing since i like my AC system and my car. So after bringing pressure back down to normal, guess what? Now I have a blockage in the system, no refrigerant flow and its 46C outside and I drive a black truck.... 2 water stops later I made it home to type this out. Luckily it is still under warranty for the hoses, compressor and the rest of the system, basically everything but gas levels are considered normal wear and tear in this country under its terms. The dealership will be fixing it under warranty now, but had it been out of warranty I would have been looking at around 1400 usd to repair it. Here is a link to a fairly good AC manual if your curious and want to learn more. It covers all the basics quite thoroughly. Troubleshooting with Gauges FAQ Thank you for the help auroan and superbia for pointing me to the manuals! -Bill
  7. So I have a quick question for yall: How far will a bentley passat B5 manual get me for working on this car? If you have a better source of info on it, please let me know as I do all my own wrenching. Especially here in the UAE since I don't trust ANY mechanics here to do anything but kill the car or screw it up royally. There is a dealer with a good rep though here, BUT its over 3 hr drive with traffic for me to get to them. So any good advice for the do it your selfers here? Better yet any good torrent links for a proper skoda service manual? Or am I stuck piecing together Audi and VW tech manuals for this car? Oh, and on a random note Hello all I am new to this car and forum. When the dealer check is complete tomorrow and I finish the paperwork I will be the proud owner of a blue Skoda superb 2005 model with from what I can tell full options including fridge in trunk.....IE BAR CAR......(for the passengers obviously) -Bill
  8. I am soon to be the new owner of a Blue Skoda superb 2005 with the 2.8L gas engine. So I figured I would pop in and say hello. I noticed from googeling and finding this place that there are several members also in the UAE, so hopefully they can point me to the good places to go for stuff. -Bill
