My mini 0801 has rejected/failed to continue working with its micro SD card so that it starts up and records but stops recording after a few seconds. It's the second card. I've used Transcend and Samsung, class 6 and 10 to no avail. Can't trust it so back to Amazon. I've had it longer than 30 days but after I mentioned the Sale of Goods act twice in my chat with their rep he caved in and refunded my money. Pity since I have to search again for something and this thread is 21 pages long!

If you're buying a card for the mini 0801, can recommend this one. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B009HPFV3U/ref=oh_details_o00_s01_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 A class 10 Transcend would only record for 3 or 4 minutes before stopping. No problems with a class 6 Samsung.

EGR Problem - Safe to Drive in Limp Mode?
FriendlyFire replied to brianq131's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
Give the garage a ring and see what they say. Also, you have breakdown assistance with your warranty, Skoda can come out and advise/tow you in. As for safe, remember it will drive like a slug uphill on the motorway which may not be safe in itself. -

FARB bushes - recommendations please.
FriendlyFire replied to FatblokeVRS's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
I understand one should take a measurement from wheel hub to the wing arch before starting then you can use jack to raise the hub to the correct height whilst the cars is still up in the air? -
There are two reinforced areas for jacking on the sills. Open the doors and there are two triangular arrows on the sills inside the doors indicating the spots. I usually put the jack stands under the rear wishbone bush at the front of the car. These are the circular aluminium bush housings under the car, behind the front wheel about a foot away from the sill. If you jack high enough at the back wheel it will raise the front wheel too. As for all this talk of hockey pucks - I've never used nor needed one with a Costco floor jack so long as I use the approved spot. Sorry to hear about your damage, I hope it won't be too dear to fix.

Replacing Stream MP3 With Kenwood DNX520VBT
FriendlyFire replied to BrianW1978's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
That grill is exactly where the OEM microphone goes. Just pull the unit out (it clips at the back edge and hinges at the front end). -
Could you share the procedure? I would be interested, or even the links. It would be useful for others.

Under tray (not engine)
FriendlyFire replied to nicowalker1's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
Try this website for part numbers. http://www.partsbase.org/skoda/octavia-oct-eu-2012-82510-underbody-trim-noise-insulation-heat-shield/ As the link suggests it's about protection, insulation and heat shielding. I recently ripped a piece off by driving through standing water at speed. It was quite inexpensive to replace. Hth -
Vcds for checking alarm problem
FriendlyFire replied to Dave364's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
Have a look at amazon.co.UK for a fault code reader. Must be for Volkswagens. You will pay something between 25 and 50 quid. If the car has logged a fault you will be able to see what it is and reset it. http://www.amazon.co.uk/SuperScan-VS450-OBDII-Scantool-Reader/dp/B001A33HAG/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1397928963&sr=8-3&keywords=Volkswagen+fault+code+readers Your alarm has a battery which needs replacing at six year intervals. It is behind the front drivers wheel inside the wing. They cost £117 from skodaparts.com. As the battery dies they cause problems. -
Hi, Try this thread. There are a few links in the first post to how to replace a turbo. http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=179589 I have had the same code and I am not looking forward to the inevitable. As a last resort I have just used a product called Revive turbo cleaner. Basically spray some fluid into the air intake and the drive the car like you borrowed off your brother who stole it. I bought it here. http://www.getme-tools.co.uk/shop/index.php/ I can't say it's a complete cured yet but it certainly feels like it helped.

Wiring for the interior lightning
FriendlyFire replied to jaegarmaisteri's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
The lens pulls off. Use the front edge since it hinges at the back edge. Two screws are exposed then the fitting pulls out. There are three wires. 12 volt live, earth, and a control wire to switch the courtesy lights on. The fitting isn't wired as such. Slim copper metal strips connect switch to the connectors and bulbs. You could piggy back on the live wire or solder to the copper strips. Others have soldered to the correct strip to get a trigger for internal foot well lights that come on when the door I'd opened or dim/light when the engine is switched on or off. I currently have my lights out since I want to put a dedicated 5 volt supply for a USB lead to a dash can. I also bought a spare wireless controller for the garage door. I will take 12 volts from the fuse box up the a pillar. There is plenty of space for a discreet switch in the molding for the alarm. Incidently, that has no fixing screws and just clips to the headlining. Hth -
Octavia 1.9 L&K Estate - High Mileage
FriendlyFire replied to mcpop72's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
Even if you give a car free to a family member they blame you when it goes wrong. If this car goes wrong and you paid too much your close family member won't take it back and you will feel aggrieved. From experience, I would be loath to sell to, or buy from someone in my family. -
Diagrams and instructions here. http://workshop-manuals.com/skoda/octavia-mk2/body/body_work/bumper/rear_bumper/ You will need to remove the inner side panels to get to 2 bolts either side. On the left they hold the CD changer in place. After that it's all small screws around the edges. Don't miss the one at the very tip of the bumper where it meets the wheel arch. It's hard to see under the mud and is accessible from the wheel arch. Skoda use a little silicone on the sides so you will need a little force. Hth

Under the steering wheel and to the right. About a foot away from the catch to open the bonnet. It's purple in colour.

Replace alarm battery/siren located in wheel arch? It's due at six years old. -
A bad 1.9Tdi experience
FriendlyFire replied to richardsfavorit's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
Sorry to hear of your bad experience. It seems to me that if your experience with the 1.9 was common it would have been well documented on this forum by now since all owner forums attract those looking for assistance with faults. In fairness, the engine does suffer from turbo and egr issues but that's common on many marques. In terms of galactic mileages and lots of work to get there, if someone is prepared to keep a car to big mileages they ain't prepared to spend big money on repairs. Commiserations again. -
These units are sold under several brand names. I have one and I paid £100 for it from amazon. I later saw it for just £50 on the same site. So no it isn't worth 250. It does read codes and resets them and it is VAG specific. I kind of resets the service interval but whilst you can read the current days and mileage since service and to the next, to be frank it never really worked for variable services. After a few months the service light would come on. I wouldn't buy it again for a ton but it is worth the fifty since the first time you use it you get the value. In terms of doing what VAGCOM does, set I options etc, it doesn't. Hope this helps.

Fuel filter 1.6 TDI CR
FriendlyFire replied to skaterboy's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
Try eurocarparts.com They give 25% discount for members with BRISK25 as the code. Any if the biug names will do but diesel fuel filters are very dear compared with oil filters and they are very similar. -
key just turning in door
FriendlyFire replied to geo855's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
1u is the mark I Octavia also know as tour after 2004 when it was sold mainly to taxi drivers. The 1z is the mark II sold from 2004 to 2013. (Basically, the 1z code is part of the VIN number and denotes: 1 skoda, z Octavia mkII) Have a search here and on the internet for changing door locks on Skoda's and Volkswagen to see how they fit, they are mostly the same. -

Been put in an unusual situation...
FriendlyFire replied to pkskodatdi's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
BXE engines were fitted to Skoda's. Mine is a 57 2008. The engine code for your car is printed on a sticker fixed to the inside cover of the service book and a duplicate under the carpet in the boot next to the spare wheel.
