Thanks to all those who contributed to this excellent thread. I've just changed my resistor (Skoda Fabia 2005). I would suggest that you remove the glove compartment – it really is easy to do this. The resistor is in a very awkward place and you need as much space as possible. I found the trickiest part was re-fitting the new resistor. It’s in a housing and very fiddly to get back in. After a lot of time fiddling about I found that refitting the wiring connector before putting the resistor back in to be the best option. Don’t give up – this job is very ‘doable’ albeit frustrating at times due to the location of the resistor/housing/connector!

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone knew of a good garage for servicing. I purchased my 05 Fabia 1.9TDI from Saltdean Garage on the South Coast. The sales dept were ok but the service dept are abysmal - very badly run and pricey - £225 for a 20k service!! Does anyone know of a reasonably priced garage on the South Coast (Brighton to Hastings) or up to the Southern M25 Corridor who I can take my car to and still retain my warranty? Thanks! H

Hi All I purchased an '05 Fabia 1.9 Tdi recently and love it to bits. One thing that is annoying me is the jerkiness between 2-3k revs. What I mean is the throttle is overly sensitive in this rev range and even the slightest of touches (or lay-offs) will have the car lurching. Is this a common problem? Should I be thinking about taking it back to the dealers? I guess its the mapping, can anything be done? Thanks in advance for any replies

Thanks for the replies guys. I've played around with all the settings -especially the height adjustment mechanism but am still having probs  The car goes in for a service Friday so I'll ask at the garage if there's anything that can be done. I think the sunroof is the main culprit - i.e. the mechanics lower the head room available :( Thanks again all who repied!

Hi all, Just purchased an 03 Elegance 1.9 Tdi and what a great car it is too . Just one minor problem, even with the seat adjusted right down, because of the sunroof, head room is a bit of an issue (I'm 6' 2"). I'm considering having the interior roof played with i.e. some of the padding taken out. Ideally I would like this done professionally, so could anyone recommend someone who could tackle this? I live on the south coast but am willing to travel a fair distance. Any advice gratefully received.... H

Thank you all for the responses . It looks like drive the deal may be getting my business. To be honest I have narrowed my choice of new car down to the Fabia or a Seat Ibiza. I test drove the Fabia the other day and loved it, that 1.9 engine is just out of this world! There were a few niggles however, namely: The heater/air con seemed to have a mind of its own. The front windscreen glass seemed to give a bluring/magnifying effect- most strange. I kept catching my left shoe on the centre consol cowling when lifting my foot off the clutch. Before I commit myself are there any other issues/niggles with the car I should be aware of? My remit for a car is longevity and economy - so something that won't rust and will go on for ever (not asking much eh! ). Have there been any issues with rust at all. Very grateful for any guidance

Hi all, This is my first post!! Looks like a great site! I am seriously considering buying a new Fabia 1.9 TDi PD Elegance and would really appreciate it if anyone could suggest where the cheapest place to buy one would be (car supermarket?). The cheapest I can find thus far is
