  1. Hi Thought I keep this topic up-to-date: Waited till the fuel tank was showing just over half full and topped up - no problem - will keep an eye on things from now on - local Skoda garage (independent) said they had not heard of this problem before. Thanks for all the replies. Darfash
  2. Hi I'm no mechanic and I'm also disabled so can't crawl underneath to check anything like that, I still don't understand why the fuel gauge would read less after attempting to fill the car. Still think it is the best car I've ever had.
  3. Thanks for the prompt reply. That sounds reasonable but why would the fuel tank show less than what was in the tank before attempting to fill in up? In the recent pass (only had it 3 months) when filling up from a quarter full the whole tank was filled in one go and I didn't go pass the first click of the pump today.
  4. Hi all, wonder if anyone has thoughts on this problem: Yesterday we topped up our Yeti (diesel 4x4 dsg) to make a journey just short of 100 miles return trip. Today we wanted to get a real mpg reading my topping up again, but it would only take 4.4 litres. So we drove another 10 miles to another garage to see if we could top up again. When I got out of the car the diesel had leaked out from the fuel cap all down the car and we only managed to get another £1 of fuel in the tank. Before we filled up the first time the fuel guage was reading 2 bars down from full, but after the first attempt to fill up it was reading only three quarters full and is now only showing that is what is in the tank. Your thoughts would be appreciated, car is booked into garage next week. Is this a costly repair? Thanks in advance Darfash
  5. Hi everyone! Took delivery of our 2012 Yeti DSG 4x4 today. What are your opinions on running with AT tyres? We do get snowed in from time to time, and I am thinking they might be better than winter tyres. But, I would like to hear what you have to say on the topic, as we are entering the time when we get snow and ice, and I need to try and sort it out soon. Thanks for any replies in advance.
  6. Hi everyone Our Fabia 1.9tdi 2001 has started to have a temperature guage problem. It's our main car and I am currently having to take my partner to hospital and back (100 mile round trip) everyday and for the next three weeks. In four years of ownership the temperature guage has sat dead centre and never varied. Today it started to go down and then back up to nearly dead centre again. It dropped when in 2nd and 3rd and went back to near centre when in 4th or 5th gear. Took it up to 75mph but would not get back to complete dead centre. No coolant has been used, it still is at the same mark it has always been. Any ideas on what it could be? And would you drive it everyday for the next three weeks? It is essential that she finishes her treatment. Our second car is an old 4x4 and will not do that sort of mileage - its only for getting us to the local shops in the deep snow we get here. Darfash
  7. Hi Our much loved 2001 1.9 tdi is starting to use oil for the first time in its life - its currently on 102,000 and has been regularly maintained and is well looked after. What is the most common cause of this on this particular model. Unfortunately it has to do another 3,000 miles in the next 5 weeks getting my better half to hospital for radiotherapy - so can't have it in the garage to sort it out, it has to be used every day until the radiotherapy is finished. Any thoughts on the subject would be gratefully appreciated. Darfash
  8. Hi everybody. When driving in snow should be the ASR been turned off or kept on. About to have winter tyres fitted on the front wheels, but have to get my better half to hospital for operation and need to know what to do. Thanks for any replies in advance.
  9. Hi everybody! What are they like in deep snow? I've been considering getting rid of my Fabia 1.9 TDi (will be a pity - bloody good car) and my Fourtrak which I use mostly in the winter - now this car is incredible in deep snow (8-12in) and the council never clears the road where we live in NE Scotland, we usually have to wait for a local farmer and his JCB to clear the road out then the Fourtrak comes into its own. What I really want to know is will the Yeti cope with this sort of snow, and would it require all terrain tyres on as well? Thanks in advance for any replies.
  10. Hi Recently had a puncture and was shocked to see bottom of spare wheel recess in boot had a lot of rust on it, before I get it sorted - are there any other areas which fabia 1s are prone to. Thanks for any replies.
  11. Hi, had the springs put on and now driven it for quite a few hundred miles and THEY WORK. This is a definite solution to the reoccuring problem. Will have ns caliper and handbrake renewed later in the year and should be OK from there on in. Thanks everybody for replying.
  12. No its not a daft question, I think changing the cable will be the only thing left to do, the garage checked the cable when it was last in it and tought it was fine, its beginnning to get to me now if I can't get it sorted the car is going to go and that will be a bloody shame as the rest of it feels and drives alike new.
  13. Did over 200 miles on new caliper without any problems, put handbrake on overnight and the next day the problem was back again. Been to garage and they are ordering springs and will put on in a few days. They did say they couldn't see any problems with the springs that are on but will fit new ones anyway. If this doesn't work anyone with any other suggestions, please!
  14. Hi Got car back with os caliper changed only, last caliper looked in a bit of a state, will drive for a few days without using handbrake then try a few days with handbrake, if it starts to bind again I will change the springs on caliper and see what happens then.
  15. Hi Garage has just got me the os caliper so its in tomorrow, will see what happens whenevet I get it back and post reply. Thanks
