  1. After 41/2 years of happy V6Tdi Edition 100 ownership - and membership of this forum - I am jumping ship to join the Mercedes clan with a CLS I bought today and expect to collect on Friday. I feel like a traitor because I've been very happy with the Skoda but I just love V6's so it came down to an XF or a Merc. I did consider an Octavia L&K and VRS as well as a newer Superb but I couldn't convince myself to give up the smooth grunt of a V6 diesel. The Skoda is going to a new home in Swansea tomorrow and I'll be telling the new owner about the forum. It only remains for me to say that I've found this forum very friendly and helpful with lots of very knowledgable people. Thanks to everyone that has helped out with advice when I've needed it. I wish you all the very best. Jonathan
  2. The second set of Eurocarpart sourced Pagids on the front of my V6 TDi Edition 100 have just started thumping indicating they've warped again. I had similar problems with the same brakes on my previous 2 Passat V6 TDi's which used the same brakes. I cured it on the last Passat - a 54 plate car - by fitting upgraded drilled discs and green stuff pads but that was about 6 years ago. Does anyone have any current recommendations for upgraded discs and pads? I'm tempted to go Brembo and green stuff but it seems there are a lot of different prices out there for them which makes me wonder if some are fakes. Suggestions on what to use and where to source most gratefully received.
  3. Thanks for that rtd. Out of interest, are the adjusters for halogen lights the same as those for Xenon HID?
  4. Are you sure it's an original disc? Copied discs usually have this problem
  5. The garage has just told me that the headlight adjusters on both xenons on my Edition 100 are broken and it failed the MOT as a result. I'd rather not fork our for new headlights if I can help it but I can't find any repair kits anywhere. Anybody know how to overcome this little problem? Thanks J
  6. I thought times in the motor trade were tough. Can my Superb be worth so little? For that kind of money I might as well keep it until it dies. Unfortunately, I've had it 5 years and I get bored easily. Given that these things seem to go on forever, at 56 it could be the last car I ever own.
  7. I've been toying with the idea of swapping my V6 Edition 100 for a Renault Laguna Coupe with a 235bhp V6 diesel. Kids have departed and I don't really need a 4 door saloon but I like V6 diesels as a daily driver. What has shocked my is the prices I've been offered for my super Superb. With 67k and fsh one dealer offered me £2600 against a £15k 23k miler Laguna and another £3.5k against a slightly older £12k 23k miler. Intersestingly there is an exact replica of my Superb on Autotrader but with 47k instead of 67k http://bit.ly/11TdEJb.
  8. What did it cost you if you don't mind saying
  9. I have the same auto box issues but not just in third, could be second too. Also, on first start off when cold it feels like the the gearbox hasn't 'engaged' and then it catches up with itself and off it goes. Seems to coincide with a relay somewhere down in the drivers footwell above the go pedal kicking it but that may just be my imagination.
  10. I drove a friends year old XJL Prem Lux 3.0 diesel back from London on Wednesday. If I was spending £30k, that's where I'd put my money. 275 bhp and 447 torx is enough despite the size of the car and the quality build and feel is fantastic. However, I just can't persuade myself the spend that kind of money on any car. There's way too much value out there for a lot less. Early current model xj's will be down to £20k within 12-18 months. I think I might be tempted then. Until then, I'm happy, even a little smug, driving my Edition 100 - it's gotta be the best value luxury car of its size out there.

I'm in Bridgend, work in Port Talbot. Superb 1 Edition 100 V6 TDi with T15 JSK. anyone going to the megameet in Gaydon in July?
  12. I wonder if you can get the grey edged mats that match the leather colour for an Edition 100 as per original fitment?
  13. Couldn't agree more with diesel v6. I've run 2 Passat V6 tdi's - 2000 150 estate the a 2004 163 and now an Edition 100 that I've had for 4 years. I absolutely love the V6 diesel and my biggest problem is what to replace it with. I can't understand VW/skoda's marketing policy at all. Why they offer the 3.6 petrol engines with 250 and 300 bhp in the Passat and Superb 2 but nothing bigger than 170 bhp and 4 cylinders in diesel I just can understand. I was driving back from France last night thinking about just this subject and my conclusion was that despite having run basically the same car for 13 years (apart from a 2 year dalliance with a 530i M Sport) and I should be bored to death with it the best thing I can do is buy a 1 owner sub 30k late model and run that. There's a couple on Autotrader now for £7k ish which compared to the £20k I'd have to pay for a 3.0d XF is nothing short of a bargain. Problem is my Edition 100 has only done 61k
  14. Same thing happened to mine - over enthusiastic hand washer I think. Got one from the dealer in the end - cost was horrendous, £9 if I racall. I don't think you can get them anywehre else on account of the fact that they are a limited edition.
  15. Eurocarparts have a sale on right now. 20% off batteries using ALL20 code. Just got a Bosch S4 72ah for £69 delivered with a 4 year warranty.
  16. The battery ran low on the Superb a couple of days ago and I flattened the battery trying to start it. Got a jump, it started, took it for a run and it seems fine now but since it happened, when I plip the remote twice to unlock drivers and pasenger's doors, only the drivers door unlocks. The second press does nothing. If I unlock the door using the key in the door with 2 turns, all doors unlock but when I open a passenger door it sets off the alarm. If I unlock with the remote and then unlock the passenger doors using the door switch, it's fine. Any ideas what could have happened? Thanks
  17. Apart from a 2 or 3 year dalliance with a BMW 530 M Sport I've run a Passat V6 TDi (x2) and Skoda Superb 2.5 V6 TDi since 2000. The Skoda I have now is an Edition 100 and is better specified than anything I've ever had and I really enjoy it. I thought about changing it for a Jaguar earlier this year but ended up buying a Boxster for fun instead. That was partly because the XF & XJ I tried we're much the same as the Skoda just newer and would depreciate faster. The Boxster belonged to a friend of a friend, had good provenance and offered a very different motoring experience so I thought 'why not'? With only 53k I'm in no hurry to get a replacement for the Superb but I wondered what other members would choose if they were replacing now? I'm a big fan of V6 diesels so the new Superb doesn't really appeal. I'm not a fan of the saloon design anyway and don't need an estate. The XF is nice but didn't feel really special and I was disappointed with the performance of the 2.7 which is what I can afford. So, if you were to change your Superb V6 TDi, what would you choose and why?
  18. After a few weeks of looking I've managed to find my DX code but the unit is now in 'Safe' mode and I can't select the numbers. Does anyone know how I get it out of safe mode without a trip to the dealer and parting with mucho deniro?
  19. I want to get my automatic gearbox checked but I'm not sure where to take it. There might not be anything wrong with it - it shifts smoothly, kicks down ok but at low speeds there isn't enough 'direct drive' for my liking. I spoke to the local dealer and they've quoted me £54 for a diagnostic only, which seems a bit heavy. The senior engineer said it could be a problem with the gearbox ecu under the drivers floor but I'm not convinced. I had the oil and filter changed about 15k miles ago (car has 55k up) and I'm wondering if the indie I used put the correct fluid in. Dealer wants £180 for oil and filter change. What I really want is someone knowledable who'll do a diagnostic for a reasonable price and drive the car then give me an honest opinion. Does anyone know such a firm in South Wales that they can recommend? Can travel for the right service if necessary. There seems to be a lot of so called specialists out there and I'm a bit worried that something this specialised is dealt with properly by someone with the right knowledge. Thanks J
  20. My son borrowed my car a few days ago, left the lights on and the battery went flat. Got it all sorted but I've searched everywhere and can't find the radio/sat nav code. Apart from going to the dealer, does anyone know how I can get it? Thanks Jonathan
  21. Just seen Alan16ac post below which seems to cover it thanks
  22. I'm sure I used to get a warning buzzer if I got out of the car and the driving lights were left on but I'm not getting it now. Am I mistaken and if the buzzer should be working, anyone got ideas why it isn't? There's no plunger switch on the door anymore. In the olden days, it used to be that. Thanks Jonathan
  23. Hi Jimbof. I have the same problem buut it's intermittent. I've done all the same tests as you, even run a water in the plenum to make sure it runs out (it does) and can't figure it out. However, I have figured out what makes it intermittent. Opening and closing the bonnet!! I know, it doesn't make sense to me either. The only thing I can think of is that it's something to do with the seal that runs around the top of the wing joint and plenum front. Right now, I don't have a problem even after all the rain last week but I'm afraid to open the bonnet in case it returns. I hope this info will help someone detect a cure - I'm gonna have to lift the 'hood' at some point.
