  1. Thanks for all the advice. I found the timing was out, so got that altered as part of getting the cambelt replaced as it was due in the next 6 months. This has produced some good results, it's not as smokey and seems to be nice and quiet bar on of the injectors! Next step is to replace the injector on Cylinder 4 as it looks out compared to all the others and I'm still getting smoke under acceleration although not as bad as before the timing was adjusted. Any one any advice on how to remove and re-fit an SDi injector. All the bits I read its a special tool to remove but nothing on how to replace. Have attached a new timing reading and also injector readout.
  2. OK, I'm very stuck with all this now. I have managed to get a couple of readings of Vag-Com and they do not look good to me at all, I could really do with some advice! I have attached a couple of images from the readings I thought relevant having read around. Any help, advice or things to try much appreciated!
  3. Hi all, Back in the Fabia fold with another SDi - Saloon Any how, I have a small issue with it, along with a few other's but this is one that has me slightly stumped. Driving along the M-Way at night, I can see the car is pouring out a lot of smoke. A bit of testing and it seems like something gets stuck and keeps fuelling the engine, but the revs drop. A few things I noticed. - Driving along accelerate hard, no smoke then completely let of the accelerator I get lots of smoke, accelerate again and it will clear up - Accelerate hard from standing - smoke - Also when driving along sometimes i get a small blip in power, like something has opened up. MPG seems fine, and there is no lack in power.... for an SDi On start-up it starts instantly but seems a bit "knockey" - I can't remember if this is a characteristic of the SDi or not I haven't read the codes as yet, hopefully will get round to this tomorrow so results to follow! Bit of a side note, I just purchased the car... cheap and it was owned by an older gent who in the last few years had only covered 3k. It was serviced with a fuel filter back in September. Any help appreciated
  4. Excellent, thanks for the help. I take it that the oil change on the 2.0 TDi PD is straight forward? I just require a 32mm socket for the oil filter and a 19mm socket for the sump?
  5. Hi all, I have just purchased this Octavia: http://www.slmotorcars.co.uk/detail_pdf.php?id=436048 I will be collecting her next Saturday and the first thing I want to do is a full oil change and filter service. I have been reading around about all the different specs and just want to confirm should I be using VW507.00 or VW506.01 spec oil? I was going to purchase some TRIPLE QX Engine Oil (5w30 Fully Synthetic (Low Saps C3)) Engine Oil from Euro car parts and get in with the money off and free oil filter but don't fancy getting it wrong. Would be grateful if some on could point me in the right direction to begin with
  6. Thanks Triggerfish. Found the guide in your video here: http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?2269482 Will be having a go at this on Sunday
  7. Nice one thanks. This starter motor kinda sticks after starting the car and makes a weeee noise. Would cleaning it help? Never done anything with a starter motor before!
  8. Needing to change the starter motor on the OH 1.4 16V Fabia as it sticks for a while after starting the car. I have had a quick look around but cant really find any info on changing it. Is it a easy enough job to do at home? Any hits, tips tricks etc welcome!
  9. Ok, After a bit of looking around i have found that you can buy a little kit that should help remove the door. I have gone for a Sealey - door hinge & handle removal kit - VS805.
  10. Hey, I need to remove my front passenger door and replace it. I have had a quick look but can't seem to get my star headed bit in the gap. Has any one any tips or could point me in the right direction to a tool that i need to get the door off? Any help appreciated! Thanks
  11. I had this problem with my SDi, Have you checked the whole engine loom? Mine had a problem where the wire had been frayed away inside the plastic cover. The bit in question was to the right on the engine block. It was a black wire that had frayed all the way through.
  12. Sorry to jump on this thread, but SWMBO fabia 1.4 16v has a fault like this but the car cuts out when the red oil light comes on and beeps. Its happened twice in the last 6mths, leaves no fault code and is always full on the dipstick marker. Is yours cutting out or just flashing at you at letting you drive on?
  13. Yeah they were off a leon. There the tele dial style ones. Will drop them down to 195/50/15's i think! Thanks for the advice!
  14. Managed to pick up some cheap seat dial style alloys but they came with 195 65 15 tyres on and they rub slightly on the rear arch inside. Is it possible to drop the size down to 195 50 15? Any help appreciated! Thanks
  15. I'd be interested to know where this is? Also how do you run it with bio diesel and why do you change the filter so often?
  16. To put a close to this thread the fault lied in the wiring loom in the engine bay. Hats off to fordfan for his correct diagnostic! After getting a replacement speed sensor, undoing all the loom and then getting an auto electrician diagnosing a faulty speedo the fault lied with the engine loom. I got a replacement loom and it cured the problem. I decided to strip the engine loom down again and took off a small area covered by the original loom tape that i decided to overlook when i first took off the plastic casing. Under this what looked to be dirt had rubbed its way through the wiring for the earth connection of the speed sensor. This was positioned in the small clamp at the right hand side of the engine.
  17. Ok, This has now been weeded out to be a problem with the speedo unit its self. My current unit # is 6Y2 919 860 A At the moment there are a few on ebay but none with that number. Am i able to fit any speedo out of a 1.9 SDi/TDi or do i have to be careful as to what i fit? :wonder: I have found units out of diesels with numbers 6Y0 920 972 S 6YO 920 970 D 6Y2 919 880 A <---- Thinking this is my best bet :| Again any advice/help appreciated!
  18. Ok, So for i have run right from where the loom enters the car to the ECU. From the ECU round to the sensor. Still no joy but on the plus side the original error has not come back!
  19. Ok, Striped it all out down there, Dreged out all the gunk and checked the wiring loom. All seems ok but gave it a good wipe down and an extra covering of electrical tape. giandougl thanks for the suggestion. Its the route i will take eventually if it can be fixed by myself or with the help of the forum.
  20. Ok, Is this the plastic bit under the wiper arms?
  21. My car dosen't have ABS so would it still have a sensor at the wheel?
  22. Ok, Got my new speed sensor or as skoda call it distance sensor. Part code S6Q0919149A - £47.66 + VAT Any how, Fitted the new sensor and STILL not getting any speed readings! Arrrr! I have checked there is some form of power at the speed sensor connection and there is. I have checked that there is power at the speedo its self and i get a reading when its unplugged. Also checked for a signal at the stereo and i get one when the speedo is disconnected. When i reconnect both plugs at the back of the speedo i get no reading at the stereo connection and the speedo still reads 0mph! I'm really stuck now? Do i have a dodgy speedo? The needle is not stuck because i can make it sweep via VCDS? Really need some help now, its annoying not having a speedo - I know the SDi isn't fast but still :'(
