  1. Just a quick note to say thanks for all the advice memebers have offered me since I have owned my VRS but time for a change so now got a Vectra VXR. If the fuel gets mental I shall be getting a VRS Diesel so who knows.. I may be back. Thanks guys
  2. I have a problem with my rear brakes in that they make an awful noise when reversing and sometimes whilst going forwards. I have stopped using my hand brake which seems to have assisted a bit and now just leave it in gear. It was almost a year ago that the car failed for binding brakes and the disks, pads and calipers were replaced. It has since been back to the garage as the noise occured a few months ago. The brakes were stripped and cleaned and now the issue has returned again. Any advice or suggestions to resolve this once and for all please?
  3. I'm interested to know what peoples thoughts are on owning an Octavia VRS? Has it been reliable? Has it cost alot of money to keep going or has it cost nothing other than 'consumables' ? Which looks best the original or the MII? I have owned my car since July 2009 and so far I have had the following issues: Ceased rear calipers which caused an MOT failure. All in all about £350 to put right. Poor running. Came down to a cracked hose. £150 to put right. Poor running again, Replaced MAF. £150 to put right. Indicator fault. Replaced the relay. £25 to put right. Add to this servicing, tyres and brake disks I have spent a fair bit of money on it but despite that I still like the car and it makes me smile when its running right. It going back in on Wednesday due to an oil problem so more expense to come. Mechanic said the Skoda's in his experience are the most reliable in the VAG group as well so I'm glad I bought something thats cheap to run
  4. OK thanks everyone for all your help, car booked in for Wednesday....
  5. Cheers guys can I drive the car to the garage? Does it cause damage to the engine?
  6. Greetings all, not posted for a while, Anyway, my Octavia VRS has developed yet another problem. It all started two weeks ago, started the car and went on my journey and the engine management light came on. Booked in to the garage and they said it was cambelt related. It was either slipping or the sensor was faulty so they cleared the error and said to book it in again the week after as they were busy. I booked it in again and they confirmed it was the cam position sensor and replaced it. Engine Management light not come back on since but on the day I collected it the oil light briefly flashed so I checked the level as soon as I got home. It was a little low so topped her up. All good until today when the light flashed again and a buzzer sounded, pulled over checked oil and it was still within the markers. This then cleared so I continued my short journey and it sounded again and again. My question is to the more mechanically minded people is what is wrong? I dare not start the engine anymore and need it looking at ASAP but will it be ok to drive or best to get it recovered? Is this at all related to the cam sensor or purely a coincidence? As much as I love the car its started to become a real money pit now..... Any advice please?
  7. The indicators on my Octy have gone bonkers. Some times they flash at a normal rate but most of the time they flash really fast as though a bulb has blown but this is occurring on both sides. Then they flash normal and then really fast again.... If I put the hazards on they flash normal. Has this happened to anyone before? Does it sound like a new indicator relay is required?? Cheers Briskodians
  8. Seen this on the bay: >http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/K-N-57i-Induction-Kit-Skoda-Octavia-VRs-00-04-57-0430_W0QQitemZ300332100520QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item45ed302ba8 Anybody got this particular kit fitted to their Octy? Any comments or suggestions for other makes? Cheers
  9. Well the car has been in to garage and it has had a service, cracked hose repaired which was making the car run lumpy and both rear pads, shoes and calipers replaced as they had locked on and would not release. All this set me back a mere £504. I cant afford to eat now but should now fly through the retest. Did feel a lot better to drive, maybe because the rear brakes weren't locked on That's another month of not been able to afford a remap
  10. Well my Octy failed the MOT on a slight nearside front disc judder and a rear offside wheel bind. Very annoying as lot long ago I spent £200 getting new discs and pads at the front and having the rears cleaned up. So how do you unbind a rear wheel and is why would a brake disk judder after 4 months?
  11. I've heard bad things about these cheap spoilers off ebay in that they dont fit very well and are a bit... well.... cheap!
  12. I have a problem with my horn. If I press just one side of the steering wheel nothing happens, I need to press both sides for it to sound. This isn't normal is it? The car needs to go for its MOT soon so would this fail? The horn does sound... if you know how to do it
  13. Water got into the magazine from boot maybe? Mine constantly plays up and says "mechanic" on the Head Unit.... Think they both need replacing by sounds of it.
  14. Cheers guys, so if the car runs just as it did before then it needs replacing? I thought it was the other way round and if it ran ok then it meant to MAF was faulty and needed replacing?
  15. The Octavia is running a little poor on tickover and the Traction Control light comes on every now and again which I believe could be MAF. I would like to disconnect it to see if it sorts the problem. My question is, where is the MAF? and if its disconnected what effect does it have? I did try searching this subject but all search returns me is:
  16. Anyone know which bulbs need to be used for the rear tail lights? They are so bright you can't tell the difference when the the fogs are put on. Cheers
  17. Does anyone have a picture of what a Octavia looks like in black with a WRC spoiler?
  18. Number 73 could be getting a new owner soon and if I could afford it then it would be me Skoda : OCTAVIA VRS WRC LIMITED EDITION NO.73/100
  19. Does anyone know which CD's are read by the multi-changer? I have tried Sony and Philips but when I make an audio CD and put it in it just comes up with "surface" on the display. I remember a similar problem when I had my 206 in that it would only play Verbatim CD's Cheers
  20. Fairly straightforward, took a wheel off one at a time and sanded them down to remove the laquer and silver finish. Primed, sanded again with fine paper and primed again before 3 coats of anthracite and 2 coats of laquer. Didn't need to take tyres off just used plenty of masking tape!
  21. Cheers guys... yep I did them myself and as it happens Brimma you were my inspiration Babs, my wheels were always dirty anyway so at least its now disguised
  22. Finally completed the anthracite alloy project at long last. Pic attached
