  1. Guys, thanks for the feedback. I think you may be right regarding the (poor) surface preparation. I wiped down the two surfaces to be joined with acetone but gaining access to the plastic was challenging. As it was only about 40mm of the triangular tip of the wheel arch trim which was sticking out and needing stuck down. I will try again with the Toolstation PU adhesive. Any tips/recommendations on surface prep much appreciated. Thanks John
  2. Hi, looking for some recommendations on the best adhesive to use to stick down a couple of areas of the black wheel arch trim. Most annoying bit is the rear-most corner where it meets the rear bumper. It has a tendancy to stick out a bit. So far I have tried... 3M very sticky self adhesive pad (no success), hot glue gun (no success) and finally Tiger Seal PU adhesive. Tiger seal lasted a couple of months before the bond gave up. In every case I have prepped the surfaces with acetone. Any recommendations, both on products and method of application. Thanks in advance.
  3. Thanks for all the advice. The car turned out to be not for us. Bodywork was good but it was fairly rusty underneath and the egr pump had to be replaced, (the light came on during the test drive). Fortunately, we found another which turned out to be immaculate and with 75,000 miles and a Skoda FSH. So we are now owners of a Scout. Looking to get winter tyres for it now (probably on 16" steel wheels).
  4. We are viewing the car next week and all being well we hope to be the owners of an Octavia Scout...
  5. Many thanks for this advice. The car is a 2011, 1 owner with 85,000 miles.
  6. Apologies if this has been done before... we are going to view a 2011 Octavia Scout (2 litre, diesel, 140bhp) and was wondering if anyone has a checklist of items to check when looking at the car? On the face of it the car looks good but want to be better informed when viewing it in case we have to factor in any futher costs for the immediate future. Any help greatly appreciated...
  7. Yes we have but they didn't address many of my main concerns/questions, and they seem to be moving at a snail's pace.
  8. To be honest, i doubt i will get any such information from Skoda UK hence my questions here. Having both the 1.6 and 2.0 models i'd like to get some idea of what is going on.
  9. Still a number of questions remain unanswered for me - any updates appreciated - no speculation please! 1.What is the fix to be made to the 1.6 diesel? 2.What is the fix to be made to the 2.0 diesel? 3.Do affected Skoda UK owners get any compensation for the vehicle not meeting the original specification? 4.Do affected Skoda UK owners get the option of a Skoda buy back? 5.What other other actions can owners takea against Skoda if not satisfied post fix, apart from switching brands?
  10. Will be interesting to find out what any compensation will be. If the impact of any modifications are negligible then presumably any compensation will be negligible. I am just adding more speculation...
  11. Out of interest, does anyone know how much having a dyno test to determine bhp and torque would be pre and post "fix"?
  12. I am following this thread with the hope that someone will have some official news as to what the fixes will be and what the actual effect on car performance will be. So far after 7 pages it is mostly just pure speculation. Lets hope Skoda will fill this information vacuum soon - though I won't hold my breath.
  13. Being a bit of an ignoramus in the subject... is there such a thing as an independently accredited test centre which can test the cars bhp, mpg and torque? If so I may be tempted to have this tested and documented on our cars before any recall fixes are performed. By doing so I am establishing benchmark which to compare the performance after "fix" done to prove (or not as the case may be!) the car has changed for the worse. It is possibly overkill but until VAG confirm what the fix will be I am thinking what will hold up best legally.
