  2. Hi folks Some of you will think this is a silly Question but never mind here goes. Is their a safe way to electric weld on cars with a on board ecu On trucks it is ok to weld provided you disconnect battery and put your earth clamp close to your welding area. Any body no what the official method is This problem has appeared because the front exhaust down pipe bracket has broken off both the pipe and bracket look to be good metal, I do not want to buy new down pipe, but do not want to put my ecu at risk either I would be grateful for any information and thanks for any help offered Thanks Skodaman 61

  4. Hi folks 2004 Octavia 1900 TDI 90 As a truck fitter for way to long, my question sounds stupid to me. How ever here go's car stationary put your foot on the foot brake (very hard) with engine running and pedal goes'very near to the floor To me that seem's wrong. It has discs on the front with new discs and pads fitted the rear brakes are drum with new shoes and everything nice and free I have tried bleeding the brakes no air comes out any ware. to me the brake pedal travelling so far is wrong.I should add that the brakes stop perfect and are way over what's required for mot on roller test. I have tried a few other Skodas and they all seem the same, I have even been on main dealer used cars and they are not much different than my own car. Any one able to give me any information on this one would be very much appreciated I would also like to thank any one in advance for any information provided Thanks again Skodaman 61
  5. Hi folks Does anyone know if the plastic cover thats fitted under the eng is the same on any of the other Vw range, our local garage did not put back after service I was hoping this would give me more chance of finding a used one rather than just looking for a Skoda one thanks in advance of any help offered Skodaman 61
  6. Hi folks I run 2004 diesel 90 TDI Octavia its done about 105000 miles it seems to be leaking oil around the breather pipes any one know if there are any valves or anything to do with the engine breathing system that needs cleaning out or changing the engine has not used oil any oil in 4000 miles so i do not think. there is much wrong with it I think there is probably oil in the inter-cooler as well as the inter-cooler pipes are oily. Also any one know ware the lights on buzzer is and how does it operate. Thanks in advance for any tips that may be provided. Skoda man 61

  8. Hi folks

  9. thanks folks for your replies My daughter has Octavia 110 54 TDI and has had the dreaded sticky valve syndrome and with a £600 bill for a turbo i am a bit reluctant to drive my own at to lower revs in case mine goes the same way I suppose I will have to find a happy medium between keeping my engine hot and hope to get a better economy Thanks Skodaman 61
  10. Hi folks Before i got my Octavia i often heard people say they were getting 50 miles to the gallon,I wonder if this information was got from the on board computer or from tank fill to tank fill Does any one have any reliable information as to what is the norm for this engine In my own personal car mixed driving when driven hard or with a good wind behind and really driving for economy the best i have had in six months running is 44miles to the gallon full tank to full tank I would be pleased to here any information particular tank to tank records with normal mixed driving thanks for any info given skodaman 61
  11. Hi folks I would like to thank all who are helping me to solve the above problem thanks from skodaman61 Has any one had dealings with insurance companies as regards above problem i spoke to turbo tech about my turbo fault they say it is probably caused by the car doing short hops like the school run etc and the engine is not warming up enough to burn the sticky waste away witch is what some of the members are saying and i have to say i probably think along those lines myself So i feel this could be a turbo design fault when Vw Skoda in my case as when they sell cars they do not say do not by our diesel range if you are only going to do a lot of small hops because we would expect the turbo vanes to clog up. In fact just the opposite they are advertised as family and thats what many families have to do So i feel i should have a good claim against the RAC Does any one agree with me or have very different views i would be very interested to here what other members have to say on the matter. Thanks Skodaman61
  12. Hi folks The car i am going to talk about is my daughters and i do not no exactly what happened but here goes the car is 53 reg 1.9 Octavia diesel 96000 miles110 DT redi She tells me they were driving along and she heard hissing noise when is under load very little power I was not able to check car myself so sent her to my local Skoda garage who informed my turbo hose had blown off causing engine run in low power mode. That sounded reasonable so they said it needed a new pipe as it had gone slightly soft so they put a hose on tried it still no power so they said turbo is faulty so they removed it and found the boost valve stuck in the boost position. I am a diesel fitter by trade and most of my time has been with truck engines So i have no experience with VW engines How ever i have been and inspected the turbo and it looks to be in very good condition not passing oil or excessive play in rotter shaft ,the only fault i could see is that the boost valve will not return from the boost position correctly I am wondering if the boost valve caused the hose to blow of or could there be another reason ,I have heard people talking about breather hoses causing this problem As far as the turbo is concerned it is an insurance claim with the RAC scheme and they want the turbo to be sent to turbotechnics for there report on the the turbo before they will pay out £1000 fitted As you see i am not convinced a new or rebuilt turbo is not the whole story experience tells me there is more to to it yet I am sorry that i have had to bore you with along essay but thats the only way i feel anyone can have fair chance to help me So any information from any body who has had similar problems and how they solved it would be very useful and I would be extremely great full Thanks Skodaman61
