  1. There is a comprehensive article on DSG here Direct-Shift Gearbox - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia It says that upshifts take 8ms which is the time the wheels are unpowered
  2. Still can't get it to work. Pressing the thumbwheel does reset the trip 1/2 and allows you to navigate through the menus. But it does not do anything to the Speed warning which is stuck at "---".
  3. the above instructions do not work for me! Will try doing it on the move on way home
  4. Thanks for all the replies. I don't have any buttons on the stalk only the ones on the steering wheel. Reading the manual again it seems that I have to be driving to be able to set it!
  5. How do you set the Speed Warning Speed? I have Maxidot and the Steering Wheel controls for it and audio. Other threads mention holding down a reset button but the only one I have is the up/down roller and pressing that does not change it. No settings in the Setup either for Speed Warning Thanks!
  6. Filled my FL 1.4 TSI 3 times now with petrol, at a different petrol station every time. At each one the pump cuts out when I pull the trigger all the way up for max flow. I have to fiddle around with the nozzle and hold the trigger about half way. So I don't get max flow. Anyone else had this happen? Maybe I should read the manual!
  7. As I started this thread I thought I would add that my 1.4 TSI DSG came with an ESP Off button so I assume I have it. Hill hold certainly seems to work as well!
  8. Checked tyre pressures and 2.2 bar all round. Need to get a proper gauge as I only have my bike track pump to check it.
  9. I have had a new 1.4TSI DSG Elegance Estate for 2 weeks and like you have found the ride uncomfortable on some surfaces. The M25 J9/J10 is a concrete section that seems to bounce the whole car up and down. I did not notice this in my old focus estate. I drove 400 miles over the weekend with 3 passengers who said the ride was firm but not uncomfortable. They actually did appreciate the ride not being too smooth as one is prone to car sickness. On most roads I don't notice it, just dodgy concrete sections. I find the seats very comfortable, the engine seems well matched to the DSG and is more than powerful enough (for me!). As you say, the car looks great, the inside is brilliant, but the hard ride is the only thing I'm disappointed about.
  10. Thanks for the replies. I am really pleased with the car, and don't mind the harder ride most of the time. I suppose my 7 year old focus was getting a bit soft. But when we test drove a FL estate I thought that it was a fairly smooth, softish ride. How does everyone else find concrete roads such as M25 J9 - J11? I do feel like I am bouncing around in my seat! We have a long trip coming up this weekend and I will ask my passengers what they think! But maybe their added weight will dampen it out.
  11. Thanks for the replies. I'm glad to say it doesn't look like that! It is on the damper not on the spring. Looking at it again it looks like a protective sleeve and is made of yellow rubber. Maybe different suspensions have a different colour? Also, it won't be yellow for long. Anyone else find the Elegance Estate a hard ride? Concrete M25 is quite unpleasant but didn't notice that much in my old Focus. Only had the car a few days so maybe it will soften up a bit?
  12. I have just got my new FL Octavia 1.4TSI DSG Elegance Estate and think the ride is very hard. Especially on the M25 concrete section between J9 and J11. I am literally bouncing up and down on my seat! Had a quick look at the tyre pressue. About 2.2 bars so not far off. But the rear shocks have a yellow plastic cover that is visible from the wheel arch. Is it some kind of transport block. Otherwise why would it be yellow???
  13. I will be on 3 years free servicing. Salesman told me with my mileage being about 9000 to be on fixed. He said to make sure my 3rd service is done slightly early so any MOT failures can be fixed under warranty.
  14. My 1.4TSI DSG Estate has been put on a ship already! I ordered it Week 29, so it could turn out to be 10-11 weeks all in.
  15. Do you get ESP when you buy a DSG? It says in the brochure that the 1.4 TSI DSG comes with ESP so it makes sense for all the 1.4/1.8 TSI DSG models to have it as well! I was going to add ESP anyway but for another £600 could get DSG as well. Is it correct that if you buy a 4 or 3 spoke steering wheel with the audio controls it includes the maxidot computer as well and you don't have to buy it seperately? Thanks!
