  1. Farmers in Leicester have invited me to theirs and I'll go if I can sort out babysitting. Our normal babysitters can't do next Thursday. :( The last thing we went to there was the launch of their new showroom and it was a good night.
  2. I was going to say the same thing, so I'm glad you did.My wife had an accident, years ago, where the third party claimed that my wife had gone through a red light. In fact, because of the way the lights were phased, it was impossible for her to have done so unless the third party had gone through a red light which had been red for a lot longer! Doubtless in this case, the third party will claim to know the junction intimately and therefore to have known that the lights changed consistently in both directions. But she was still a muppet - it is obvious to anyone but a numpty whether a car approaching you is going to stop, and to proceed despite that is reckless whether you are "in the right" or not.
  3. I've had this today in my log file: What is this all about? It looks like it has got 85% through a very big work unit (which has been running for a whole week) and then died - and deleted the work! It's currently starting a new WU.Any ideas, anyone?
  4. I have never heard of any legal case like you are describing and I don't believe for a moment that he can be financially liable for anything. Now, morally liable is obviously a different matter.
  5. I think the conspiracy theory stuff is a little overdone. The car insurance market in the UK is FAR too competitive for any insurer to cream off extra profit on a particular type of car - if one tries it, someone else will under-cut them by the necessary amount to steal the business back.If premiums for Fab vRS's go up, it will be because the assessed risk is higher than previously thought - because of all the write-offs we keep hearing about - not because of an insurance company conspiracy.
  6. I don't agree that those 3 lane roads (and I assume you mean those with a "shared" overtaking lane) are "ridiculously dangerous". There are still some too - on the A465 Heads of the Valleys road in South Wales - I was blatting along them a few weeks back. They are only dangerous if people mis-use them. They are obviously safer than overtaking on a normal 2-lane single carriageway road, as there's an extra lane! Mis-using them is sitting in the middle lane as a normal driving lane, or overtaking when you don't have the power or speed differential to do so. But they aren't inherently safer than a normal 2-lane single carriageway.
  7. I can't understand why they aren't available on the Octy II vRS when they are available on the Fab vRS and always have been. What is Skoda's logic here???
  8. My car was serviced in September and needed a replacement seat base. Despite me telling the dealer about this in advance, they didn't get one in stock, so didn't fix it at the service; they then said they'd ordered one but didn't contact me at all. I rang them in December to see what was happening and they blatantly hadn't got a clue, as they had one in stock but hadn't bothered to call me about it. Now it's been fitted, and the seat covers are all filthy whereas they were spotless before. Oh, and when they fitted it and drove the car to pick my wife up from town where they'd dropped her off, she got in to drive the dealer chap back to the garage and the seatbelt couldn't be done up because they hadn't fitted things back together properly. She asked the dealer chap why he hadn't noticed and he said "cos I never wear seatbelts". D'oh! I think I might change to my local dealer rather than the one where we bought it.
  9. If they are in cars and working in pairs, it's far more likely to be an ANPR (automatic number plate recognition) based check for insurance, road tax, stolen cars, etc. than anything to do with speeding. They don't need a Scooby to catch you for speeding when they can just send you a nasty letter in the post!
  10. Because it's a PDA-based system, I think the screen will be quite a bit smaller than a lot of sat-navs. But it's a very good system for the price, if you wanted both a PDA and a sat-nav.
  11. We have had the problem a few times in our Laguna and it's been resolved either by replacing the pollen filter, which had got completely clogged up, or by squirting the antibacterial cleaning stuff down the air vents in the car. Hope one of them works for you.
  12. We seem to be starting to reach an equilibrium position in the rankings - we are alternately overtaking and being overtaken and it looks like it will stay that way for a while. Production seems to have been falling again which is a pity. :(
  13. I worked as a delivery driver in 1989 for a Ford dealership and dealer exchanges were NEVER done by driving the car. The only reason cars got driven any sort of distance before the end user got them was:- we had a storage depot about 5 miles away which we used for the 1st August registration change rush, so cars could easily get 10 miles on them from a trip there and back (or possibly a few trips there and back if something went wrong); and - FLEET deliveries were often driven to the company's offices because the fleet didn't want to pay extra for transporter delivery and didn't care about 50-100 miles.
  14. I did upgrade to IE7 sometime just before the problem arose; I've changed FAH to not use IE settings or proxy settings and that seems to have done the trick as my two pending WUs have now uploaded.
