  1. I too have received this email and in answer to your question no the only option is to renew for 1 year. I have to say I have given up on most of the head unit stuff. My Kodiaq does not want to talk to make any internet connection to my Iphone The Map updates are hopeless as it constantly tells me the service is unavailable Trying to download the maps gives you a 25gb download and then advises you that nothing may work if you dare to install it but you guessed it is your problem if it all goes horribly wrong. The bluetooth music connection works sometimes but sometimes not Most of the info you can look up on connect is pretty useless Apple Navigation does not show the map properly Also I find the satnav has periodic nervous breakdowns and goes off to search for an address and does not come back just keeps looking for ever I went to a pub having entered the full address and having taken me to the destination I checked on my phone and I was 20 minutes away from where the pub really was!! I am staggered that Skoda have the audacity to charge for this "service". I have been renewing the traffic licence on my Audi for 4 years no charge at all. I would love to know how many people actually pay up for this £117 per year ........................................... No Chance! However the Kodiaq itself is great, Love Adaptive Cruise, Love Panoramic Sunroof
  2. If you are looking for a Data sim there is only one route to go www.tello.co.uk I bought a £20 sim for my MMI on my Audi A8 and I have now been using it for 10 months, as long as it is used (which it is for me on traffic updates) there is no expiry. I still have £17.48 in credit - No Brainer!
  3. I thought it might be useful to share my experience (and understanding) to date with some of the Skoda Connect 'concept' I have an iPhone which Of itself is not a good start. There as I understand it two ways Bluetooth works the best system is RSAP (remote sim access protocol) whereby the car connects to your phone by directly accessing the SIM card when this is combined with an in car phone system you effectively have a proper car phone and the signal strength etc becomes the same as an inbuilt car phone this system was originally designed by Nokia and is not supported by Apple. The second is where the Bluetooth provides a link for the microphone and speaker to your car audio and in car microphone (Apple). Got my music from the iPhone and 'car phone' working fine in the Kodiaq. in terms of using the iPhone to connect to the Internet this is where I am having issues! I had registered for Skoda connect prior to going to pick up the car but even if you have not please be aware that in order to set this feature up you will need to sign up to Skoda connect when you collect the vehicle. As part of this process they will then send you an email activation link so you will need to be able to access your emails when you are collecting the car. i am struggling to connect my iPhone to use as a hotspot to access the Internet for Skoda Connect. I have however found that when at home and setting the system up it was more than happy to connect to my home wifi whilst parked on the drive which made things easier. As I understand it this may be useful for map updates for the satnav as these are large files. i have also had a play with the routing system in Skoda connect. To set up routes you first need to set up all of the destinations, you MUST click on Activate for each destination (otherwise it does not download to the car) you then crate a route selecting from your previously stored destinations to create your route (again remember to activate the route) these will then download to the car. the satnav so far has been disappointing as it seems to struggle to find some postcodes and addresses I think that re in there but the search seems a bit weird I would be interested on how others get on? I have not had the adaptive cruise control before and if you a ordering get it the system is fantastic it makes driving so much easier and is really good one small point which I did discover was that having set it to 70 it worked well and kept my distance from the car in front, when others cut in it slowed the car to maintain the distance I had requested and even brought the car to a halt by itself (with my foot poised over the brake pedal) BUT when following a car at 70 and then pulling off onto an empty slip road the car not unreasonably says ok you want 70 - no traffic - off we go then! Jukebox - whilst the car will connect to your iPhone for music and in mine has a cd/DVD player you can install music onto the head units memory. It has an 11gb memory with maximum file capacity of just over 3000 files. The unit did not seem to want to load music via the cd unit so I downloaded my iTunes library (bear in mind size of head unit memory) onto a USB key (I also downloaded a few ripped movies in MP4 format onto the USB) I then imported this lot to the Jukebox and the music and films all worked fine. i have been on a touring holiday and the car has just done 1000 miles and is really good it is a 2.0 diesel non 4WD and has averaged 55mpg. Next project it to look at installing a dedicated Sim to get the Skoda Connect to work properly. If you decide to go down this route.i would suggest you check out Tello for the SIM card. You buy chunks of data but it does not time expire and I have used it in one of my other cars the loaded sim was £20 and it has so far lasted about 8 months and is still going strong. look forward to hearing others experience! 4. Ordered Skoda Monte Carlo 1.2 105ps Manual Gearbox in Corrida red on the 10th April, the car was built week commencing 16th June and is due for delivery to the Dealer on the 18th of July. Hope this assists Modorator
  5. I have yet to come across anything that allows a USB to be directly connected to the iPad but I see no reason why it would not play movies as well, however if you want to play movies on the iPad I recently purchased an additional accessory for the iPad which does not seem to get mentioned anywhere. The product is a seagate Goflex Satellite drive. It is a 500gb external hard drive which allows me to store my entire library of music and films. Nothing that different BUT this has a few additional benefits! It also has a built in battery and a car charger but more importantly produces its own wifi. There are no issues with the wifi as clearly everybody is well within range ( notionally otherwise 100ft I think). Therefore if people in the car have various iPods/iPads/iPhones the unit can be plugged into the cigarette lighter and when these units select it (via settings/wifi) up to 8 ( I have tried 3 ) units can be connected at the same time all watching different content streamed direct from the drive. It has the additional benefit that it can download direct to the iPhone etc so that items can be watched and then deleted and the process repeated. It is also really useful on holiday abroad just plug it in an away you go the whole family can connect and watch their programmes/films. Cost £150 comes with uk mains adapter as well as car unit. Thought this might be of interest Modorator (I love a gadget!!!!)
  6. Ordered Monte Carlo 10th April and be advised delivery 'August' 1.2TSI 105PS 5spd plus some extras Still waiting for build date anybody else an ideas on delivery for a factory build?
  7. Thanks that makes a lot of sense, during the week I only really use the car for the station run and to be honest it does not do many miles at the weekend so the explanation would make sense. I also encounter problems with the IPOD playing and I think this may be the same problem too many short journeys so it does not get the chance to charge properly. When this happens the play on the centre screen is not selectable. Many thanks for you help, I will have to give it a decent run and then monitor the situation - clever things these skodas!
  8. I seem to have a intermittent fault on my Superb 2 and I was wondering if anybody else had encountered or resolved the problem. Since I got the car when it is dark and you unlock or leave the car the lights come on for 10 seconds to provide what most manufacturers term Total Illumination so that you can see the area around the car. This worked faultlessly for over a year but now only seems to work when it feels like it (on unlocking the car) but always when leaving and locking the car. I have tried resetting the delay time to 20 secs via the information menu and restoring factory lighting settings neither of which makes the fault dissappear. I wonder if it might be a fault with the rear view mirror not sensing it is dark enough but it lacks consistency when it fails. Are there any other sufferers out there? I spoke to skoda who did not seem to think the Superb II had such a feature but then said it must be a fault. As I am 90mins from nearest dealer it will otherwise have to await its next service. Great Car - Other than Sat Nav and the fact the iphone wont connect due to rsap!
  9. Hamish, Dont know if this helps but I have a touch connected to a Columbus head unit, when you see the alphabetical list of songs on mine there are two 'file' type options on the screen the first top right is the 'back' option and top left is a sort of 'folder' icon, if you select the folder icon this takes you up to a higher level menu for selection by artist etc. I dont know if yours works the same way but thought it might help. 10. Not an easy decision, I think if you do high mileage the diesel is probably worth going for. When I bought my superb I faced the same decision but I do limited miles and I went for the petrol. It really is quiet you can hardly hear it when you first start up. On the road the 7 speed DSG works really well and is not underpowered which was one of my concerns. I am really happy with mine and it has performed faultlessly since I got it. If you have a few sovereigns left to spend I would suggest investing in the Heated front screen is really worth while (especially given the current weather). The other investment I made was in a Novus Piccolo, the sat nav in the superb is great if you have a full address but the postcode nav is crap and only goes down to the first 4 characters which is pretty poor in this day and age. The SATNAV also does not allow you to put speed camera alerts on unless you have a PHD in complicated computing. The Piccolo is about the size of a £2 coin and I got the dealer to hardwire mine in to the ignition, it comes with free updates for life and assists in avoiding charitable donations to HMG and points for the licence. I really reccomend it and it is only about £50. Whichever model you select I will be very surprised if you dont enjoy it! Modorator
  11. Ben, I am using an HTC Snap with no problem - If you go into settings then bluetooth there should be a setting SIM Access - If you select that you can activate Remote Sim Access - I dont know if it will work on your HTC Hero but it worked on the snap. Good Luck Modorator
  12. I have recently picked up my new superb which is great and looks fantastic in Rosso Brunello with cream leather. Prior to picking it up I found some really useful info on this forum so I thought it right to share a couple of things. I specified the MDI (Mobile Device Interface) which provides a connection for your IPOD in the armrest and lets you 'see' the ipod on the Sat Nav screen. A couple of points, first you also need a lead for the ipod as the MDI ends with the plug thing in the glovebox. When you 'see' the IPOD (Touch 2G in my case) you can view the music by song, artist and playlist etc all of which can be controlled via the touch screen on the Sat Nav unit. The IPOD also charges whilst attached when the engine is on. I know it is an indulgence but I think it is probably better than relying on a 3.5m jack and makes selecting your music etc really easy. I also tried to use the bluetooth on the IPOD to connect which is a no go and also you cant see video content on the IPOD more is the pity. The DVD Quality is really good especially with the upgraded speakers. I can confirm that the HTC Snap Mobile is fully compliant with the bluetooth system. BUT there is a setting on the phone to activate the remote access to the SIM. The Samsung SGH770 is not compliant. The ability to have the settings on the drivers seat linked to the remote is great and I now no longer get cut in half trying to get in when the wife has been in the car. Should you need an additional key be prepared £125. The inability to put speed cameras on the RNS510 Satnav has been really annoying given how good it is at everything else and I am going to give up as trying to do it appears to require computer skills to a level which I am sadly lacking. I have instead invested in a Novus Piccolo GPS speed camera Alert System - it is a tiny unit about 5cmx5cmx1.5cm which looks like a bit of plastic which is handy as it does not make it attractive to light fingered passers by. It is held in place on a magnetic disc and can easily be removed to be updated on the PC Novus Alpha Novus GPS Rider Delta novus piccolo coyote speed camera detection I am hoping to get it hard wired to sit on the dash on permanent guard against the speed camera brigade. I have given it a quick test and it appears to work really well and free updates for life are included in the price. I managed to find it for £48. Beware though, despite what is says on the box it does not come with the lead to connect to the computer unless it comes from an authorised dealer. It is only a USB to Mini USB which is a pretty common lead (as for Blackberry). Unfortunately the SATNAV disc was not the most up to date and the dealer is ordering the current version which appears to be Version 5 (April 2009) which hopefully will be more up to date. Also dealership Underwoods at Colchester were really good on customer service. Hope this may be of some use Modorator
