  1. Hi people. Had my Octavia for around 3 years now, its a 56' 1.9Tdi Skoda octavia, about 2 years ago the rear offside door locked and the window stopped working (nothing happened when the buttons were pressed). Anyway I took it to Skoda and they didnt know what the problem was, but the engineer managed to open the door and it could be only opened from the inside not the outside, the window still didnt work, just got took it for its MOT yesterday and it failed due to the door not opening from the outside (again it opens from the inside only) VOSA were there and failed it, anyway now it opens from both sides and has passed the MOT, but now the door wont lock, has anybody got an idea? VAG com could hope? Thanks for your time, Dave
  2. ah great!, is the 530 fully synthetic oil correct for my engine? Dave
  3. Hi guys, Need some help, the engine warning light just came on and its got me worried. Im on a variable service plan, its a 1.9tdi 105bhp BXE engine code, ive done a little look into it and it says its the 530 fully synthetic oil. which should be used? Also where is the fuse located for the ciggerette lighter? that blew on me the other day :( Thanks for your time. Dave
  4. Forgive me, could you explain what VCDS is? I havent a clue! and where can I get this tested? Thanks again, Dave
  5. Hi people, Woke up this morning to find the airbag light on, ive had a look through the octy manual, but no help, I switch the engine on and it goes off for 1 second, then comes back on again and stays on... any ideas? Thanks for your time, Dave
  6. Mike, Thanks for the quick and informative reply. I shall order that kit in the next couple of days, its certainly cheaper than the kit at my local skoda garage (£111.10 inc VAT). Just rang my trusty local garage and then will only buy the parts themselves and fit them, they wont let me use the kit I buy! ah nevermind, my garage is asking £160 labour + parts so it will be around 300 ish anyway, this is a tough one. He also said that he would use a belt made by the name of Gates? never heard of them, i need genuine parts to keep this warranty. Thanks again, Dave
  7. Hi Guys, Just a little help needed, my timing belt is due for change soon (October), and ive got two quotes from nearby skoda garages, one is £355.39 (including everything VAT ect), and another for £400.00 on the dot for everything again, which includes a water pump change too, firstly how important is the water pump and are these prices decent? or is it better to go to a local garage? Thanks for your time, Dave
  8. Hello, Im due for a service soon in around 900 miles, im on variable and my car is a '56 105PD Ambiente, since my car was registered in october '06 Im due a Cambelt/Timing belt change at 4 years or 80k miles (my car has done 46k), Id like to know from you guys how much a genuine skoda timing belt kit costs and the hours of labour involved so I know if im being over charged etc..one more question...phoned up a few skoda dealers and independant registered VAT dealers to get a price on the servicing, while Skoda dealers obviously only use skoda parts, the independant dealers said they would just use VW parts, does this really matter it terms of my warranty? (I have a 3 year warranty with car plan). Thanks for your time!! Dave
  9. Intresting site... Wondering if any sites do the same as the silver vRS interior? all i could find was mahogany and carbon fibre etc on that website mine however is just the SE, no dual climate ('56 reg) Thanks Dave
  10. Im not techno guy but.. I have a 1.9 TDi 105BHP i think the revs kick in 2500rpm, I know it is working if im on the motorway and put my foot down there is a smooth constant acceleration (when its at 2500rpm or more) and I think its pretty obvious, BTW im just telling you from MY experience, mine could be broken for all i know! ^^ Dave
  11. Sorry didnt realise your replied! Anyway I drive around 16-18k per year due to my job. Driving style I take it easy somtimes give it a little push but nothing mad. Another question I have, being new to all this, What is VAG? I assume its somthing to do with the platform of engines the octavia uses as well with VW, Audi and SEAT, so in other words just means common parts etc? Also what is ECU remapping? Thanks for your time! Dave
  12. Wow now thats nice! I've always loved candy white, beautiful! BTW you have better mpg than my 1.9 TDi PD!
  13. Had my 1.9 TDi (mk2 105 bhp) since the 22nd of December and im managing exactly on the dot 50mpg and thats driving just normally, not trying TOO much, i hope it goes up a little in the summer months!
  14. Thanks mannyo, Question is..is this the official time to have it serviced? or is there any other way of indicating the next service? gadgetman...I assume im already on variable and I want to stay on it after reading that link you just posted, what are the benifits and negetives of using a fixed servicing? Dave
  15. Ok magic, just done that, heres what came up... first it said "3220" with a little spanner....then after about 5-7 seconds a second number appeared "404" with a little spanner again plus a little clock... do you know what this means? Thanks mate, Dave
  16. Hi Guys, Just got a Black Mark 2 Octavia ambiente, and its flipping lovley! (1.9 TDi), Question is...In order to keep the warranty valid I have to get it serviced at the correct milage/time etc. In the service schedule books it has been serviced at 14,886 miles and then at 30,152, it now has done 42,125, however when I read the manual etc it talks about variable servicing, ie the dashboard indicating when it has to be serviced, however is this the offical way of knowing the correct time to service it or is there somthing in the manual which ive missed?, or do i just ring up the garage to find out? Thanks for your time, Dave
  17. Thank you, you have answered my question. Dave
  18. Hi guys quick question, After an Octavia online and wondering whether its a mark 1 or mark 2, since the picture they use is just a libary picture, its 105 BHP, does that guarantee its defo a mark 2? Ive had a mark 1 before and would prefer a mark 2 since its a little different inside.... Thanks for your time, Dave
  19. Hi everyone, I've just recently purchased a skoda octy 1.9 tdi in white (classic) and its the DOGS ********! anyway ive run into a little problem, one night i thought i needed the rear windscreen heated (next to the ASR button) and its stuck down (constantly pressed) and wont seem to budge one bit, im wondering if anyone knows how to solve this, ive just to let it free but with my luck, Thanks for your time, Dave

  21. Thanks for the replys guys, Im pretty sure its a mark 1 being the old style and have only just found out they have still been making the mark 1 till the beggining of '09 which suprised me, appranatly this car used to be a rep car or somthing similar so its looking hopefull, only problem is that it has no air con, but it only adds up on the bill anyway, here are some pics...(you'll see what I mean by the inside being oldish looking for being an '07) Imageshack - skodaoct1 Imageshack - skodaoct2 How can you externally tell the difference between the A4 and A5? Cheers guys, Dave
