  1. Hello, occasional lurker on here. I had the option of a range of cars from either VW, Audi or Skoda as a company vehicle. Chose a VW Passat Sport over a Skoda Superb Elegance - just, as DAB not available on the Superb. After having a Mondeo which had DAB as Standard in 2008 I found I really liked having DAB in the car as I listen to Absolute, Radio 5 and Planet Rock (not at the same time though!) Overall the DAB reception is very good - better than the Ford and in combination with the satellite navigation system has proved to be very good indeed. I highly rate Skodas and presently on the company car list there is the choice of Yeti's (Elegance) and Octavia Scouts so maybe next time (2 years to go) when they sort out the DAB radio / sat nav availability!!
  2. Hello, as in my previous post Skoda UK informed me that DAB IS available if Sat Nav is fitted to the car whether as a factory fit or dealer fit, Skoda UK did not say. Only to contact my local dealer. However upon contacting my local dealer he stated that DAB was not available on ANY Skoda with ANY combination of Radio / Sat Nav. I went back to Skoda UK informing them of my conversation with the dealer which appeared to contradict the information I was given by themselves (Skoda UK) this was almost 2 weeks ago and I still await a response. DAB radio may be an insignificance to some but for me and amount of driving I do I have found it to be something which I would dearly miss if my next car did not have it available either as standard or an option - it would seem to be a step backwards. I would gladly pay for DAB at a reasonable cost to myself - being a company car driver.
  3. Hello all, adding my bit to the DAB debate. I have DAB fitted to my Ford Mondeo as standard - 58 Plate. I cover in excess of 35000 business miles a year across the country and I have personally found DAB radio a great feature I listen to a variety of stations - Absolute, Absolute Classic Rock, Radio 5 & Planet Rock as examples. I have found various stretches on the motorway network where reception is not available although only for a short period. My present car is to be renewal and the company I work for have mainly gone for cars from the VAG group and Toyota - Prius. I note the Passat has DAB as standard on SE spec and above. Toyota quote an eye watering £450 (Approx - dealer fit option), Audi charge £320 (approx - factory fitted). I can have a Superb, Yeti or Octavia but all do not offer no DAB as an option. I contacted Skoda UK and was informed that 'DAB IS available as an option when a Sat Nav is fitted, contact your local dealer'. Since I could get a Superb in Elegance specification I thought this would be a solution. I went to my local Skoda dealer and explained what I had been told by Skoda UK, the salesman assured me that DAB radio is NOT an option at the present time an he had not heard or had any documentation stating anything different. He did say that dealers were putting pressure on Skoda to offer DAB on their vehicles since customers were asking for it. I have again contacted Skoda on the subject and I am awaiting a response after almost 2 weeks. I hope that Ford's decision to fit DAB across the range will push other manufacturers to follow their example. In the meantime for me personally I will reluctantly not choose Skoda as my next company car.
  4. Hi there, new to Briskoda, currently driving a Mondeo Titanium, taking an interest in Skoda as their cars have recently appeared on my company car lists and my Mondeo is up for renewal in the next few months. The Mondeo I have is fitted as standard with a DAB radio as standard and I have to say that I am very impressed with the sound quality, reception and station choice. I mostly listen to Absolute, Radio 5 (+Sports Extra) and Planet Rock. I travel throughout the UK (Circa 45k miles annually) and it would be a feature / option I would definitely look for in my next car. I note the next Passat (also on company car list) will have DAB radio on the SE spec model and above, surely it is time for Skoda to at least offer DAB as an option. It was an option on my wife's Golf, now standard. Yes, there are parts of the road network where reception 'drops out' - M6 South of Tebay services for about 12 miles (FM and MW poor reception anyway), A69 around Haltwhistle about 7 - 10 miles (FM and MW available). In built up areas I have had no loss of signal and I am often in Leeds, Sheffield, Manchester, Birmingham and Edinburgh. My brother recently got a new Insignia and it also has DAB fitted and he said that it was 'a revelation' and can now understand why I have been 'banging' on about it since September 2008 - when I got my Mondeo. So for me if given the choice of a Superb or Passat to have for the next 100,000 miles then I am afraid the latter would clinch it for me, if DAB available in Superb then I would no doubt go for the Skoda as I really rate the Superb. The choice of a radio will I am sure seem 'petty' to some people and should not detract from the car itself but it is something which I will use and it will make the trawl up and down the UK Motorway system that little bit more bearable. theno9!
