  1. By the way my car has now done 102000 miles, and she still looks lovely, I still love the drive, the space, the spec, and she averages 59mpg too (my drive to work is country lanes and up and down dual carriageways, on a motorway run she averages well over 65mpg, it's just a shame about the sensor.
  2. Thanks everyone. It has been a problem just after the warranty ran out, a long time ago now. I'm hoping now they've investigated that it won't be permanent, you know what these things are like, sometimes having been looked at they are worse. If not I may consider living with it if they are that temperamental, one side is better than none if its only in the wet especially if they can't be sure its the control box :( don't really want to pay for something that won't work. Silver 1011 - they tried two new sensors and one from the side that works but they still didn't solve the problem. Thnks for your reply, much appreciated.
  3. hello there, haven't been on here for a long time, but am still very pleased with my 06 octavia elegance estate, in fact I love it. Want to ask has anyone had a problem with their rear parking sensors. My right hand side comes on beeping and showing very close to something when it has rained, or just after rain. I took it to the garage today, they replaced with a new sensor but it still did it. The mechanic says that it must be the control box. My concern is that this only ever happens in wet weather, the mechanic seems to think it is probably the control box, but it really never is a problem when it is dry weather. After wet weather it usually takes about a day or two to correct itself and then it is fine until wet weather again. Has anybody else expereience this or have any ideas? Do I need a new control box. I love my car but this gets on my nerves,I can't take them out completely because as its such a long car I do need them, but I like this type of thing to work too. Ok lads, yes I'm, a lady driver
  4. I have a 1.9 TDI elegance 06 estate and am very pleased with the mileage, I mainly travel A roads (soom very steep ones on my way to work) and get about 58-59 on the Skoda readout though realistically think this works out at 4-5mpg less than that. I used to get a bit less than that in my Fabia VRS so I am really pleased with mpg for a much larger car. As I said before only changed Fabia VRS because needed an estate to accommodate my fathers wheelchair but confess to really enjoying the extra space, trips to ikea are a doddle now! I had the 1.9 TDI because it was cheaper than the 2.0 TDI. Also goes fast enough for me too.
  5. Thanks for that its very helpful, however not a car diy person myself so I'll have the front ones done by my skoda dealership. You have helped me make up my mind, thanks again. x
  6. I am thinking about having wind deflectors fitted to my Octy II cos I am a bit fed up of drips coming into the cabin if after I clean my wind screen I open my side window. Has anyone else had these fitted? Are they worth having? be grateful for anyones opinions. Thanks.
  7. Hmmm not that impressed by whats in the brochure, looking at that I prefer the old type, but of course may be quite different when I actually view one. I hope so!
  8. I am just about to replace my original front tyres they have done nearly 23,000 miles which I think is pretty good. Rear ones don't need replacing yet. They are the original Bridgestone ones, can't remember size but they stand out proud from the alloy to protect them from scuffing at curbs. I had the standard vega wheels on my Octy by the way. Was thinking of having the same type again as have been pleased with them but have no idea how much that will cost me.
  9. An excellent choice of car, I have been really pleased with my 06 Octy 2 1.9 tdi elegance estate, it is so roomy and very economical to drive. Was a little reluctant to change from my Fabia VRS but had to because i needed a car big enough to put my dads wheelchair in. Although I miss the sporty feel of the Fabia VRS the space and extras on the Octy 2 have made up for it. I am a big skoda fan based on experiences with the two skodas i have owned. Enjoy your car you won't regret it.
  10. I have a 06 1.9 tdi elegance and opted for the ordinary alloys that came with it. I am pleased that i did so because i drive lots of country lanes and a roads. I have to say I am very happy with them and think they suit this type of roadsurface very well. I rarely drive on motorways and the main a road I drive on is a concrete one. So if this is the type of driving you do I wouldn't bother with the £500 alloys. Hope this is of help.
  11. Sorry haven't managed to get on here for a while as have had problems with my computer. A ladies club! What a great idea. I'll join.
  12. Congratulations, I love my Octy Elegance, it is very roomy and a comfortable drive.
  13. I have an elegance with the vega wheels, I didn't want the pegusus ones because it made the car slightly lower and I live in the country and do quite a few miles on narrow unkept lanes. I like the vega wheels because they are easy to clean, on the previous fabia vrs that i had the wheels were more intricate and took more effort to clean them. My main journey to work is on the A465 where I am also glad to have a slightly higher car because while they are doing the roadworks on the Abergavenny/Gilwern stretch the road is quite bumpy and now with the Autumn rains pretty muddy at times to, so am even more glad I chose to have the standard vega wheels. Hope that helps.
  14. Thanks for that ednmra. I really love my Octy II, its so roomy and I will hopefully be keeping it for a good few years, its so practical (and my dad's wheelchair fits into it easily), so I feel its important that I'm using the correct oil. I like my dealership but we can all make mistakes if we are in a hurry I was hoping they hadn't made a mistake in giving me that type of oil instead of the 5W-30 I have been reading about.
  15. My garage gave me OW/30 Castrol SLX longlife II, looking at the list given at the top of this OCTY thread it's not on there, can anyone tell me if they gave me the correct oil to top up for a variable service?
  16. Have been following this thread with interest. My March 06 OctyII is on a variable service and has now done 11,500 miles and we have had to top it up and have just used the last bit of the litre of longlife oil we bought to do so because yesterday the orange low level oil warning light came on when i was driving home from work. Listening to everyone on here makes me wonder if I am doing the correct thing being on variable service. I thought it would be good because my skoda garage is some distance from me so having to take the car there less would be an advantage but I wouldn't like to think it was at cost to my engine. I do about 20,000 each year does anyone have any advice on which type of service would be best?
  17. I have a black 1.9 TDi Octavia Elegance Estate (combi) and think it looks great even when dirty! Spent a week in Ireland (Limerick, Kerry and Connemara so lots of mileage) during the summer and it was great on the Irish roads, I have the 16" Vega wheels you definately won't need the 17" over there also here cruise control is standard on the elegance but I never used it once in Ireland and never missed it. The 1.9 has plenty of power too. I think your original choice was great but don't bother with cruise control if you have to pay extra for it, put the money into the leather seats, the one thing I haven't got that I regret.
  18. SORTED! Took time to have a close inspection of the car, turns out my husband had put back seats down and when returning car to former state hadn't clipped one of the rear seat clips in properly, so as simple as that. I thought it was us women who were supposedly unable to do this sort of thing! I was glad it wasn't anything else because we have just come back from driving 1000 miles in Ireland, the Octy was an excellent drive and coped well with the Irish roads, I am not surprised they are so popular with the Irish, no bad Skoda car jokes over there! All our friends were very impressed we had a new Octy.
  19. My dad is disabled and when he gets in my octy estate he has to push himself in by putting his foot on the door sill. I wanted to ask your opinions on the effectiveness of the door sill covers. I was looking a the metallic ones for the OCTY at
  20. Thanks for your replies. I will have to go through what i carry in the car, if its not any of that then when it goes for its first service i will ask the dealer to investigate. I am now on nearly 11,000 miles and using variable service, anyone any idea when I can expect the service sign to come up?
  21. My Octy has developed a squeak (not a rattle) somewhere behind the drivers seat, any ideas what this could be?
  22. I love my 06 Octy 2 estate but I do regret not having leather seats (my hubbie persuaded me otherwise) does anyone know if it is possible to have these fitted and approx how much. Has anyone had this done?
  23. Yes my 1.9 tdi Fabia vrs would roll when lifting the clutch without pressing the accelerator as did the 1.9 tdi Golf I had before that but my smaller engine Golf and polo (these both petrol) didn't. I was told it did that because of the more powerful engine, also wonder if it is because they are deisel.
