  1. I had a 3rd Brake Light Warning on my dash for the last week or so, tried to source a replacement but couldn't find the correct one online and some conflicting advise for the estate version. Decided to have a look see this weekend and if needed get the part number but ran into some bother worth posting. The tailgate trim is ok to remove - just one hex bolt on the pull shut handle, pop the two lights off and feed back thru the holes. some trim levers in from the sides and confidently separate with vigour, the second trim section has two plastic rawlplug type fittings that need pulled out first, then squeeze the sides to the centre till the fittings pop and pulldown to remove the rest. when you then see the led it doesn't have any bolts (so nothing like the youtube octavia video) but does have some weirdo plastic spring-loaded clips you can barely see thru tiny openings. it would have helped if I had seen the pictures first before doing this Eventually popped it out with the help of some patience & small long nose pliers - there is probably a much easier way. managed to crack a corner of the otherwise pristine cover waggling it out. the secret seems to be after freeing the 3 plastic tabs back through the holes there still remains a single plastic retainer as shown in the photos. so after removal and testing there is nothing wrong with my actual light - excellent news. I traced the wiring down the left hand side, Removed the rubber boots from top and bottom of the top left and found the broken red and brown wire.. not my first time finding wires broken at the bendy bit of the loom I should have started here first and saved a load of hassle. removing the light did mean I could pull the wire thru a bit and made the wire repair a bit easier but its still very tight. trying to reattach the rubber wire boot to the plastic holder thing is a bit of an impossible task, after wasting considerable time with zero success the trick seems to be just pulling the plastic bit right out (with the help of pliers), and manipulating the rubber on to it then poking it back in. the trim goes back on ok if you take your time and a 2nd pair of hands for the bottom tailgate bit is recommended as is remembering to poke the wee lights back through the holes before refitting, got mine back together with only one broken fixing... anyways if you get the 3rd brake light check the wire loom first, its honestly about a million times easier that removing all that trim and light, there is a distinct lack of that light 3T9 945 097 on ebay etc and its easy to see why - its almost designed to self destruct on removal. New ones are £150+ and when I looked out of stock.. K
  2. Had a fault which knocked out my Air Con - wouldn't blow cold and when I took it to be recharged the centre said the Air Con pully wasnt engaging, you could actually see it not spinning when you looked at it despite the Air Con being on and no error messages. I didnt think it was the AC compressor at fault as this had been replaced with a new one a few years ago. Other faults at the same time were the auto-Dimming rear mirror had no power regardless of where the switch was and the oil temp sensor was not returning any values and throwing the occasional error code. The faults were all related - they are on the same wiring section and have a common fuse (which was ok) the issue was only apparent when I had a look at the Air Quality Sensor under the windscreen cowling at the front passenger side, I dont know when it started failing but it was very whiffy of burnt electricals. I've hands like shovels so just unplugged it without taking all the footery gubbings apart first. just removing the burnt out air quality sensor seemed to clear the path and everything else started wotking as normal. Initially leaves a fault code B10A415 Signal wire for air quality sensor, Open Circuit/Shart circuit to B+ but that cleared when I replaced it. Its worth a swatch if you have the same faults. Keith
  3. I've had this a few times on different sides. The ABS sensors fail and do this - you get a huge chain of alarming messages & DTCs for Brakes, Central Electrics, Steering Assistance, Headlights and so on Dash warning messages for: Tire Pressure Monitoring, ABS Stabilisation Control (ESC), Stop-Start The DSC can also start acting up - not changing up gear or dropping down to a lower gear. The causes are most likely a failed sensor, sensor wiring faults or a broken / very dirty abs ring on the wheel bearing - as the bearing starts to fail it expands and bursts the ring. best case scenario its the sensor - they are pretty cheap and if your careful and dont bend it about (its cheap plastic) easy diy to replace, youtube has a ween of videos on this. from experiance dont buy cheap or you'll be replacing it again within the year get oem or similar. if its the wheel bearing then put it in somewhere to fix as these are an absolute swine to change. Once its sorted then all the other faults should clear on their own after a drive.
  4. Apologies been away working this weekend, Thanks very much for the replies @Breezy_Pete that's a peachy link shows all the bits I'm looking at thx. Ill get the VIN once I'm back home later this week K

  6. I'm trying to identify what AC compressor my superb has, 2014 2.0 AUTO DIESEL got one of those draper pokey camera things and had a look but only managed to identify the blooming bracket 3abc9a4e-fa0b-4f9b-b6a8-d7cc7d9ec81d.jfif 6c5e76cc-f41b-47e2-bd35-d033fe5ffe61.jfif ba63c6bb-a23e-486d-9fa9-26c9671cbff2.jfif b79619d4-3b29-4b4e-a983-ed1190cc5696.jfif is there a location for the Id tag on these things? Or does the clutch give any clues to the identity. any help welcome Keith
  7. A Very Happy New Year to all, Some closure on this post at last: tested all the wiring and every part of it is 100%, was really past the scratching head point.. got hold of another rns-510 head unit and it was only when powering it up whilst the head unit to test and it was still dangling out the fault cause became clear. The brown speaker plug block looked as if it wasn't sitting properly in the radio harness connector - it was sitting a bit proud, closer look at it the top clips had snapped off and it was moving, not a lot but enough it seems to impact on the entire driver side (the rear had started flaking out as well during December). the loom for connector that isn't very big either and perhaps when pushing the radio back in it has inadvertently strained it. I've pulled it out here to show what one it is: for a fix I've hot glued it to the black connector block with the lock arm, should keep it from trying to run away. Hallelujah I have all round sound Thanks for all the comments and help - I still can't believe the state of that drivers door loom - 100% problems waiting to start happening..
  8. just an update - the loom was indeed looking very sorry for itself, just as well it was getting replaced as I don't think it would have lasted longer without causing problems. the eBay wires and solder connectors worked ok but got a bit fiddly with the smaller wires so I ended up soldering them manually and just using heat shrink tape the colours didn't really match but hey ho - needs must. all in all I think it will last for a good while. I tested and replaced all wires however the speaker issue persists. I've tested both the tweeter & door speaker they are ok, tested the loom and its also good. Still looking at it - doesn't appear to be anything getting to the loom I'm going to test the head unit then the Amp next - Blooming Pantalons
  9. thanks for the clear post on the footwell lights - I've a few to do too as well and this will help loads.
  10. Hey folks, I'm getting an intermittent loss of audio on the drivers door, not all the time but enough that I've just faded it to the rears. Google and the forum search have pointed to the Door loom and I've priced up the repair kit: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/333814539014 & https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/194158396128 before I start snipping has anyone experienced this and could it have any other diagnosable cause? she's a 2014 mk2 superb many thanks Keith
  11. Hello folks, used the site for years to help my father in law with his Yeti, Karoq and Kamiq. Finally joined the club myself with a peachy Superb mk2. Happy Haloween, Keith
