  4. hey this 17704 error had it @ the beginning of the year ..... the car would start with the default setting for the outside temp ... and in the winter the engine would stop after a couple of sec after start. i had to acelerate it a bit just to get it warm after that it would run fine i did change the temp sensor under warranty but after a day or two it came back .... the car was remapped and the remapping company solved it .... it was a software error . if u want i will give u their email ... they speak english good luck
  5. hey would love to see some vRS tests .... none have been made here with Octavia Mk1 vRS. it's getting popular (vRS) here aswell but only testes with Mk2. email : [email protected] thanks a lot

  8. so ... nobody around ? with any ideas ???
  9. both me and a friend of mine (he drives seat leon FR) have this error 17704 changed thermostat / coolant sensor and error is still there. my friend changed the water pump aswell. has ANYONE solved this problem ..... ?? all i could find on forums is that people actually have this but no solution to it help is welcome
  10. well... i'm based in romania si jabba is waaaaaaay out of reach.... looked all over the internet about the N75 j valve and bypassing another one..... is there somebody that actually solved anything by doing that ? monday i'm going to get that done .... any opinions are welcome
  11. first tried with TCM (some german tuner with a branch here) and then with DIMSPORT www.dimsport.com .... that also has a branch here. looked around the internet and saw stuff about the N75j valve (to be changed to) and bypassing the N2xx valve...but nobody actually said on any forum that by chaging it ...all went well :thumbdwn:
  12. well..... got my vRS last year and was hoping chipping the car would be just as easy as it was for my other octavia (TDI) . it wasn't. last night i was @ another tuner ( i thought the first didn't have good maps) cause of the hesitation and loss of power @ medium and full acceleration somewhere between 2000-5000 rpm. the guy i saw last night had 3 maps on my car ... none worked fine. car has 18.800 km on it .... and it's all standard read stuff about the n75j valve ... nobody (from what i read on seatcupra.net/com) actually resolved anything by changing to this. any ideas would be apreciated ... now on the 180hp software
  13. now that's it !!! thanks a lot fab12v ! so... is that the new vRS or..... ?!?!?!?
  14. hey there guy i know there was a thread with a pics from the rear end of the new octavia vRS ... but i can't find it ... any leads ? thanks
  15. thanks for the replies am a bit scared of getting another turbo car .... no problems in my Tdi but as i heard turbo engines are not as reliable as regular engines. any big problems incoutered with the vRS? (engine wise) are there any guys that have any experience with honda's? went for drives with both cars.....like em both (better sound quality in the accord) and another one would be that the octavia is due to change soon so i would have an older model from the beginning :(
  16. hey guys..... i'm in need of some advice. Looking to sell my Tdi Octavia and getting something faster and have decided it's gonna be the vRS Octavia or the new Accord which has a pretty lovely engine. 2.4l 190hp and a 6 gears box. price of the accord is not that different. So basicly i'm asking for pro's and con's for both cars. P.S. Octavia started with a bit of an advantage for being a Skoda
  17. hi guys ok went to the citroen dealership as usual to make an appointment for an oil change (skoda dealer is 2 busy)..... and asked if they have the castrol slx 0w30 and they asked me the mileage on the car....it's 113.000km (about 70.000 miles) .... and they said the engine (TDI 90 HP) is old for this oil as it is 2 thin for a used engine..... i have been using this oil every winter since now (the car is 2 and 1/2 years old).... and had it's oil change every 7.000 km (4.400 miles). summer time oil has been either castrol 10w60 RS or castrol TXT 5x40. are these guys right? and second : is the castrol 80w90 API GL4 good for the gearbox? .... last year i had it changed @ the skoda dealership and have no idea what they put in ....just know it had the vw/audi/skoda/seat badge on it. is there a specification that it had to meet (the gearbox oil)? thanks
  18. k got it.... my octavia (1.9 90hp) is chiptuned by upsolute.... black smoke only apears in the first and second gear if floored...in normal driving it's fine. what i realised is that with the euro 4 diesel ....there is no skome @ all....but if i use the euro it behaves as i said before.anything got to do with this? i asked a guy at the petrol station what the difference is between the euro 3 and euro 4 diesel is. he didn't know anything else besides the fact the the sulphur in euro 3 is 0.035% and in euro 4 is 0.005%. i read somewhere that sulphur lubricates the fuel pump and also produces more deposits..... so...which is better....euro 3 or euro 4?
  19. thanks for that manny and mike.... so my next question is this... if diesel (as mike says) does not waste as much fuel when ignited then why is it that diesel engines get visible smoke when pushed hard and gas not at all (considering they're not that worn to consume oil too....the blue smoke)? and another one .... when cold started .... a car with a gas engine produces steam released through the muffler....diesel does not... why?
  20. ok the basic way that diesel ignites is by compressing the fuel/oxigen mix but what i don't understand is why does what require less fuel then just lighting up gas....which ignites easier . i think this has got something to do with gas producing more hp and diesel more toque....but i donno what :P... anybody have a clue?
  21. hi guys got a question for you... as i am not that good knowing engines i could not answer a friend of mine's question.....so...let's say u have 2 of the same cars (octavia's for ex )....one with the 1.9 tdi 90hp and the other with the 1.6 101hp.....one diesel and the other one running on gas....why is it that the diesel has a much lower consumption then the gas ......even though the performances are similar ? basicly....why do diesel engines have a lower consumption then gas engines? thanks.... PS who cares ?....diesel is better anyway LOL:D ...but i am really curious
  22. hey guys on my 2001 octavia tdi ...i changed the bushes first @ 30.000km then @ around 50.000 km and then i asked the dealer if there weren't any heavy-duty ones... the guy there put on a new collar with a stripe in the middle and the new bushes have a "rising" (donno how to say that in english) that fits right in the stipe of the collar....haven't changed them since then...much better then the "model" i had before... i'm talking about the anti-roll bar bushes ....btw if anyone interested i could ask the guy @ the dealership what the code of it is have a good weekend
  23. hey people... not that new around here but my first thread anyway...i have a 1.9 octavia from 2001...cause the poor roads around here i have to change the shocks (at 104.000 km now)... went today and ordered the monroe reflex ... both front and read....just wondering if i did a good job.... considering that it would be great to have softer suspention.... the ones i have now are sachs .... and it's a pretty rough ride in bumpy roads :bouncer: thanks
