  1. How carefully have you checked the loom? Have you checked for continuity in each wire?
  2. We've tried a few in the shed, VW seem to be pretty simple, Ford ones have built in electronics . Going to fit one to another project when I get time.
  3. As a point of useless information these heaters are made in southwest Ireland, i have a few working rejects to suit different cars in my shed
  4. The heater are elements are poor, all of mine packed up even though the passenger seat was very rarely used. I did consider fitting a better heater but never got around to it before I sold the car.
  5. That seems excessive, a few months ago the timing belt, water pump and aux belt were changed on my 2.L for the Skoda Ireland fixed price of 420 euro.
  6. My Mk1 seats all worked perfectly too, sold it with 165,000 on it. IMHO the Mk1 seats were much better in many ways.
  7. The controller is under the passenger seat or under the carpet. No need to remove the seat to get to it, They are available on fleabay but as some of the seat is working I suspect its the heating element that's broken. By the time I'd sold my Superb all the elements had gone. They are not very robust.
  8. If you have the plugs out just fit a new set, cleaning modern plugs can be a waste of time.
  9. Tighten up the mounting first and see what its like to drive. 56k miles is very low for a flywheel failure.
  10. If the car is a 170 Elegance it should have voice control from new.
  11. Strange that you need both those parts, its usually just one or the other.
  12. The 170 is so much easier to tow with as the usable torque band is much wider. The 1.6 is ok but if it was me there is no contest. Shop around for fitted towbars most dealers get specialists to fit them anyway. Its no big deal anymore to fit the wiring and do the coding.
  13. I've just sold my 170 too! Fix was carried out a while back and had exactly the same fuel consumption afterward and if anything more responsive, It always did a lot between regens before and after as I do very little town driving. Discovered how different some people's driving is when a salesman took me for a spin in Dublin recently, lights, junctions. roundabouts etc etc 40 mins never above 50kph. To me that's a sad existence for any engine
  14. Yes that's my experience, local VW dealer says all 1.6 Passats and Skoda just wanted to sell Fabias. The Germans all were poverty spec to the extreme and the badge snobbery was too much for me. I looked into the UK import thing as I have a son in Scotland who went to see a few cars but nothing suitable around at the time. Getting one home would not have been a problem as he would drive it back. I think the last trip to the dealer put me off, shame as I've been a Skoda fan for so long, now I know why I never left them near my car before.
