  1. hey guys thanks for the help, last owner had 10/40 in it, i put 5W40 in there as im a low milage man and the engine feels a lot better for it!
  2. seen a leaflet for that dubshed this morning, thought it might be worth a look! still i dont think my key scratched octy estate would like so good along with all the rest of ur tuned motors lol
  3. Hello, i bought a service kit for my 02 1.8T 4x4 estate this morning from my local TPS, they sent me Quantum platinum 5W-40 oil. i had been expecting their synta 5W-30 oil. can any one confirm if the 5w 40 is the right oil or would i be better putting 5w-30 in! always dubious of putting the wrong grade oil in any car with a turbo!!! thanks Chris
  4. very useful pics Bowders! not sure id have the talent to fit the cold air kit looking at them, might just opt for a panel filter in the std airbox!! lol
  5. Hey Stevie, that link you posted for the cold air kit looks tempting!!! would there be much benefit to the engine fitting a kit like that, i was gonna go for a k&n Panel filter replacement but its about the same money as the ebay kit! id have her bought if i thought it would be a good job lol, bit harder to hide from the insurance accessor lol
  6. hey guys, just while ur are talking about the weak stock octy estate 4x4 suspension do you know anywhere in the uk that stock upgraded stuff?? mine has 110k on the clock now and i can almost swaps seats on a twisty road its that soft!!! havent had much luck sourcing a suspension kit online except if i buy from the eu, which i wouldnt want to do!!
  7. sounds like ur not a fan of the 4x4 then lol!!! i bought mine of a guy who had parked it for almost 3 years for £380 so ill take the poor stats lol! fuel economy is shocking ive found, ive an old 6cyl 3 series too and its only slighlty worse per gal!! the octy is very rolly in the corners tho, maybe one day i can get the funds scrapped together for an upgraded suspension kit for her. if im honest tho i think the estates a better looking car in the octavia range IMO. Love to get her remapped too, again thats in the to-do pile lol!!!
  8. Hey guys, out of interest some of you mentioned panel filters, im thinking of putting one in my 1.8t 4x4 but wasnt sure which manufacturer (k&n, BMW etc) to put in. just wondering wot sort of results yas had got with the panel filters. i know they dont mate a huge difference but i alwasy found green filters made the nicest induction noise in my other cars!!!
  9. thats a pretty handy link btw! i saved the pics for when i can get under the car! a goods heads up tho theres also i diagram with a wee walk thro, just have to see if im brave enuff to attempt it meself! lol
  10. thanks for the replys! sounds like i better get it done ASAP!! im not sure if it has ever been done, the car did have a regular dealer service up until 70k or so so hopefully they have done it at least once, the service manual i have says it should be done every 30k. ive contacted the local skoda dealer to see wot the charge and if the even know how to do it lol. looking on ebay there i found a vw haldex service kit listed with the follow numbers: Haldex oil filter 02D 525 558A Drain plug 02D 525 729 Haldex oil G 052 175 A1 (275 ml tube) Haldex Filter Tool: (VW TOOL PART NO T10066 REF ONLY). im gonna call my local TPS center and see if these are suitable for the octavia too. i had the fault codes checekd but nothing was coming up and theres no warning lights displayed, it was however just a basic code reader so perhaps a better more professional system mite give me a better picture. as far as i know the dump valve is just a standard part, it seems to be well buried behind the engine and i cant get a good look at it!!! i noticed today a bit of a flat spot around 3000 rpm could be connected perhaps???
  11. Hey Every1! this is a great site, so glad google led me to it! bought my first skoda back in january, 2001 octavia estate 4x4 and havent looked back since! before i drove it i wouldnt have even considered a skoda, total convert now tho!!! ive plenty of questions so ill be picking your brians if yas dont mind!!! Chris
  12. Hi Guys!!! im new to the forum this weeked but have to say its full of excellent info! (just finished reading up on how to clean my throttle body!) i bought an 2001 octavia 4x4 back in january, it had been lying up for about 2 years!! was in good nick tho and passed mot with very little work (oil service, timing belt and brakes) running very well in general. 2 things id like to pick all your brains on tho!!! firstly i was reading the owners manual the other nite, it says the haldex clutch system should get an oil change every 30k, my car has 95kish and i doubt its ever had this changed, i got it with 92k on it after that 2 year period off road. does this need done?? secondly ive noticed a few times since ive owned it and its becoming more regular is that when pulling off from the lights the dump valve hisses and the car jerks a bit, it can do this if i pull of the lights hard or just normally, very frustrating at times, specially if the brides in the car!! its also done it a few times in as high as 3rd gear. is this a common fault with this model?? id be grateful for your help!!! Many Thanks Chris
