  1. Just had a good long chat with Al on the phone what a genuine decent bloke . Apologised for some of the issues raised and refunded the difference in the price on the air filter . Also guaranteed that documentation would be sent regarding the long life service to myself .Provided an honest explanation for the brake fluid issue stating the fluid could have been contaminated in the first instance . Regarding the credit card details these are destroyed for security however customer details ie invoices are retained .... I would not hestitate to take my car back to awsome after speaking to Al (if they will have me??) and like I said from the start the workmanship was first class . Kind Regards Dave
  2. Mat , If it was done in the first place by the vat registered garage I wouldn't have had to lol ... . I don't think the issue would be with setting the service interval which is just a remainder you can even buy a crude kit in argos ...... The issue would be what mileage is displayed on the odometer and when the last service was carried out .I could understand if you were altering the odometer which in itself would be a criminal offence And my warranty isn't with skoda so I'm safe if skoda are watching plus in this current economic climate do you really think that some bean counter from skoda uk reads every message on the Briskoda forum sign me up for that job please . I have no issues with Awsome just posting an honest appraisal of the experience I hope that everyone else can provide feedback on their experiences from other retailers so that people can make informed choices based on the reviews available . All the best Dave
  3. Awsome Al , Yes I do more than 25 Miles a day and my driving is a combination of all sorts of driving and have been on Variable for previous 4 years even though I usually get service done around 12 months leaves it as my choice . As you can see I have no issues around the quality of your workmanship this has been first class , all credit to the tech and certainly wouldn't suggest that the work wasn't carried out . The Car was left clean spotless and I can tell the difference with the new set of plugs . The issues I have identified and will cause me a problem if I have a warranty claim is that Fixed service has been plastered in my service book , on my window and I expressly said to keep on variable . I don't dipsute that you have used longlife oil but at this present time I have nothing in writing in the service book or on the invoice to state what oild has been used . I envisage that should I have to make an warranty claim and go over the 12 months service shedule or the specified 10000 miles that the warranty company company would : a) ask for a copy of the service book ask for the invoice . And should I exceed the stated times or mileage reject the claim .I understand that advice can be given to customers but why have you gone against my wishes when I said variable on 4 or 5 occasions . You can rectify this by sending out confirmation that it was a long life service , the oil that was used and a new service remainder sticker . The pollen filter that I was quoted £15.00 and charged £25.00 please just send me a cheque for the difference with the service confirmation . Brake fluid boiling test was 210 degrees on checking in front of me so like I said was done 2 months ago so can't understand why it would have 3% water in and would need changing . The service indicator wasn't set but I have rectified this with my vag com . Kind regards Dave
  4. Ummmmm .... £11.11 for a genuine air filter from Skoda main dealer . Now that decides it for me charge £117 for a service and double the price on oem extras . Try and take £50.00 for a brake fluid service that was done 2 months prior. Specify long life service and stamp in service book that service is due in 12 months , sticker in car 12 months 10000 miles . Explicitly stated variable . Awsome did state that vw latest guidelines were against the variable for less than 20000 miles pa . Spoke to Skoda today customer services and explained that I do 12000 miles pa and they stated that variable was fine . Awsome stated that they were draining oil with lumps out of it on variable . Awsome cut the bull as the work is first class no need for the constant sales pitch . A refund for the overpriced air filter wouldn't go a miss you have my card details and phone number . I will keep u all posted .
  5. Yes alright been ripped off on the pollen filter maybe a way to make up on the service charge . Charge 150% more for parts . They did initially tell me 15 pounds for the pollen filter and then charged me 25 . Rang back to question price and they said that 15 pounds was an estimate . Come on !! Now I know why awsome so against variable servicing more visits more money . Oh well learn't a lesson today .
  6. I hope they did just checked invoice and no mention of oil used was told that it would be quantum the same as vw use . Does anyone know about the 3%water content was I spun a yarn ? Seems like they wanted me to go on annual servicing though I thought variable was what it said dependant on driving style would adjust service times mileage etc .
  7. yes .... £99.00 service is oil filter and the few usual checks £149.00 service is oil air filters , check of pollen strip and clean brakes , tyres ,exhaust suspension checks but the caveat is that the car must be 3 years or older . To be honest liked the set up at Awsome and would probably use them again as dealer labour charges would be far higher should the car need anything else .
  8. Took the car to awsome and had the £117.00 service which included the plugs not bad ...... They did charge £25.00 for a pollen filter which was a little steep as most are around £10.00 on euro car parts . They said that the brake fluid needed changing as it had 3% water in £49.99 to sort however was only changed 2 months ago . I took it back to the garage who undertook the brakefluid change and they carried out a temperature test in front of me and it passed well exceeding the tolerences .Couldn't understand that one ?? I said that I wanted to remain on the variable servicing but awsome have put me on the fixed in my service book that potentially causes a problem with my aftermarket warranty should I exceed the time .However John at awsome has stated that he will rectify this by sending me a letter to specify that service was done to variable spec..... I usually service it anually but least it gives me the option . Service indicator was not set and showed the same amount of time and mileage left before I took it in for the service . Easy rectification with my vag com . WIth this though it took two attempts to reset so could be an issue with the car not mating up with the system first go . On conclusion the staff were very helpful informative and the tech was very professional looking after my car in his hands and doing an excellent job , seems like the £117.00 offer is a good way to drum up business from non local people . My local skoda dealer charges £99.00 for basic service and £149.00 for more comprehensive service for 3 year + cars . So i I feel that the £117.00 is pitched about right . Loved the set up at awsome the viewing area sky tv etc and will probably use them next time unless the prices go back up . Thanks Awsome !!
  9. Out of interest how old is your car . Mine just out of warranty 29,000 miles 3.5years old dropped its fluid from one shock . Full skoda dealer service history . Skoda wouldn't pay . £250.00 fully fitted for pair at skoda . Shocks were only about £90.00 labour was the rest . Interesting that the new shocks were gas !!!! Quite dissapointed with skoda in rejecting claim for so little mileage .....
  10. Well had a nosy today and pulled the front of the engine cover off its two rubber bungs . Do I have to disonnect it from the front airtake that is screwed on . I don't mind that but there is a large pipe at the rea of the engine cover which looks attatched . Will this need to come off . Has anyone got any photo instuctions . Kind Regards Dave
  11. What I want is almost immaterial. I am ex-Department of Transport and investigated fatalities involving aftermarket products and that is a large part of my opposition to aftermarket tuning. Then working with another government department I did a BSc (2-1 Hons) majoring in thermo-dynamics. I also worked with one of “tuning houses” for one of my work placements on one of my degree courses. We had this sort of clamp down on tuning parts with motorcycles a few years ago (enforced by the UK police) and I expect by a combination of EU legislation and enforcement and the fact that the manufacturers will provide all the on road performance you could possibly want “of the shelf”, then the aftermarket tuning industry will be forced to change to a “track only” mods. It is the way things are headed inexorably. :( What a complete bore !!!!! Ministry , Vosa , DOT who cares . Individuals have a right to mod their own vehicles as long as they inform there insurance companies . I would like to see how a remap adds to the govenments KSI (Killed Serious Injured) figures . Please get in the real world as your talking complete nonsense and scaremongering . I have examined numerous vehicles in my proffesion and have never come accross a Road traffic collision let alone a fatality involving aftermarket products certainly not a performance remap . Most accidents are caused by driver error sometimes caused by drink or drugs or a combination of both and very occasionally dangerous parts ie tyres devoid of tread etc . I also ride a motorcycle with nearly 200bhp at the rear wheel which can be used on the track or road . I suppose you would have that banned aswell !! Enjoy your life and let others enjoy theirs to .
  12. Hi , I've got a 06 Petrol VRS Octavia its done 35,000 miles . I've just had the cam belt and water pump done and was looking at Changing the Plugs . As I understand it they are Platinum and the stealers after taking £450.00 from me wanted to charge £80.00 just for the plugs (No Labour) . I feel like having a go myself has anyone done it themselves . What plugs are required does anyone know the part codes and how much they should be . How do you get the engine cover off . They haven't done a Haynes manual yet have they ?? Cheers Dave
  13. Mate had the airbag light come on on mine . Bought a vag com for £65.00 from ebay cleared the light . Did keep coming back on a day ot two after clearing the code . Understood that the Octavia's have problems with airbag wiring under seat . I unbolted the seats fiddled with the wiring . Reset the light and 3 months later light still has not come back on . If you are near to Crewe area I will reset you the light .
  14. Let us know how you get on with the lights . Might book mine in next week to sort out the airbag light . Its off at the moment touch wood .
  15. Has anyone seen the deal they have on at Morrisons at the moment for Havoline oil . Half Price . £9.00 for Five litres of 5-30 Fully Sythetic that meets fords standards . However only seem to sell in 1 litre bottles the Havoline V 5-30 Fully Synthetic for VW Skoda audi etc 504/507 . This works out £3.99 so less than £20.00 for 5 litres . Shame I can't seem to get the vw stuff in 5 litres for £9.00 otherwise I would have bought loads of the stuff . Does anyone reckon you could use the ford 5-30 . I bet the oil is more or less the same ?? What does everyone think ??
  16. Had my cam belt just done 34000 miles . Four years old Octavia VRS 2.0 TFSI £450.00 with water pump and for that obviously collant change at Mitchell Skoda , Cheshire Oaks (No service) . Could have paid £300.00 at Independant but thought I'd pay extra for genuine and guaranteed for two years . Your price seems good though .
  17. Got the code reader . I can't believe it the code is for the Drivers side air bag airbag not now the fron passenger side as the dealer now said . I am not going to name and shame the Independant yet !! but seems that they are trying to take me for a ride . Seems like they haven't fixed the wire under the seat properly . I have deleted the code for now but it seems to come back on after a few days . I spoke to Local Skoda garage over the phone and they said from what i described to them that they would remove the drivers seat . Take out the airbag wiring from a 98p plastic plug and then resolder the airbag wire .Cost to do £90.00 Don't know what the idependant has done probably just reset the light ?? Any views anyone else have the same issues or no what the fix is . The code reader is a Maxscan vag405 £65.00 delivered from ebay fantastic bit of kit .
  18. No problem with the car just seems a characteristic of the car over the winter to use more oil . Probably a lot due to the emulsification . Seems after research that this is more common on the earlier vrs engines . Please bear in mine the exceptionally cold wether we had down to around -7 or more during the cold spells that take an exceptional toll on the engine and the engine not warming up to temp.Usage of oil in warmer weather has gone right down . Nice to see newbie that you check your oil every week but even still when an oil change is done by the dealers it is only filled to half way between the min and max on the dipstick . Believe me it doesn't take a lot for the oil light to come on when dropping to minimum . I always carry a bottle of oil around with me . Not had to do on any other cars however none of the other cars have been a highly tuned 200bhp petrol turbo . Little bit presumptious to assume that the car is not looked after due to the oil light coming on once . The car is four years old and still looks and drives like new .So please feel free to continue to check your oil every week if it makes you feel better but believe me the car is so looked after my mrs says more than her ...
  19. Now the warmer weather has come . Well slightly warmer and more wet ... I have checked my car and over the past two weeks the emulsification has almost gone seems like back to normal again . So there we have it due to cold weather !!
  20. The price from dtd should be inclusive of all of that . Did he skoda dealer add the delivery charge on top ??
  21. Just an additional stealth tax and a method to make more money . In my mind if you are doing a vat free deal ethically the vat should be knocked off the on the road price and thats it . No additional delivery charge . The skoda way seems to be to add the delivery charge on top of the listed price before vat and then sting you with the delivery charge that is grossly inflated .Just my opinion .
  22. Yes let me know please . I'm thinking of maybe getting a vag com code reader or similar to read the codes . Mine's only got 34000 miles on and drive's like a dream .
  23. Gadgetman is it to late to jump in and order one . If not can you can you send me a price and details so that I can pay via cheque . Kind Regards Dave
  24. Hi there , I took my car to a idependant in January 2010 to have a airbag light sorted . Soldered f/o/s/ wiring under seat . Light came back on today 18/03/10 so I took to the same indie . They stated that it was the f/n/s seat now that nedded soldering . They reset the light and driving it out the engine management light has come on and the car stalled . I limped it back to them and they reset this and they stated that it was something to do with the throttle sensor £460.00 to fix ???? and the eml is now on and won't go off Seems strange that it went in for a air bag light and came out with an engine management light and a big bill . I only had the cam belt done last week at main dealers for £450.00 with water pump and they said nothing of any fault codes does anyone have any ideas . Engine management light now gone off today 19/03/10 drives ok ?? 2006 vrs octavia petrol :wonder:
