  1. Thanks mate for the quick response. I bloody new it, i tried long nose pliers, which where just not long enough, typical. So see the bolt does that go all the way through the subframe, or can you get up the inside of it from underneath(if you know what i mean). And is the new type bushes the one with the groove that the rubber bush sits in. I think in all honesty he is going to take it too a garage tommorow, but i just dont want them ripping him off, stating that the re threading business is going to be a bigger job than it actually is. Paul
  2. Bloody seething folks. My Dad has a 54 plate octavia TDI. We attempted his front Anti roll bar bushes earlier today, and could we get them in, could we stuff. We where beginning to think that they where the wrong bushes that he was given from Skoda, but they done the part through his reg plate. I used a G clamp and we could get the bolt to which was looking like it was starting to thread in. However we could not get the angle. So we put the old bush in, and it appears that the thread is stripped, which i actually thought from taking over from my old man. So how do mechanics make this job so easy, what tools do they use. Also, now that it is potentially stripped, what are the options now, what is required for rethreading it, can it be done easily by a garage. Help and advice would be appreciated,Help Cheers Paul
  3. Did not think there ever where as many as 40 hot hatches, but i suppose it depends on what they class as a hot hatch. Paul:thumbup:
  4. Got a huge shock today. All this talk of remaps ect got me thinking that i had better contact Elephant to get some info on prices ect. The questions they asked where 1- who fits the remap(is it skoda) 2-what percentage does it increase power 3-does it increase BHP 4-why do you want to remap/or tune it as they said. 5- Yes we will cover you, but its gona cost you an extra 200 quid, with 9 months of my policy to run. i only paid 260 for the years insurance and they want a further 200 notes. This was all based on a power increase of 20% I think on pure principle i will have to put the remap on hold until my insurance is due for renewal. Sad sad day Paul:thumbup:
  5. Good point ma man. Will speak to them this week hopefully and take it from there. Paul:thumbup:
  6. Just noticed your location there mate. Over in Carluke myself, not in with the bricks though, just moved a couple of years ago, Wishy man, born and bread. I seen that in the post from Kenny in the Jabba section of the forum. Paul
  7. Oh right. Think i need to read a bit more about this system. Cheers Paul:thumbup:
  8. Just outside Glasgow mate, 1 mile of the M74 to be exact. Yeh i know Star have done a fair few remaps for some of the peeps on here. Done a rolling road day with my Scoob with Jim up at star. Star would probably be one of my first choices, however i am intending to go down to Bedrock Veedubs in Motherwell at some point next week, as i understand they are Jabba agents. Paul:thumbup:
  9. Just wondering how many scottish members we have on here with Fabia VRSs. Reason i am asking, was looking at the thread below about a possible group buy for the remap down south. It has given me an idea. I am now seriously thinking about a remap. Just cannot make my mind up which route to take, there are so many choices. But i suppose if there where enough scottish owners interested in a remap for there VRS, we could also try and strike a group buy/discount on a remap with one of the various tuners up this neck of the woods. I will see what feedback i get from this post, then we will take it from there. Paul:thumbup:
  10. How far down south are we talking here. I live in scotland. I maybe interested, but would depend on fuel costs whether it would be worth my while. I will keep an eye on this however. Paul.
  11. Nothing comes close in the 200bhp stakes than the CTRs brakes. I never once felt fade on B road blasts in the CTR, unlike my 182 and WRX. As for my VRS i feel the brakes are a tad on the soft side. I personally dont really think they would stand too much punishment and would fade pretty quickly on a remapped Fabia VRS. Although a suppose some DOT 5 fluid and some braded hoses would sort it out enough to live with. As for remapping, i remapped my scoob from its standard 225 to 280 similar torque levels and its a fact that the brakes where not up to the job. The standard brakes on the WRX where never great, but around Knockhill i could clock 7-8 laps with the car standard. Just after i had it remapped i was managing 2-3 laps before i had complete brake fade and had to return to the pits. So whats been said above. Yes with extra power you do travel faster from point to point, more power, more speed and more brakes required. As for suspension i suppose this all comes down to driving style at the end of the day. You only have to push it as hard as you feel comfortable with, so you could live with standard suspension on a remapped VRS. I am toying with the idea of a remap myself for the VRS, but this has been my only niggle, suspension and brakes, as i do not have the funds for the lot. Although i may do what i stated above and change the fluid and try some braded hoses. Paul
  12. Nice Chariot. I sold my 182 with cup packs just under a year ago. Have to say on track the 182 excelled, it suppassed the CTR and WRX for sheer out and out fun. Never timed any sessions round Knockhill, but i would have put money on it being quicker than the CTR and WRX. My reason for getting rid was soley based on build quality. It squeaked and rattled from the day i drove it from the dealership, the cig lighter fell to bits after a couple of weeks, the engine management light was popping on and off regularly, the temp and fuel guage moved with every bend you took, the engine mount was cracking like a good un. So after 4 short months and around 7 visits to the dealership i had to give up, as my thoughts where, if this is what its like after 3 months whats it going to be like a year down the line. But as i said, dont get me wrong, the performance was outstanding, did not matter how far you pushed the car in a bend, it would stick like glue. The chassis, engine, steering feel where all superb, one of the best. But without the build quality it kinda just ruined the experience for me. Others however have ran 172s for two to three years hassle free motoring, so maybe i was just unlucky. Good luck with it anyway, you will have fun. Just buy a loud stereo Paul
  13. Again guys all comes down to driving experience and ability. I have previously been in cars as said above, CTRs 182 and have had guys in less competent cars keep tail with me, obiviously there driving skills(or bottle) exceeded mines, and in the furby to date i have kept and outpaced superior motors, again maybe down to my driving skill and ability. So anything is possible in the right hands Paul
  14. Yeh if i was going down that route of remap, Star where going to be my first port of call. But from reading on www.dastek.co.uk the plug and play seems pretty impressive. Although as Big W stated a custom remap is only a tad more expensive, but if this can do what it states it can, it may not be a bad idea. One of the things that is appealing is the fact it can be removed quickly. I will be speaking to Paul At Dastek again to get some more info. But from what it states on the site, its not just fueling thats altered, boost pressure ect are also taken into account. Paul
  15. Mate i dont think you will be dissapointed. I have came from 2x CTRs/182/WRX and i can honestly say hand on my heart that i am not dissapointed with the VRS handling. Yes as said its not as tight as a hot hatch the likes of 182 and CTRs, it has more body roll, but it is a potent weapon on B roads. You can still cover ground at a very fast rate(well i can) and it seems to stick pretty well. I am actually enjoying the softer ride compared to my previous teeth rattlers that i had. As said its a nice compromise between to hard and too soft. As for a track weapon, the jury is still out on that one for me at present. Maybe at the beginning of next year mines will see Knockhill. But to be honest i aint expecting much on track with the standard set up. Go and enjoy anyway. Paul
