  1. I've tried Nexan N Feru SU1and Goodyear F2. Both good tyres but Goodyear's seem to be heavy on fuel.
  2. Not a difficult job, did mine a couple of weeks ago. However the Haynes manual says you have to remove the bumper and remove the whole headlight. That's nonsense, just remove the cover and twist the bulb holder, just remember to wear gloves when refitting the new bulb.
  3. It's a short cct in the wiring somwhere. It now blows the fuse as soon as it's put in.
  4. Have a look for a local specialist. I had mine done last summer, both cambelt and water pump for just over £300.
  5. Do the electric mirrors work? I've had a similar problem, broken wire in the the drivers door loom under the grommet. I now have another problem passenger side windows blow the fuse, could also be a broken wire in the grommet.
  6. Thanks, I'll give that a try. The fuse is actually 25amp. Cheers, Colin
  7. Sorry, made a slight error the fuse is SB52 that blows. Central locking works ok! Cheers, Colin
  8. Hello! the most important thing is the timing belt, it should be changed every 4 years although it doesn't state that in the owners guide. The Fabia has an interference engine so a broken belt causes untold damage to the engine. It's probably best to find a local Skoda specialist, I had the belt changed on my diesel estate in the summer. Local specialist was £100 cheaper than main dealer. It is possible to diy, but the engine mounting has to be removed and the engine supported whilst the belt is removed and replaced. Special tool is bolted across the top suspension mounts to support the engine, without this tool you have to use a jack on the sump. Personally I would perform a major service as recommended in the service book, Haynes do a comprehensive manual for the Fabia is about £15 in Halfords. Hope this helps, Colin
  9. I had a similar problem on my 2009 estate, the fix was to replace a faulty sensor. Dealer did charge about £100 to fix the problem. Cheers, Colin
  10. Hello! My 2009 Fabia 3 1.4 tdi estate has developed a problem. The passenger side electric windows keep blowing fuse 58, if I change the fuse the windows work for a few days then the fuse pops again. I'm a bit concerned as the fuse is rated at 25 amps. Has anyone else had a similar problem? Cheers, Colin
  11. Eventually took it to a local specialist. The control switch is the problem. So hopefully it will be back tomorrow, fixed.
  12. Thanks I'll give that a try when the rain stops.
  13. Thanks for the info. Any idea how to check them without removing from car.
  14. Hello! I have a problem with the cruise control on my 2009 1.4 tdi estate. It has worked fine until this week, now it won't work at all. I have checked the fuse and it's not that. I have been looking at these diagnostic scanners to hopefully help with the problem: Tofern Vgate VS450 Blusmart OBD Diagnostic tool Professional Super VAG505 Foxwell DIY Home use scanner Autool Xtool VAG401 Does anyone know if they are any good or should I just take the car to a dealer? Cheers
  15. Hello All! Had a strange happening with my Fabia 3 Estate. A couple of years ago the electric windows stopped working this was found to be a broken wire, which I had repaired. However on Saturday morning last, the windows stopped working again. So I thought wire broken again, I had been on holiday in France and the weather had been extremely hot. Anyway the windows stopped working, as we left to come home (sod's law). We had to open the doors at passport control etc. Anyway we had climate control so no real problem and everything seemed to be working. So I thought have a look when I get home. Still no joy Sunday morning, and then Sunday afternoon there was a click from the nearside front door and the windows started working again! Anyone else had a similar experience? Cheers!
  16. Hello! I have just noticed a noise like a fog horn, it's not very loud and only seems to be there when the engine is cold and ticking over. The car is a Fabia 3 Estate 1.4 TDI. Has anyone a clue if I should be worried about it, it's a 59 plate with 37k on the clock. Cheers,
  17. Check the wiring in the the door jam. I had the problem 18 months ago, it was broken wire under the rubber boot in the offside door jam. Made a temporary fix with a choc strip, took it to a local auto-electrician and got it fixed for £35. I now keep the window lock on, so that the switch illuminates, if the light goes off then the wire is broken again Cheers
  18. Anyone else had problems with parking sensors. The ones on my Fabia 3 Estate work fine in the morning, but as the temperature warms up they fail. Put the car into reverse the display comes on and the bleep sounds then after about 15 secs the display clears and a 5 secs bleep sounds. The handbook says visit a specialist, that sounds expensive.
  19. George, My car has done 28k, it was the service manager I dealt with. Colin
  20. Just had my 4 year old Estate serviced and MOT'd by the main dealer today, he mentioned nothing about a cam belt change. Cheers!
  21. Cam belt changing, is a very grey area, some say change after 4 years, the manual doesn't give a time just a mileage. The mileage works out at 6 years, however I understand that Skoda use Continental Belts, and Continental say the belt should last the life of the engine. I've seen in an earlier thread that Skoda issued a service note to say change after 4 years, if that is so why does it not say it in the manual of my 2009 Fabia Estate. Also the Elsawin manual just gives a mileage, it also gives a prediction of when to change the belt. I do about 7K per year my prediction is 2031, so make of it what you will! Cheers,
  22. Can Anyone explain to me, why 4 years. I bought my Fabia 3 1.4 tdi estate new in 2009. The hand book says 120,000km, it doesn't give a time. I understand that the belts fitted are made by Continental, here is an excerpt from Continentals website written in 2009 "Already today maintenance intervals have become a thing of the past for the 1.0 to 1.6-l petrol engines in the Volkswagen Lupo, Polo and Golf as well as in the corporation’s Skoda and Seat model lines. Nor is it normally necessary to change the timing belt on the Audi TDI engines with the common-rail injection system. In all timing belt drive development projects currently under way, the belt is standardly designed to hold out for the life of the engine." In view of this and the improvements in technology since 2009, why 4 years? The cost of getting the job done is £299 from my dealer, £275 form in independent around £100 to buy the parts for DIY. I bought an Elsawin Manual for my Fabia to show my how to do the job, when I put my vehicle detail into the Maintenance notes section it projected a change of cambelt in 2031 Cheers
  23. I was wondering if Redex diesel Advanced fuel system cleaner is safe to use in my Fabia 3 estate. I have read that you should floor the pedal at least twice a week to keep the injectors clean. It says in the manual that you should not use any fuel additives, why? Cheers!!!
  24. Hello! Deciding on which tyres is a real nightmare! Some manufacturers don't make the size you need. For example: Continental Sportcontact 5, they don't make a 205/40 17 84W you would have to go for Sportcontact 3. Tyre reviews give conflicting results. It's really pot luck, I've been looking for tyres for my estate (205/45 16 83W), most poster's say Michelin's are the best, great but they only do the Pilot Sport 3 in my size @ £130 per tyre. Also since your tyres are speed rating w = 168mph, you cannot fit rating v = 150mph even though your car may not be capable of exceeding 120mph. Because the manufacturer has fitted W rating fitting a lower rating invalidates your insurance. I plumped for Continental PremiumContact 2 (£98) as they no longer make the SportContact 2 as fitted and SportContact 3 are not made in my size. I just thought better the devil you know, and it would be the manufacturers standard fitment now, on my car. I read somewhere that 75% of all new cars made in Europe are fitted with Continental tyres. Cheers!
