  1. Just noticed that my 2010 1.8tsi SE Estate (not maxidot) both the ave mpg and current mpg figures are reading completely randomly when moving. When stationery with engine turned off the ave mpg figure just shows three dashes and a slashed zero. All other readings appear normal. Being an old codger who, for no real reason at all, habitually notes fuel bought and mileage in a book I don't look at the ave mpg readout very much or take any notice of it. Just wondering if the cause is something to do with a flow sensor or a maybe a software fault? TBH don't want to spend a lot fixing it if it's unnecessary . Thanks for any ideas,
  2. I have a 1.8tsi dsg (7 speed) registered Jan 09 which has only covered 12,000 miles. As the car is out of warranty and the dealer, who was originally a 20 minute walk from home, has since moved several miles away to an isolated trading estate I recently had a oil change etc., at a handy independent. As I'd noticed at times the transmission at slow speeds didn't seem as smooth as it was, they checked for error codes and came up with the following- No faults in transmission ecu Engine electronics 49409 U0101 transmission ecu no communication – sporadic Diagnostic interface for data – bus 1315 gearbox control unit no communication – sporadic Although the car driving ok at present they suggested checking with Skoda to see if any recalls etc., Wonder if anybody has similar faults recorded and if idea what the above effectively means? Thanks
  3. I got one from here http://stores.ebay.co.uk/rearguard-2011/_i.html?_nkw=skoda+octavia&submit=Search&_sid=877393759 Very light but does the job for normal domestic stuff, wouldn't do for regularly moving of paving slabs etc! Cheers
  4. My 1.8tsi also seems to take an age to warm up compared to my previous Subaru Forester - the local dealer stated the time honoured "They are all like that, sir"
  5. Thanks guys for the replies and will have another go at the dealer about resetting sensitivity Cheers
  6. Afternoon all, I have a Jan 2010 1.8tsi SE dsg estate and am having a problem with the alarm going off very intermittently. The last time was yesterday in our driveway where the car has been sitting for 4 days without being used. It has been back once to the suppliers, Caffyns Tonbridge, who advised the log showed a previous occurrence as 'drivers door not properly shut' and no other faults. I wasn't convinced about the door not being shut but you never know of course. I also asked for the sensitivity to be turned down but was told this is not possible. I have since read on other threads that it is possible to adjust the sensitivity so before taking up the cudgels with Caffyns is this just dealers ignorance or simply that they do not have the right equipment which strange as assume they all would have the same diagnostic box of tricks? (I don't really want to go to another dealer for a simple job as Caffyns are very convenient for me.) Also it may be imagination but on the last two occasions when rushing out to the front door to turn the alarm off I have had the impression that nearby neighbours have just locked/unlocked their cars. Not really certain about that and don't see that this should be an issue. Any thoughts appreciated. Cheers
  7. We had one fitted to our '09 Estate, I thought at the time it was a tad expensive but SWMBO was keen however she now admits a bit disappointed as it is quite small compared to our previous Subaru Forester 's moonroof which more of a square shape and in winter, with the sunshade pushed back and roof closed, gave a much lighter and more airy feeling than the Octavia's. The Octavia's however is quieter when open at moderate speeds and nicely made. Whether its worth it probably depends on if you spend a lot of time on motorways when it's not much use however if you spend more time on rural roads, like we retired folk, then it can be very pleasant. However to be honest if we ordered another Octavia then the answer is we probably wouldn't bother with a sunroof.
  8. Just popped out to look at our 59 SE with sun shining across the rear door, which not shiny as covered in dust, and sorry to say as far as can see no dints in either the bit between the bottom of the window and the number plat swage or the bit below that down to the lip of the door.
  9. Thanks guys, Yes there was a frost of abt -3 C last night but there have been colder ones before - none of the tangs seemed damaged and can't budge it by hand. If it happens again I'll either leave it off and take it back to the dealers (which maybe I should have done anyway) or put it back with a splodge of silicon goo or similar . Not a big deal but slightly surprising all the same - this is my first Skoda so hoping the rest of the car not similarly clipped together! Cheers
  10. :wonder: Found an odd shape piece of plastic near our new FL Estate parked in our driveway. On examination I saw it had the Skoda name and part nos. embossed on underside and after a careful look around eventually saw the b.........g obvious that it was the trim that covers the leading edge of the roof rail on the drivers side but seems to have clipped back in place ok. There are no signs of anyone forcing it off so I'm puzzled why it should have happened on a nearly new car and wonder if it is a known fault - maybe it's worth mentioning to the dealer in case it falls off again and is lost?
  11. Tks Previous car Subaru Forester halogens upgraded to extremes but to be honest didn't notice huge improvement on standard bulbs Ciao
  12. Morning all, I have a new Estate 1.8tsi SE dsg and altho' have only covered less than 200 miles I have a couple of questions- A. The low beam headlight performance (halogen) seems to me a bit disappointing as compared to my previous car– is there any point in fitting say Philips Extreme bulbs or is the problem more in the basic design of the optics? B. What does the embedded element in the o/s rearmost side window do? The n/s window is plain so I wonder if it is some form of aerial altho' the car has the usual roof aerial? Thanks for any thoughts Cheers Mike
  13. It's finally arrived – our Octavia Estate SE 1.8tsi DSG Corrida Red, sun roof, variable boot floor, steel spare wheel and small leather pack. Car ordered end of Sep and arrived at the dealers, Caffyns Tonbridge, last Friday and I collected it y'day afternoon. Our side road still iced up, and even worse this morning after some more snow, and must say the traction didn't seem very good possibly because I'm getting used to the DSG box and the Dunlop Sport 07 tyres very 'summery' with mainly longitudinal grooves but more likely it's because I'm used to a manual AWD Subaru Forester Turbo with Yoko Geolandar mild off-road tyres which pretty good in snow and ice. As its not worth very much I'm keeping the Forester for a bit and used it this morning rather than the shiny new one which tucked up in the garage. Anyway hopefully the snow and ice will disappear in the next few days when I can take some piccies and get to know it by actually driving around in it!
  14. Dealer phoned this afternoon full of enthusiam to say our Octavia Estate 1.8tsi SE DSG Corrida Red with vari boot floor, leather pack, full size spare and sunroof has just arrived. He seemed a bit taken aback when I said in no hurry to collect as prefer keep motoring in our trusty old Subaru Forester S Turbo as it's good in the present snowy condition and doesn't matter too much if we bend it!. We ordered ours on 25/09/09 – quoted build week 49- so thats 15 weeks from order to arrival at the dealers. We expect to collect it on Tues/Weds next week and will probably leave it in the drive if still poor weather as keeping the Foz until we decide what to do with it.
  15. Re Scoobys in the snow the following has been doing the rounds http://www.dumpert.nl/mediabase/746201/9aee8471/subaru_trekt_vrachtwagen_door_sneeuw.html
  16. I'm waiting for delivery of my Octy 1.8 tsi maybe this year or maybe next!. Here in W Kent we had a good fall y'day and my present 9 yr old Subaru Forester Turbo happily soldiering on and makes me wonder whether I will miss the AWD (no traction control or esp) in present snowy conditions - not that happens very often nowadays altho' we've had more snow in the last two years than several previous years put together! Actually it'll be interesting to compare the road performance of the old Forester and new Octy as the Forester 2 litre with a standard small turbo has a similar quoted power output to the 1.8tsi with abt 177 bhp and 245 nm as against 160 bhp @ and 250 nm for the Octy which is some 40 kg lighter kerb weight. Hopefully the Octy will improve on the Forester's 25 mpg running around or might do 30 on a run if I gramp it along and it likes Shell super petrol as well.
  17. I ordered my 1.8tsi SE dsg estate corrida red with a few extras including a sunroof on 25th Sep - originally given build week 48, then 49, then 50 and now it's almost week 52 and haven't heard anymore - not that I'm in any hurry and might as well wait until 2010.
  18. Our son who is in the REME recently returned after being in Bastion for 2 months and then in Musa Qaleh for 4 months - personal internet connection was not often available due pressure on system and of course mobiles not allowed but the bluey letters or better still e-blueys (sort of email https://www.ebluey.com ) work quite well. You can also send upto 2 kg of parcels (mainly home made cakes in our case!) foc via BFPO but you should get all that info before he leaves. Hope all goes well for him out there and for a safe return.
  19. Hi I ordered on 28/09/09 (quoted build date week 48) a 1.8tsi SE DSGg estate and have not specified esp so will let you know in due course what turns up - presumably I will know by a esp button somewhere as understand esp normally switchable? Cheers
  20. Thanks for all your welcomes and jocular comments- like being back at work if I can remember what that was! Re the DMF according to a well known trilby wearing ex-car trader/website proprietor/journo the DMF is fitted to petrol DSG's to ease the strain on the DSG? - (Don't you just love acronyms? Our son is in the army (REME!) and we need a crib sheet at times to understand what he's on about!) Having said that we are about to put a deposit down on a 1.8tsi DSG SE Estate with the optional extra leather steering wheel and level boot floor and wait for it, a sunshine roof, which we enjoy at slower speeds in rural areas where we spend the majority of our time. Colour wise quite like the Corrida Red which think it just about gets away with - if the car was any bigger think maybe would resemble a mini fire engine. Anyway makes a change from all the silver variants etc. and not too dark to need washing too often!
  21. Chance would be a fine thing! Missus only started receiving her oap last year I'm afraid - I did say I might trade her in for two 30 year olds and she gave me a knowing smile and muttered something which I couldnt quite make it out but the words silly and old and fool were in there somewhere....
  22. Mornin' all I'm a 67 year old plus slightly younger missus and we've decided it's time to change our 9 year old thinking hooligan's vehicle (Subaru Forester Turbo) and quite keen on an octy estate probably the 1.8tsi with the dsg box. My only slight worry is whether the petrol dsg's have a dmf as plenty of horror stories about these - on the other hand we only do around 5,000 miles pa so probably not something to get too worked up over. Skoda UK said they couldn't tell me unless I knew the chassis no. which I find to believe (don't they know what they are making?) so I wonder if anyone here can tell me which cars are fitted with a dmf?- thanks
