I've had the same thoughts with regard to my 1.9 TDI. However, logic got the better of me in that the £6k required for an upgrade would buy a lot of diesel even at the ridiculous price it's at now.

I have a factory fitted Dance radio and the info display has characters missing. This is only when you press the Info button to see what's playing. I reported it at the last service and have had the aerial base replaced but the problem persists. Has anyone else encountered this and, more importantly, is there a solution? I know it's not that important but the car comes out of warranty later this year and it would be nice to have it fixed before then.

OK, according to the computer I've less than 600 miles to go before the next service so how much can I expect to pay, please?

Thanks for the replies but I've already used the service plan for the last 2 services, plus £100 of Skoda vouchers. So, how much for the 40k service and any recommendations for somewhere local to Sheffield?

I have a '59 Fabia 2 1.9 TDi PD which is coming up for its 40,000 mile service. I've had a look on here but there's nothing specific to my model and mileage. So, what can I expect to have done and, more crucially, how much can I expect to pay? If there's anyone on here in or near Sheffield where would you recommend, if not the main dealer?

I had Skoda Assist come out this week as my off-side rear drum had seized and despite much rocking wouldn't free itself. The RAC man who turned up took a hammer and cold chisel to the rear wheel and gave the drum a tap. This did the trick and I'll use this method if it happens again.

If all else fails, write to both the consumer and motoring editors of one of the national newspapers, I have seen many a manufacturer or retailer give in when faced with the prospect of exposure to several hundred thousand readers. Which one you write to depends on your political bent and/or your intellect.

In this weather mine is taking about 10 minutes for any warm air to come through. Having said that, I do live on the ridge between 2 valleys and it's a long drop down in any of 3 directions so the engine doesn't start working straight away.

I normally get around 52 mpg on my commute of 30 miles but because of the snow and ice I'm using a longer, flatter route and getting 60 mpg. Swings and roundabouts, I suppose.

The idea is to flummox the would be thieves. The disc is obscured by the sucker on the bottom of the compass. It's one like this: Compass, which is hardly going to tempt a thief.

I've taken this out too and am looking to use the vouchers against any replacement parts which may be needed during any of the services.

If you read my post you'd see that I attach a compass to the disc when the satnav's not in use.

I have a Garmin which sticks to a disc that fixes to the top of the dash rather than the windscreen. I tend not to have it plugged in unless absolutely necessary plus the battery lasts for about 4 hours. I have a compass with a sucker on the bottom which I stick on the disc when the Garmin's not being used, this hides the fact that there may be a satnav about.

I'm glad it's not just me. My 1.9TDi's windscreen is constantly steaming up or fogging. I have to drive with the aircon and heaters on virtually all the time in damp weather.

You'd still need 2 services in 2 years so it's worth checking on the price for them.

I was thinking of one of these: Cool box. Has anybody got one or something similar?

I contacted Bickertons who gave me the following prices, roughly, which I would be facing over the next year or so. 20k service (incl filter) £210 30k service about £100 Oil change at 2 years £45 All these would be included in the £299 offer so it would appear even without the £100 of vouchers that I'd see a saving of £50+. Having already purchased the headlamp protectors and sun-glasses holder can anyone suggest something useful to buy for £100?

I think the offer is for 2 year's servicing or 20,000 miles which is 2 services for me: 20k & 30k. I'll check with Bickertons and get more detail.

I've got a 59 Fabia II 1.9 TDi (December 2009) which is just coming up to its 20,000 mile service so I've been looking at the threads where people have been giving their opinion on how much this should cost. It looks like it should be around the £210 mark. I paid £132 for the 10,000 mile service so the following offer looks like a bargain. My local Skoda dealer is quoting £299 for 2 years / 20,000 miles fixed interval services which includes a £100 voucher for any Skoda item from the dealer or the parts website. Is this a good deal or is there something I'm missing?

Saw a really silly one today. It was L888VE U which I'm guessing they hoped looked like LOOOVE U from a distance. Pillock

We've just come back from a trip to France, the Lot valley to be precise. I had a fairly light load but carried 2 bikes on the roof. We covered 1950 miles altogether of which 1700 was motorway/autoroute driving at speeds around 80mph going on for 90mph where conditions allowed. The trip computer showed 46mpg for the whole journey which I'm happy with given the way I drive.

I had rear mounted carriers for years but got fed up with the scratches on the boot, untangling the webbing, seeing the bikes sway precariously when going round bends and just generally feeling exposed and unhappy with them on the rear. I've had roof mounted carriers for over a year now and am really pleased. I can leave the cycle racks attached all year round and can have two bikes on, or off, in about 5 minutes flat. Plus, the racks lock onto the roof bars and onto the bikes.
