  1. Looking to do a few changes via vcds, ill end up buying one anyway as its handy and ill need it when I change to an amundsen as im not feeling the swing. Can you have things like mirrors tipping on reverse and coming home lights on a mk2 fabia vrs? ive seen a chap on youtube who did the mph digi speedo alarm beeps and hijack locks. Is thete any other popular tweeks you guys are doing too? Cheers
  2. OK guys we picked up the fabia yesterday, the moon white and black magic look great when clean and polished. So first off we put the child seats in non problem, loads of leg room for the kids. We did the paperwork and i got to drive it off the forecourt first, quick wave goodbye to the old blackline and we crept out onto the tar for its 29th mile and our first as a family. Even on the beaten Aberdeen industrial estate we were surprised at how smooth and quiet the wee car was. A few roundabouts in and it was time to test sports box, it was errrrm revvy-er?! Does it do anything other than stay in gear longer? Not deterred we nipped through the traffic and I found myself realy pleased how the car felt nicely planted and surefooted but keen and sharp to turn in. Its a real hoot on windy backroads ive tried so far. So after a **** about with the flappy paddles and a mock drag race with an unsuspecting rep mobile (litterally) we headed off to Costco to test the boot. 300 litres is almost golf territory but considering we left an octy mk2 estate for this it has been one of our worries. So Costco had 40 toilet rolls on offer and for the first time in along time I was concerened about the boot. Guys we filled a Costco trolley with all sorts of clobber including 6 litres of fairy and a gallon of comfort, 3 kilos of chicken nuggets and an extra lage pizza among other and it fit with room to spare easily. Shocked. So then it was the 100 mile jaunt home, im realy surprised how well it shifts for a wee car, a 1.4 no less. Wether it was passing cars using the paddles at 6 grand or flooring it off a roundabout to "seat the piston rings love" or just watching the gears change but not being able to hear or feel it i was impressed with whats under the bonnet. Even on our greasy roads I never once got the traction control light flashing giving it all it had off various roundabout, is the xds realy that good? Apparantly it is. My biggest gripe so far is the headlights, the whole solenoid idea is ridiculous, and they arent very bright but some better bulbs will help. Inside the cars everything works as it should other than just being a fancy phone charger im struggling to think.of the benefits of the mdi vs Bluetooth but hey ho, we only realised it had it 50 miles later. Its been washed twice in it 200 odd mile life and some time soon it will get a coat of armour all sheild to keep it mint. Already ordered the led number plate bulbs and going to order headlight bulbs and paddle extensions shortly too. Its equiped with the cthe lump up front and hopefully its got all the new gear on there like the breather and squirters and latest software. Its very fun and still practical enough, it looks cool and it shows a few big cars its heels. So far it fit right in with our family and we all love our new car. If anyones on tje fence like we were, take one out for a spin and try it out, thetes a very good chance youl like it.
  3. Anyone had experience with these bulbs? The philips seem to have some awards under the belt but had philips bulbs before that werent anything to shout about. Id like to improve the **** poor headlights on the mk2 fabia vrs. Looking for brighter and whiter but no cheapo ebay bulbs as ive had loads before they look nice but cant see ****.
  4. Your welcome but if it works were naming it after me lol.
  5. Dont go so low mate all the crap and crud willgo through the hole anf settle inside the arch, it will start corroding realy early. Just a thought could you not get a biscuit tin and heat the arch liner up till its soft with a hot air gun then press the biscuit tin into the softened platic and keep doing that until you form the liner where you want it? Might need multiple hot air guns and maybe not a biscuit tin but you get the idea. Id rather.try that first as once you cut that liner your committed.
  6. I pick up my new car in a few hours I am so stoked its unreal! New car has 20odd miles its a moon white 64 plate vrs with black magic and black guigaro rims. With regard to above comments I suppose you reap what you sow, if you want a vrs it comes with more cost than your tsi 1.2. Fuel Tax and tyres are more expensive but then its got bigger wheels and 180bhp so obviously it does. I know they are both fabias but its apples to oranges after that. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and its realy up to you what tickles your fancy. A cheaper to run car or the cost that comes with something quicker. To give some perspective though, my audi uses b7 rs4 brakes, go and see how much a set of front pads and disks cost, I get cold sweats thinking about it. Or 7 litres of millers nanodrive? Or adding the cost of a 50% mix of methanol to you tank of momentum, and you need lots of momentum lol. Or the fact its option a, front end off or option b, front end off and engine and box out to do pretty much everything. Or the fact that theres 2 turbos if one decides to crap itself, you change both. After owning an s4 £12 tax and £80 a tyre is a breath of fresh air for some of us, so I dont think vrs ownership is all that bad just need to see the big picture.
  7. In the garage we used to use neat screenwash concentrate and wipe the blades clean it worked a treat. Be aware that different brand screen washes can cause squeaks and judders, different strength mixes can too.
  8. What about warranty sharkrider im a chicken**** when it comes to warranty tje idea of voiding it for any reason makes me queasy. Ice got h&r arbs and coilovers on my other car, they make decent stuff if a little firm though. Do they handle well these fabias?
  9. Theres definetly something not right but im not so sure that it will be as easy as changing a mechanical part. You cant say its poor quality or tolerances when most cars are good but some are bad and the parts come from The same factory, couple that with the fact there are cars running a lower power map that dont share the issues and the fact there seems to ve a direct correlation between how a cars is used and the oil it uses. Its pretty obvious whatever causes the problem is there on all cars but its the vehicles use that matters in most cases. Now I used to work in an alfa dealer, long story short that very expensive seleium fully synthetic oil you got billed for wasnt realy what you got. You did get good oil but not what you thought. Whos to say that all dealers are putting in whats meant to go in? Not just 10w40 semi from the pumps? Its obviously an inherrent issue that vw cant get a sensible fix to suit all owners, they probably know that getting them realy hot helps but thats not easy for alot of owners and the dsg probably amplifies the issue by changing up quickly. They cant tell us all to thrash the cars, because the rings seat better. The oil squirter thing may work, but its not realy the issue, the issue is probably multiple things to do with how the car is setup and show its self when certain conditions are met. If a driver in his own unique way meets too many conditions its going to **** up. If you dont then you are probably ok. Just my thoughts.
  10. Pick the new vrs up tomorrow, 64reg mk2 fabia vrs. Realy excited actually. Been looking to put a few personal touches on her. Fancying some led number plate bulbs and some of those carbon fibre flappy paddle extensions on ebay. Could anyone point me in the direction of which ones will fit my car? Also any suggestions for common mods you guys do that wont mess up the warranty, bit soon to get the milltek and shark map ordered up lol.
  11. Pistonheads isnt even a forum im a member of far less frequent, but doing a bit of digging on the vrs I found some threads I browsed and the comments were pretty bad. But agreed none made real sense and probably came from butt hurt old mondeo drivers.
  12. Its just a shame because I bumped into several threads mostly on pistonheads and they ripped the wee fabia vrs apart for everything from its looks to the dsg and the engine. But the same bunch of people would say different thing about other cars that are auto only. I suppose some people are just full of ****. Re the s4, yeah I dont expect the fabia to provide those kind of thrills but the s4 is certainly not a car you can nip about the town in, and certainly not boosting it, besides its dead for now until I get the new engine together so ive got some time to get accustomed to the fabia.
  13. Hahaha id hoped that was the case!! Why is people seem cool with the fact the gtr has a auto box and thats one of the reasons its so quick (other than the obvious) but when it comes to the fabia people slate it and call it all sorts and poopoo it for not being manual and diesel like the mk1 etc etc, its a 1.4 and holds down the bigger cars in its class and thats not good enough for some?!
  14. I realy hope ours runs as good as you guys ones do. Gutted ill need to leave her standard for a while though, id love a cheeky wee shark map on it but warranty is more important. How do they compare in terms corsa vxr and renault sport clio etc as in both cars flat out off your favorite roundabout? I also own a 450bhp+ b5s4 im actually builfimg a new forged lump and hoping 550+, these cars are gtr killers with the roght mods but that gtr box is just so slick the old b5 looses so much time changing gear. Will the dsg and better power curve keep the fabia infront of the renaults and corsas?
  15. Thanks guys im realy excited about the car but your right theres so many horror stories its enough to pee on anyones bonfire. The price is more than others we saw vut its a skoda approved used, and has the least miles, still had the wrappers on litterally. Its a spec and coloyr combo we would of chose too, and i haggled a service pack and a few beer tokens as a sweetener. Got a tank of fuel and 6months tax. The octy needs tyres soon etc so all things considered its not a bad deal realy.
