  1. As long as it meets VW 504.00 & 507.00 specs then I should be fine? Does the Halfords stuff say "For variable service" or something to that effect or should I look for the oil that meets specific standards (in which case is it just 504.00 and 507.00?). Thanks!
  2. Thanks for your replies. Are you guys on variable servicing? If so, where do you get your oil from? I'd rather top up my own oil but have no idea where to get this VW Long life stuff and who makes it apart from the dealers direct (expensive). Could anyone point me in the right direction?
  3. At the end of November, I took delivery of a new 1.8TSI. I've had it 2 months now and have done just a little over 2650 miles. Breaking in the engine I didn't baby it nor did I trash it to within an inch of its life. I did a few journeys to London and back (about 80 miles each way) and the usual daily commute to work, which is quite short (about 3 miles each way) and the occasional long journey on weekends. The other day I checked my oil level and noticed that is has reached the minimum mark. I booked it in with the dealer who topped up the oil, checked for leaks and sent me on my merry way and told me to return in 600 miles for a checkup. I enquired about the large oil consumption and they said that this can be normal. In fact, he quoted one of the mechanics who said that they are designed to consume about 1L of oil per 1000km (~600 miles) when new. Whenever I talk to anyone about it they are all very surprised and the incredibly high oil consumption. Per the dealer estimates, when it reaches the minimum mark it has about 1L of oil left, whereas you can fill it up with about 5L in total (according to the dealer). This would mean that my car drinks 2litres of oil per month! Do I have a lemon on my hands and the dealer wants to play down the problems? Is this consumption normal and should I be concerned? Can I do anything to reduce this consumption or will it go down itself? Would like to know your thoughts on this.
  4. 1) If you are talking about DAB digital radio, then no it doesn't have that. 2) If you have ordered the Bluetooth carkit preparation then yes, you can use the mobile phone. If you haven't gone for the prep, then it will just act as a mute button for the stereo.
  5. Picked up mine yesterday, finally! 11 weeks from order to delivery including the 1 week stoppage time for the system upgrade. All of you still waiting, hang in there! It's certainly worth the wait! Now to find out how to enable Teardrop Wipe DRL Cornering Fogs Hazard lights on emergency breaking Anti-hijack Both rear fogs Any ideas? Anyone? (I'm located in Southampton but can obviously travel to a member willing to help out, I'll have a look at the members list with Vagcomms but if you can help, please do give me a shout/PM).
  6. Did you not see my post right before yours? Perhaps their particular system may have crashed, that I cannot say, but stock movements have definitely restarted again otherwise I wouldn't be picking up my car on Thursday.
  7. I can confirm that the new tracking system has been installed and vehicle movements have now resumed and therefore I'm picking up my car on Thursday! Yay!!!!!!!!111one
  8. I'm going to my dealer tonight to sign paperwork and will know more then.
  9. My dealer has confirmed that stock movements have restarted this morning! :-D
  10. Unfortunately due to the site being compromised the site owners had to revert to an earlier backup, which seems that we've lost (perhaps temporarily?) the latest posts on this thread (as well as others too). So I'm just going to quickly update this particular thread with what we were discussing on here before, which was the resumption of vehicle movements on Monday 23rd (today) for anyone that needs to know. My dealer asked me to come in this evening to sign necessary paperwork so unless I hear otherwise then it seems movements have resumed. Z (also it now appears that I'm posting for the first time as all my original first posts are gone, ah well)
