  1. After receiving my replacement ABS sensor last night i decided to pop it in and see what happened!. I did not expect to find the old sensor had " welded" itself into the hub! After half an hour of trying to remove it ( damage to plug fixture point caused during extraction!) it came out...minus the tip!. Looks like a hub stripdown Friday then :-)
  2. Hi Silver1011. Already spoken to a chap called John at Skoda UK. He was most sympathetic of my situation but alas he told me that (under orders from HQ) he was unable to assist in any way as the car was A) Over 5 years old and has not got a full dealer service history. To be fair I understand that he is only reiterating what his bosses have told him to tell me but not really much help with my problem!. Today i was considering ways in which water could "ingress" into the wiring loom.....did not have to look far to find several areas where the binding on bundles was very poorly wound leaving large gaps for water to enter a loom.....the best example is shown in this picture. A loom conduit placed right next to the washer water bottle filling point......just asking for a spillage of good old H2o to "ingress" the cars electrics!
  3. As you can see from my other post I have now been told that due to water ingress (?) I will need to shell out £1100 for a new engine loom as it appears that Skoda dealerships would rather throw the baby out with the bathwater (at owners cost) and replace loom rather than find short/break in a single lead and fix it! Takes 12 weeks and still no guarantee it will sort out my problems.....it just gets better!. Oh yes. As i had already been warned, Skoda UK will have nothing to do with it as the car is over 5 years old and has not got full service history.....although dealers did admit that the fault could have been there since "day one" i.e it was a manufacturing fault or build error. Now i have 2 options. Spend more money on chasing this or stick it up for sale as is and accept a huge loss on my part :-( Mmmmm.......what to do?
  4. Car had diagnostics....now told requires new engine loom @£1100!......water ingress is to blame apparently. Problem is i dont have the funds to pay such a bill....any suggestions?
  5. Spoke to an independant VW specialist on Tuesday. He told me that in view of the numerous issues with so many systems a trip to the dealership would probably gain more insight into the problem than he could offer. Took car in yesterday....waiting for a call today :-0.
  6. Found out another quirk about the over revving fault. It only manifests itself when the road speed indicated is approx 8-10 mph, then the engine begins to increase the throttle of its own accord without input from the pedal. if you allow the car to slow down either with braking or by loss of momentum the engine settles down again under 10 mph!....as i drove back onto the drive the power steering and brake system fail alarm kicked in.....had a look under the bonnet again for any obvious problems such as loose connections and the like...did notice that the feed pipe into turbo (i think!).....cast elbow on top left of engine with plastic hose connected to it, appeared to be a very loose fit even though the clip was fully engaged......to be honest i have resigned myself to having to invest a few quid into getting the car sorted at the dealership....not looking forward to the bill but what choice do i have? Still awaiting the details of Skoda UK's offer to look into it.... but not holding my breath :-)
  7. Hi Brimma. I am located in sunny (!) Sleaford :-), just down the A15 from you i believe. I haven't booked into Horton's yet due to bank holiday but the offer of a VCDS check is most welcome :-). Thanks. Andy
  8. I work at Rampton on occasion...perhaps they will take it in? I will get a diagnosis from Hawtons later in the week :-0. Any idea how much a new ECU costs if it is that?
  9. I took car out again today just on the off chance it had magicaly repaired itself :-). Same symptoms of engine rpm going up to 4000 + rpm without touching accel pedal. Also noted that speedo stops working and fuel guage reads zero at the same time as emmissions/ power steering/ brake system failure/abs fail indicators show and buzzer sounds. the more i notice about the problem the more i am thinking ECU!.
  10. @lemonvrs. I agree entirely. I think the problem lies with the manufacture of modern cars. Having worked in the aircraft industry for many years i know just how over engineered systems such as anti lock brakes are (and have been for decades before they where fitted to cars!). The production of modern cars has a major flaw. They try to incorporate a wide variety of safety and comfort features, whilst still trying to remain competitive in the market....result? Cars built with systems that use cheap components that will work (if you a lucky!) until the end of the warranty period, but then fail and force the owner to have to turn to the dealership for repair! Win Win for the manufacturer then :-). Mass production and technology are not really happy bedfellows in the long term, and the cost of carrying out very expensive repairs that soon become more than the cars value will ensure a regular turn over of new vehicle sales as they soon become "beyond economical repair". As I mentioned i have a 25 year old Scirocco and a 17 year old Golf......I very much doubt that in the future you will find any modern car achieving that age!. Of course some will say that that is a good thing and ensures that only the most modern, safest cars populate our roads......but when a device's reliability out ways it's ability to perform it's most basic function,no matter how many technological bells and whistles it has, it becomes a liability and a burden to its owner...not a good situation to base an industry on! Perhaps instead of asking about MPG, 0-60 times and what colours are available, maybe potential buyers should ask "Do i need to remove the bumper to change a bulb?" or "If the clutch dual mass flywheel fails at 15'000 miles how much will it cost?" or maybe "Can i do ANYTHING with the car without a laptop and a specialist piece of software?" :-) Technology......Can't live with it.....can't live with it!
  11. @cbj. I have replaced the battery and whilst doing so also did resistance check on earth strap and cleaned up connections.....as mentioned before it had no effect and the symptom remain the same. I am going to book into Hortons in Lincoln after BH (god help my bank balance!) as a last ditched attempt to resolve the problem...bottom line is that I don't have a great deal of "spare" cash left over each month and with 3 kids still under my care this is a very unwelcome expense to absorb....I have had a reply from Skoda UK after I posted a very blunt "I HATE MY SKODA" post on their Facebook page :-) (Got their attention!). Not sure if they will take my concerns on board about the dangerous combination of power steering failure coupled with out of control over revving....although i seem to remember a high profile story a while back about a similar fault with some Toyota models: http://articles.latimes.com/2010/feb/15/business/la-fi-toyota-deaths16-2010feb16 We will have to see what they say.....
  12. <p>Replaced the Battery today and cleaned and checked earth strap (found to be ok).....went for test drive. As expected the (still to be remedied ) ABS light came on. stopped at local garage to check tyre pressures, started car again and within 60 seconds i had Blackpool illuminations on the dash !. </p> <p> </p> <p>The fight goes on!</p>
  13. Hi Guys. Had a diagnostic carried out with a SNAP ON machine today which identified a front nearside ABS sensor error with intermittent communication...but no other errors! On way back from garage the engine yet again suddenly revved to 4300 rpm when the clutch was depressed, the Power steering, emissions and brake system lights illuminated and the dash began to bleep !......have been advised to replace battery and battery earth strap......anyone else have any suggestions to add? Cheers.Andy
  14. Hi guys. Last night things took a turn for the worst when, whilst driving back from the supermarket, i almost lost control the after the power steering failed and the engine suddenly began to rev on its own ! This happened as i approached a junction and gave me quite a scare! . The car is now on driveway and i am going to get diagnosis done today.....watch this space.
  15. Ok.Thanks chaps...to be honest I have been having a bit of a mare with life in general...i think the multiple issues with the Roomster coming as they did one after the other where the "straw that broke the camels back"!. Thanks for the info, i will see about getting a diagnostics check done...anyone recommend a decent one in the Grantham/Lincoln area?
  16. Ok Guys......I did perhaps have a little rant this morning, but to be fair I am not a happy bunny at the mo as it seems to be my newest car which always needs cash spending on it!...my 17 year old Golf and my 25 year old Scirocco just work.....and do the job they where designed to do without flagging up a new error virtually every other week! I have better things to do in life than keep attending to a temperamental car! Ref the 26 cars point after a recount it was not 26 VW branded Cars it was actually the 21 listed below plus a mixture of various Vauxhalls,Seats (non VW brand),Hyundai and Ford. List of VW group cars is as follows: (*reg year) Mk1 Polo Hatchback first car 1987 (1976 model) Mk1 Passat (1974) Polo Classic C Saloon (1981) Polo Classic C Saloon (1985) Jetta 1.3 C (1988) Scirocco Mk2 GT2 (1989) 1989 VW Passat GTI (1988) VW Scirocco GT2 (1990) VW Jetta TX Mk2 (1987) VW Passat GL (1990) VW Vento SD (1995) VW Polo Mk2 Hatch (1985) VW Polo Mk2 Hatch ((1987) VW Golf Mk4 (1999) VW Passat mK3 (1991) VW Vento 1.6 (1996) VW Scirocco GT2 (1991) VW Scirocco GT2 (1992) VW Scirocco Scala (1987) Skoda Roomster (2006) All apart from the Skoda have been brilliant cars which only required work to be done after substantial mileage (over 100'000 miles!) or fair wear and tear (clutches, brakes, oils, filters, tyres etc). The truth is that i did genuinely like the Roomster when we bought it about 2 and half years ago but the constant "alerts" which appear on the dashboard and the several breakdowns due to flat battery (see list of problems) have seriously undermined my confidence in the car......I am not a Troll and I think that my comments as an owner are valid.... By the way I commute a 90 mile round trip to work each day in my 1995 Golf TD and my wife uses the Skoda to get around town, school runs and shopping.....if the car can't cope with what we use it for then perhaps it should be mentioned in the users manual ! So come on then folks.....as it appears i go more replies from my blasphemous comments about the Roomster today than i did when i appealed for help a few days ago......anyone got any useful suggestions that may help my situation....or have i been ostracised from the Forum for my sin? Faults are currently: Fan comes on for no reason when car stood on drive or parked and drains battery until you cannot start car Turning headlights error warning on dash ...although these are not fitted ABS light comes on and stays on Power steering light has now joined the ABS light Just had a belly full of issues.......just want a car that works without "issues" !
  17. Well i have now officially decided that my 2006 (56) Roomster TDI is indeed the WORST CAR i have ever owned!...and i have owned 26 VW branded cars in 25 years. Well done Skoda....looks like the old stigma is alive and well !...I would never recommend one to a friend....because i would like to keep them! An absolutely awful, money draining, unreliable car i have never come across, and as for the technology it depends upon to work.....more trouble than it is worth! Got a dashboard with more lights on it than Blackpool currently....and at under 50000 miles and less than 6 years of ownership (from new) it is a joke! My 17 year old Golf TD is more reliable, vastly less costly to maintain, more fun to drive and crucially it only cost me £400 to buy!.
  18. Hi Chaps (and chapesesses!). As i type this i am also using my other hand to tear my hair out over a problem i am having with my 2006 (56) Roomster...or rather my wife's Roomster (it is only mine when it goes wrong!). Simptoms: Wife tells me that on a run to Grantham on Tuesday she noticed the brake peddle was "kicking" and the yellow ABS light was on shortly after. On return home from a hard day at work i get to (more) work removing the front wheels to check the ABS sensor leads...they both appear to be fine. Recent service history of the car: over the last few weeks it has had console bush on passenger side replaced and new front and rear brake pads. The problem developed over a week after the last work had been completed. Local machanic tried using his ODB handheld (not the VAG one) and it came up with no logged errors. I used a friends Bluetooth OBD using the torque Android app and it too came up with zero errors...although i swear that a message about wheel communications flashed up for a couple of seconds before vanishing...and not in error log!. Really need some help here guys....please ! :-/ Many thanks in advance. Andy
  19. Hi Fabdavrav. Ok...in no specific order :-) Skoda Roomster 1.9 TDI October 2006. Console bush on passenger side was replaced 18 months ago Sons trip in pretty direct with main roads and almost no congestion....economy (MPG) still approx 42 ish! Fault code? No fault code was displayed. No log of any error was found. Regarding trim levels = temp gauge. Since when has having a temp been optional? Had a conversation with a work colleague who asked the question "So the fuse blows on your cooloing fan and you are on a long journey stuck in traffic without anything to take the heat from the engine...then what?" Is there a safety cut out if the engine overheats due to a blown cooling fan fuse? If not..how does the driver know the engine in in danger of overheating? Andy
  20. Hi People. I have owned my Roomster since 2009 when I purchased it from my father. The car had only done 16'000 in 3 years and even now has only 42'000 on the clock. Along the way over the last 2 years we have suffered a few minor issues with the car, and these are as follows: Fan turns itself on even when engine stone cold and has resulted in completely flat batteries when we return to the car followed by the enbarrasing bump start along the car park! (Took fuse out to cure it!) A little yellow light illuminates to tell me (acording to the manual) that the cornering lights are faulty.I don't think i have any and an ECU diagnostic revealed nothing..light on dash goes out approx 1 min after start up. Annoying rubbery type grinding noise from under drivers floor...think this is the rear console bush perhaps? radio once stopped working. well it turned on but there was no noise at all...strange! Sorted itself out the next day! Wear on the outer edges of both front tyres...still sorting that one. Hate the fuel remaining fuel system.....goes from "you have 25 miles of range" to "you have 10 miles of range" after running my son to school which is a return trip of 6 miles.....? Why did Skoda decide to not fit a temparature gauge? Andy :-)
  21. Hi. Our 206 '56 roomster is great except that today my wife mentioned that the reverse gear selection was a little "rough".I had a go and found that the selection was a little "notchy", as though you could feel the cogs meshing as they went in.I realise that there is no synchro on reverse or first, but as the car is only 3 years old with under 17'000 miles should i be bothered and have it checked or not ? The warranty expires in 7 days !. Andy
  22. Having just purchased my dads 2006 Roomster 2 1.9 Diesel from him just under a week ago i have now been made aware of a rather interesting problem surrounding the model that it is listed as on its VOSA MOT certificate (which it had given last week). The print out contains the relevant info, except that the car is now (apparently!) a Fabia !. Just to add more annoyance into the mix, the VOSA people now want me to drive the car to Sheffield to confirm that it is indeed a Roomster!.. Now correct me if i am wrong, but my V5 clearly states that the car is indeed a Roomster (along with chassis numbers etc), so why don't VOSA (a government agency) contact DVLA ( a government agency) to confirm details......but of course abviously this is far too simple!. Strangely, the local dealership (who did not supply the car, but did the MOT) have very generously offered to drive the car up to Sheffield AND stick some Diesel in to cover the journey!........i get the feeling that perhaps SKODA UK have made something of a mess up with the paperwork perhaps ? Anyone else had this happen? I guess that more may come to light as the Roomsters all begin to require MOT tests...lets just watch and see! :-)
  23. Hi.My names Andy, i work as an engineer within the NHS (I repair the machines that go "ping"!).I am married with 3 kids, drive a 1987 VW Scirocco (i have had 19 VW's so far!) and i have just bought my fathers 2006 Skoda Roomster 2 TDi from him...hence why i am now a member of the forum! I have an interesting post whic i will now post in the Roomster area.....wonder if anyone else has come across this particular problem....read on :-)
