  1. Have noticed on a few occasions that mention has been made of the apparently inadequate design of the oil pump mechanism on the Superb 1 2.0 tdi. Though well-meant I'm sure, the tone of the warnings is such that to anyone of a nervous disposition this problem is lurking only 'just around the corner' whether the car has done 40000 or 140000 miles and you must 'get rid'. Though not all Series 1 owners are on Briskoda, a good number must be, and there are hundreds, if not thousands of this model on the road. How many owners of this model have actually experienced this problem? One has recently been reported with a repair cost projected at 1.8k but even if the owner wants and can afford to pay this, from the advice seen already on this forum, the inference is that it would be a waste of time because the design fault is so bad, it could fail again in a very short time; ie. it's a permanent time bomb. Might not the manner in which the car is driven be a factor? If a car is generally driven very robustly, (for want of a better word), the chances are that parts will wear and fail more quickly than on a car generally driven in a less vigorous fashion. No guarantee of this of course but on balance probably true. I'm trying to put this into perspective and certainly not trying to diminish what rotodiesel and others say, (I respect the effort they put into trying to help other users), but I think it would be helpful to all Series 1 owner with this engine to know how many there are of us, what mileage our cars have done and, if they have had the problem, roughly at what mileage it happened. I have an Elegance with everything on it currently showing 75000 miles and have not experienced it. A great car but with the 'water problem' which I am sorting out. Great forum this.
  2. Whilst removing rubber bungs to help drain off water in rear footwell, saw that the nearside protective cover over what I think are the brake pipes was missing. Anyone know the part no. and cost? Thanks
  3. Re andrehj 21.12.12, is he talking about a software mod. (chip) to a greenline? I thought the bhp was 105 but he says 114 before chipping. What would be the disadvantages of chipping this model, (greenline); mpg, engine stress, loss of road tax benefit or none provided the engine isn't thrashed?
  4. Thanks Nacuck for this helpful reply especially re the rear rubber bungs. Have seen on this topic reference to removing the plugs under the battery etc compartment so that water can drain away, giving the impression that they should in effect be discarded permanently so that the build up of gung etc which blocks the drain holes in the plugs shouldn't re-occur. But surely the plugs are there for a purpose and if the drain holes in these plugs are kept free of gung, water will not be able to build up? Or am I too trusting. Have been using a strong vaccum cleaner to suck out water thro' the carpets prior to carpet removal etc (time being the problem at present) and must have taken several pints from the passenger rear footwell already. Car currently raised at the front on ramps to get more water out. Rear Bungs out tomorrow I hope.
  5. Have a '56 model. Have water problem but with a slight difference. Only rear footwells seem to have water. 18 months ago lights in roof above dsh/brd and visor mirror lights stopped wkg., footwells, boot and glove comptmnt OK. About 1 mth ago all lights started again, great! 10 days later they stopped, now including footwells, boot, glv.cmpt. etc. Day later noticed wet in rear footwells especially nearside which shows on surface tho' offside squelches when pressed. No squelching or evidence of water in front footwells. Could the source of my problem be something different from what is appearing in this topic responses? Will drill holes to release water of course. Thanks for all the info.
