  1. My DSG7 Mechatronics unit packed up at only 14 k miles/4 y.o. £2200 to replace but Skoda paid 60% after I threw a wobbly. SIX WEEKS before I got my car back due to snail processing at HQ plus a dealer administration error. Still got the traditional DSG 2nd gear judder so new clutch pack will be the next thing......
  2. My PRNDS flashed - turned out to be mechatronics failure at only 14k miles/4 tears old (mistype strangely appropriate) - protested to Skoda customer care who offered to pay 60% of the £2200 cost (!) To cap it all, dealer admin error and glacier-slow processing by VAG HQ Milton Keynes meant it took SIX WEEKS to get my car back!
  3. Mine still judders after having had the mechatronics unit replaced (after only 14k miles- but that's another story!). I've heard it's a 'feature' of this gearbox. My friend has a low mileage VW Passat with the same gearbox and it's started to judder too.
  4. Just bought a Sakura steering wheel cover from Amazon (better-looking than the tacky boy-racer ones from Halfords) and boy, what a difference! Much more leverage and grip to get the car into those tight car parking spots. I've always found my Octavia hard leather steering wheel a bit slippery. No longer.
  5. I bought an immaculate 54 plate Octavia fsi Elegance about three months ago and am delighted with it providing I drive under 25 mph! Above that tyre noise kicks in, expecially on Britain's notorious stone-chip bitumen roads. It makes a noise as if the car it dragging a sack of gravel, expecially when all the windows are wound up. It's not loud of course but it still irritates, especially on motorways. It is one of of the most road-noisy cars I've owned, certainly noisier that the Fabia Comfort I used to have. The noise detracts from the car's semi-luxury feel. I have 205/55 r16 tyres on alloy wheels. I notice some Octys have 195/65 r15 tyres. I am thinking of changing to fatter tyres which may mean changing the wheels as well. Has anyone any stories of changing tyres/wheels to reduce noise? Has it worked? I am willing to sacrifice handling for the sake of the quieter life!
  6. Hi! I'm Steve Johnson, new member and proud owner of an immaculate 54 reg Octavia fsi Elegance which many people think is new. One owner, only 18k miles. My family used to own a much-loved Fabia Comfort but it was too small for two growing kids and their luggage on holidays. The only complaint I've got about the Octy is the tyre noise, and I think I have to go to the appropriate forum to seek answers. Goodbye and happy Skoding!
