  1. Recently the blower control on my wife's City Go has stopped working on settings 1,2 and 3. Position 4 works without any problem. Any ideas where the fault may be? Thanks in advance for any replies.
  2. Yes the 18'' Gemini will fit in the spare wheel well, as I recently got hold of one as a spare. However it does raise the carpet very slightly (perhaps quarter of an inch, what ever that is in metric !). I didn't fancy the idea of using the 'bicycle' space saver which came with the car in an emergency, especially when towing the caravan.
  3. Picking up the car on Friday and a couple of questions. 1. What rating tyres can be used (225/40 18)? As the top speed quoted is about 139 mph could I get away with V rated or are W or XY necessary ? What rated tyre would have been fitted from new ? 2. Is it possible to get hold of an 18'' steel spare wheel and would it squeeze into the spare wheel well ? Thanks in advance for any replies.
  4. Recently on three longish journeys from Suffolk to Liverpool and to and from South Wales engine power has suddenly dropped as if the turbo has cut out. It would maintain the speed I was doing but refused to go any faster. No warning lights came on and there was no increased noise from the engine. Once the engine was switched off for a few seconds and restarted it ran normally. On asking the local dealer it was at first said that it could be a senser and there was nothing to worry about. On a second visit it was plugged into their diagnostics and they said that no fault was found. However they said that the turbo could be on the way out. The turbo isn't making any untoward noises or whistling. Any ideas on the problem would be appreciated. The car is a a non CR 2.0 TDI with 37000 miles on the clock, has been regularly dealer serviced and the cam belt etc changed last October. Thanks in advance for any replies even if they are all doom nd gloom.
  5. Whilst looking through e-bay I spotted 5 Litres of Quantum long life 504/507 at £29.99 plus £6.95 delivery. The seller was the Marriott group and the address was Stowmarket (Suffolk). It had to be Barnards VW. I went along this morning and asked the price ---- '£50.11p' was the reply. I pointed out that on e-bay it was shown at £29.99. The bloke on the counter said that they would honour the on line price. I therefore bought two 5 litres and was charged £59.69. Not sure how much they've got left but if your in the area go along with an e-bay print off and pick up a bargain.
  6. Did go by numbers on the computer, but had never seen figures like this on the computer before. After filling up following some stop start slow shopping traffic I had covered 345 miles and put in 6.38 gallons to fill the tank. This gave me figures of 54 mpg! I'm still amazed how the figures have improved so much following the cambelt change.
  7. Had the dreaded cam belt, water pump and a couple of other jobs done at CARS in Coggeshall last week. On the return journey home (A12/A14) noticed a marked improvement in mpg. Instead of the usual 46/47 got a reading of 57! A few days later trip to Wales (A14/M6/M42/M5/M50/M4)recorded 55.9. Wasn't hanging around and kept up with a 2.0l Scirocco TSI from M50 to junction 48 on M4. Anyone have an explanation as to the dramatic improvement in MPG? Could it have been the the original factory set timing wasn't spot on? Interested to hear people's comments.
  8. If anyone else is thinking of going over to Germany it is now mandatory to have winter tyres fitted to their vehicles between October and Easter. Failure to comply will result with on the spot fines by the police.(On the spot fines means on the spot in Germany.)
  9. Ordered and paid for 4 Marangonis from My Tyres last week. Delivery expected this coming Wednesday. Checked their web site today and in the space of less than a week they've gone up by £114 !!! What can you say ?
  10. We visited VW's Autostadt in Wolfsburg last year and were told on the tour around the factory that any vehicle in the VAG range including Lambos etc could be collected from their very swish collection point any day of the year! Tour around the factory was amazing as were the two glass towered and computerised storage areas. We were rather disappointed with rst of the complex. Roland.
  11. I'm seriously thinking of getting some steel wheels to fit winter tyres on my 2.0TDI Octy. Will any 16 inch steel wheels of the same width from the VAG/Audi group be OK ? Also would there be any problems going 195 rather than 205 ? Tyres I'm looking at are Nokian WR G2. Thanks in anticipation Roland.
  12. I'm about to have a tow bar fitted to an Octavia II with parking sensors. Can I get away with a fixed ball towbar or should I go for a retractable type ? I'll be towing a caravan. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
