  1. Hi guys, My girlfriend has a pre facelift Octavia estate (2008) and I'm looking to get her a decent aftermarket stereo for her birthday. I've had a look at the pumpkin units but have seen mixed reviews. Preferably looking for something with sat nav that maintains steering wheel controls and parking sensor display. I appreciate any help you guys can give! Thanks! Dan
  2. Oil light sorted. Just needed a top up. Still have the turbo issue though. I guess this may have been worsened by the low oil though? Told her to keep an eye on the oil level but I think it'll be going to a garage for a check up on the turbo. It's not sounding great, done 96k and I know the turbos on the pd's are prone to going. Edit: wasn't driven once the oil light had come on. She pulled up immediately. Checked the oil recently and the level was alright so was surprised when it needed topping up!
  3. My girlfriends octavia 2.0 tdi pd (2008) has a very whistly turbo. The noise has changed to a wheeze and the oil light came on. I'm suspecting failed turbo or failing. There have been no bangs or anything that suggests its gone completely. Is there any way to force limp mode so that she can drive home off boost? I know it's not ideal to drive a car in this situation but there's no other alternative to get it to a local garage. Thanks in advance.
  4. All sorted apart from the one plug I haven't yet changed. Had to buy a new coil pack for the 3rd cylinder as I expected. Thanks to everyone for their help throughout (especially GoneOffSki).
  5. Would losing the internal rubber on the coil be an issue? I've read that it wouldn't but I feel that it could. Only changed the three that are easily accessible due to time constraints, so pipes should be fine. Checked all gaps when putting them in and they were fine.
  6. So, managed to sort this in the end with a slight hitch. Only changed the three plugs with easy access due to time constraints. One plug (middle of the three) got the rubber stuck on from the coil. Believe I managed to retrieve all of this but the car has developed a misfire after completing and check engine light comes on under load. Any ideas to resolve?
  7. I saw EA57 LAY on the back of a motorbike recently!
  8. Just double checked and it is actually 1mm. I was looking at the wrong side of the gap tool I've borrowed. Right, so the advice is to close the gap down to 0.8mm? Thank you for making me double check!
  9. I'll upload a picture tomorrow to ensure I'm measuring them right, but fairly sure that I am!!!
  10. Just measured them using a coin gap tool and can confirm that they are pre-gapped at 0.4mm out of the box. Bought them from euro car parts based on the car registration.
  11. The plugs I've bought are vk20 5604 Denso iridiums. They come gapped at 0.4mm. Will this be OK or do I need to widen the gap as I've read on the main sticky thread that they're normally gapped at 0.8mm. The car is standard and has done 61k miles. Friend is competent and has helped me do the spark plugs on my BMW Mini, but that was much easier access! Thank you again for your contribution, I really appreciate it.
  12. Thanks for the help. What are the pipes for? I couldn't tell by looking - not quite that tech minded. My friend who is more so will be helping me to change the plugs.
  13. Sorry to revive this thread but nobody answered this question and I need the answer myself! What are the wires and tubes to the left covering the spark plug and do they need to be removed to change the plug?
  14. Tried my local dealer for the plugs and they wanted ~£60 for platinum ngk's. Don't know what they'd charge labour wise.
  15. Thanks. Any guides or advice on making the tool to remove coils? I don't have time to order one online before Friday /Saturday when I wanted to change them and can't find any shop that stocks them...
