  1. Hi all. The EMS light came on a couple of months ago and after visits to the Skoda dealer, the fault was diagnosed as needing a new Lambda sensor. This was fitted on Tuesday. First time I take a journey myself in the car (other than the 2 miles home from the dealer) and the EMS light is back on again. Has anyone had any similar problems relating to Lambda sensors and why a change has not fixed the fault. I know it could be a new fault, but that's a bit unlikely given the light is back within 10 miles. Thanks.
  2. Thanks for the replies. I've checked in daylight and they are black (not a dark grey). Black Magic by the sounds of it, which is also lucky as I have some of that paint from a Golf I had in that colour some time back. All responses appreciated.
  3. The family Citigo has a badly scratched alloy (Auriga style, black metallic). We have an Octavia as well and this turned out to be an Audi paint code that was the exact match for that particular silver. Does anyone know the colour code (black) for the Citigo? Thanks.
  4. Thanks for the confirmation. Just been back to the Tyre dealer who have had to reset it all back - and after a struggle refund me for doing work that wasn't necessary.
  5. I've just had 2 new tyres fitted and asked for the alignment to be checked at the same time. Some adjustment was needed. When I got home and looked at the alignment printout it was marked as: Skoda 2009, Octavia I (1U) (G85) (G35) RS and Sport Suspension. The actual vehicle I have is a vRS (Mk2) 59 reg. Does this all tie up or does it look like they have aligned it to a different (wrong) model? Thanks for any input.
  6. I've now replaced the driver side sensor (new one from Skoda so have to assume it is not faulty) and I still have the same problem - ie: unless the temperature is set to maximum I can only get cold air from the drivers' side vents. Passenger side is fine. So if the senor is ok, and the hot and cold air can be supplied it's as if it can't do a mix for some reason (ie: it's eithe all hot or all cold). Any other thoughts from anyone as to what else it could be. Thanks.
  7. Thank you Sllver; don't know how I missed all that in my search. I take it that there are just the two sensors - so in my case it looks like I need to replace the driver's side one. Thanks again.
  8. I seem to have a problem with the heating / air-con in my Octavia vRS (2009). It's not felt right on the drivers side for some time and now I've deduced that even if it is set to provide the same temperature on both sides of the car, the drivers side footwell and far right side face level vents will be feeding cold air through even when the temp is set to (say) 23 yet the passenger side will be feeding an expected moderate temperature. I'm assuming there are sensors in several place so the question I think I need an answer to is how many sensors and where are they. Thank you in anticipation.
  9. For those that are interested, all now appears to be resolved. Second dealer in Alicante as good as said that the first dealer had not fitted a suitable sensor. They fitted the correct latest version and did a forced regen. No warning lights and running as it should. And this dealer (Sala Rodriguez) didn't charge me as the part fitted last week was under warranty. Excellent service here - despite my lack of any Spanish. So EuroDenia (Skoda dealer) were either incompetent or worse! Thanks to Briskoda for having so much value in the forums that allowed me to work out that the sensor was likely to be the problem; and in providing the part numbers that allowed me to progress. Thanks to those that responded and especially those that offered personal help. Much appreciated on all fronts :-)
  10. Unfortunately it's 6 months out of warranty. I did speak to Skoda UK about the replacement sensor fitted by garage number 1 - and they confirmed that it was strange they should replace it with the old style sensor when the replacement one (made in Malaysia) has been around for a couple of years.
  11. Your offer of help is appreciated. Unfortunately I'm over on the Costa Blanca. I'm booked in with a dealer in Alicante tomorrow (organised by Skoda Assist / RAC) so an early morning slow limp mode drive of about 40 miles. Hopefully they'll do a proper job though I may still end up having to accept a large bill for a DPF that I'm still convinced should be fine given my driving style. Thank you again.
  12. The initial problem was the exhaust system warning light but the car was running fine. Then after a visit to a Spanish Skoda dealer I've 3 lights, in limp mode and am told I need a new DPF - given driving style I doubt this but I don't speak Spanish so am kinda stuck. Second opinion dealer later this week. Hence thinking whether I can get back to UK with car as it is (that's about 600 miles or so). The original warning light was supposedly a defective sensor (one discussed on here several times) and whilst they have replaced this, it's with the old US version (and dated manf 2009) and not the Malaysian update.
  13. Evening. Having gone from just one warning light to three after a visit to one Skoda dealer in Spain, I'm now waiting on an appointment with another dealer - though further afield. Out of interest, how far can a car travel in 'limp' mode - and what extra problems are likely to arise as time and miles go on. All input appreciated. Thanks.
  14. Related to my earlier questions on being stuck in Spain, I refer to a post from 3 years ago: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/173341-control-system-for-exhaust-gases/ In this it talks about a part Part Number - 03G 906 051A - which is as I understand it a 'faulty' exhaust system sensor. Firstly, do we have any concrete evidence that Skoda say this is faulty. Moving on and the reason for asking is that the dealer replaced this for me yesterday in Spain; the invoice and the box both say 076 906 051A which the previous thread says is the replacement. HOWEVER when I look at the actual part (which I found surprisingly easily) it is the same part number as the one they removed (which they did return to me). The date on the new part is 2009 - and it also has a strange blue pen mark over the date. Any more thoughts. I am potentially going to state this to Skoda Assist who sent me to this dealer in Spain - and hope that they will see that I have been left in inappropriate hands. Thanks for any input.
  15. Hello from what seems like ‘stranded in Spain’. A quick resume. 2009 FL vRS CR 170. Drove from North to South in a ‘spirited way’ as they say along motorways (about 520 miles). In the UK a lot of my driving is motorway as well. A few days later the ‘exhaust control system light comes on’. Car still performing ok. I call Skoda Assist (I’m out of Warranty but bought another 2 years of Assist). They pointed me at a dealer about 15 miles away who couldn’t take the car for a couple more days anyway (today 19th). Took it in this morning. An hour later they tell me it’s the sensor (referenced in this post and when I looked at the old and new part number they match). http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/173341-control-system-for-exhaust-gases/ They also said it needed a regen. Back at 1pm and the regen hadn’t worked so they would have another go after their siesta. Back at 6pm and no joy. Need a new DPF at about 2000 euros. They can’t do this for 10 days. I get in the car and it has now got 3 lights on (Exhaust as before; DPF which wasn’t on before and has never been on in 50000 miles; and the glow plugs). And the car is driving in limp mode – again was fine when I took it in. So all a bit fraught. If I get this done (and I may have no choice) then the warranty on the new unit should it develop a fault won’t be recognised by SUK I would guess. And as I see it this is a DPF that should easily have lasted more than 3.5 years of motorway driving – but what chance of SUK listening when it was changed by a non-UK dealer. Any and all thoughts would be welcomed. Skoda Assist due to call me in the morning (sat 20th) but so far all they can say is that it’s a Skoda dealer and we have to follow what they say. I may even have to return to UK before the due date – not sure how I will manage that either; slowly? As an aside, and it could be a red herring, the work sheet shows the code for the ‘motor’ as CEGY – but my service book shows CEGA – could just be a typo? Teach me to come to Spain in my own car – or at least one that is not inside the 3 year warranty period.
  16. Decided to drive to Spain this year in my vRS instead of hiring the usual Hyundai Getz - felt it would end up cheaper over 3 or 4 weeks. The day after I arrived the Exhaust Control system light came on. And despite the hope that it would maybe not come on the next day it did. Are there any items that can be self checked on this. The book implies the car will select an emergency programme though so far I've not noticed any difference in the way the car is handling. Not sure I want to try and locate a local dealer and the subsequent language barrier, though apart from local travel while I am here I'll have a 600 mile trip back in a few weeks. Thanks all.
  17. Thanks for the initial replies. And yes, the handbrake was applied - force of habit (but will bear that in mind next time around).
  18. Just been fortunate enough to be abroad for 3 weeks. Picked up my car from the long stay Gatwick last night and the brakes are suddenly really noisy / juddery. The car is running fine; just the brakes when they are applied. Not sure what the weather has been like in the 3 weeks to have caused this. Although I've done about 50 miles since, still not eased off much. Any ideas, thoughts, suggestions to fix would be appreciated. Model is vRS, 2009. Thanks.
  19. Not sure if anyone else has had this problem yet, but I took my vRS for its first MOT today (not a Skoda dealer). And it nearly got failed or I nearly got an extra bill. The issue surrounded the two sidelights in the headlight unit which we all know don't get used (and I believe aren't even wired up). Having waited for 45 minutes I asked if there was a problem and was informed that both my sidelight bulbs had failed and they were looking to see how quickly they could replace them. It took me 10 minutes of persistance and demonstrating that the side lights on the vRS are the DRLs. So in the end I got my pass certificate. But for anybody else about to go for an MOT it might be worth mentioning this up front in case the MOT testers don't know.
  20. It may be a typo, but it's 693 and not 963.
  21. Found this on BBC site - hope it helps where you are: Radio 4 is also available on Long Wave at 198 LW and on Medium Wave in the following locations: Aberdeen - 1449 MW Belfast - 720 MW Carlisle - 1485 MW Cornwall - 756 MW Enniskillen - 774 MW London - 720 MW Londonderry - 720 MW Newcastle - 603 MW Plymouth - 774 MW
  22. I've found TMS on 720 medium wave. As far as I can tell, it's the full coverage the same as on LW.
  23. It would be really useful to know whether those who've obtained an update are able to say what version of firmware they've been updated to. Then all the rest of have to try and do is see what we have at present. Anybody any ideas on how we might find this out?
  24. Sounds like they've changed the software or something. My top level menus is MFD, Phone, Audio, Setup and Assistant. What I use to change ringtone is under 'phone' as in the earlier post. Mind you I've just looked in my handbook which says: Settings In the menu Settings you can select the following menu points:  Phone book  Update  List  Surname  First name  Ring tone. That's not in line with what I said earlier - but I can tell you that on my car (MY2010) the handbook is therefore wrong. Sorry - lost as to what to suggest now.
