1.8TSI and 2.0TSI engine failures

If the garage is a member of the Motor Ombudsman you can also go that route as that is what l did . -
Hi l was wondering if anyone could advise on an issue that has started happening to my Columbus Head Unit in the last week. When l turn it on after it has not been used for a hour or two. It cycles through turning off and on .After it has been on for a while this stops.see attachment showing the cycling HwVideoEditor_2021_09_15_111154691.mp4 .Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

1.8TSI and 2.0TSI engine failures
streetfighter73 replied to DGW's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
I've had it since 2012.I got my money back for the engine replacement from the garage as there was a distinct rattle for a few seconds on start up which is a precursor to the cam chain going .l told the garage twice but they said not to worry then it whent bump. The car had done 100,000 miles at that stage. It took 2 years through the motoring ombudsman before they found in my favour. I got the manifold changed at the same time.lts done 30:000 on the new engine with no problems. It's a dsg with full leather interior and Columbus media system.Everything else has been solid and it still drives really well.If Dsg make sure the Dsg oil has been changed at every 40:000 miles.lt still drives and handles like the day l got it. -

I had my Engine replaced following tensioner failure in my 2011 vrs in 2018 .The only other expensive ltem that they are prone to from that era is the air intake manifold flaps coking up showing an error message. This can cost about £900 to be replaced. The replacement one is a different revision and less prone to faliure. If you YouTube it there are plenty of videos .You should check it has the revised one.I got mine done when the engine was placed as they had to remove it to change the engine. Watch the video on the below link to see the differences and you can check if the car you are looking at has the revised one. -
Well after 2 years we finally won our case through the motoring ombudsman against my Skoda dealer.Originally I had a strange rattle on startup .l took the car into the garage twice worried it was the cam chain tensioner.l was told they were not concerned only for the tensioner to fail a month later .l had to pay.for a new engine but paid under protest.l the took the garage on through the motoring ombudsman giving them as much evidence as l could with reference to me telling the garage what l thought the problem was and loads of articles, utube videos and VW technicle bullitens. After two years the Ombudsman have found in my favour and the garage reluctantly have had to refund me for the cost of the new engine. It was a long slog but l got there eventually

Hello l have a 2017 superb estate and the outside air temperature reading is roughly 10 degrees higher than it should be for example when it's 8 degrees it reads 18-19 degrees. Is this a common fault?. l cannot find where the sensor is to check. On my Octavia it's easy to locate but not on the superb.

many thanks will have a look. -
Hello .l was wondering if anybody could help me.l have a 2011 vrs TSI and the Abs/Esp error came up whilst driving on Friday. The dash lights up with Abs ,esp and the tire pressure sensor .the lights go out when l start moving but re illuminate with the warning at about 20mph. I live in Evesham Worcestershire and was wondering if anybody has a diagnostic reader who lives fairly local who could read the fault code so l can locate the area of the problem. Which sensor, bearing etc. Any help would be much appreciated.

This was what mine sounded like before the tensioner went. Got told nothing to worry about when l asked the dealer. -

And you get a £4800 bill for a new engine with no help from Skoda whatsoever. Just wait for the start up rattle. These engines are like a ticking time bomb. Unfortunatly l took the burying my head in the sand approach and are now £4800 pounds lighter with an ongoing 8 month ombudsmen case. -
Camchain/Tensioner faliure 2.0 VRS

Once you get the latest tensioner and chain you should be all good as l have not seen any reports of them failing. -

streetfighter73 replied to streetfighter73's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
Get it changed trust me it will go. Mine was a 2011 model and went at 100000. You sometimes get a small rattle on start up. I told Skoda about mine they said they would not be concerned. One month later engine would not start cam chain faliure. Just a poultry 10 percent goodwill offered despite me sending stacks of reports of this being a known problem and telling them about the rattle previously. Get it done now or you will be looking at a bill for £4800 like me. -
1.8TSI and 2.0TSI engine failures

If you go down the legal route l would be interested in joining a group litigation against Skoda UK for what is obviously a defective part from factory. -

streetfighter73 replied to DGW's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
We are in the process of complaining at the moment but l believe you can only complain against the garage not Skoda UK as they are not on the Ombudsman website list .Our issue was a bit different as we had already raised a concern about an engine rattle on startup with the garage fearing it was cam chain tensioner related. They had the car a week said they were not concerned by the rattle.1 month later the tensioner failed .We Did go to Skoda UK but only got offered a 20% goodwill gesture. The only way to go at the manufacturer is down the litigation route. -

1.8TSI and 2.0TSI engine failures
streetfighter73 replied to DGW's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
We have had the same issue. The more Skoda owners that can email the Skoda CEOs executive office direct with the problem the better. If you email particularly Rod Mcleod and FAO Gemma Gough as they both state there is no issue and won't take our evidence from the Briskoda forum because it is classed as 3rd party information. At the moment we have only been offered 20 % so called goodwill gesture and now filled out a claim against the Dealer that failed to diagnose the issue twice with the Motoring Ombudsman. Skoda should not be let off the hook. -

What l can't believe is the dealer had the car a week as well.l just don't think they took my issue seriously.lts serious now though Skoda not so simply clever. -
1.8TSI and 2.0TSI engine failures
streetfighter73 replied to DGW's topic in Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013)
I was wondering if anyone can give me some advice.l have a 2011 plate VRS TSI with a full Skoda service history. The car has done 100 thousand miles.I had a clatter noise on start up that lasted a couple of seconds on cold startups.l looked into this and found via internet sites that it could be the tensioner failing.l informed Skoda UK who suggested that I take it to the dealer for diagnostic tests.I videoed the noise and showed it the dealer and left with them for a week. When l dropped it off l showed the tech the video who agreed it could be a camchain tensioner issue. After a week l received a call saying they could not detect anything on the diagnostic and charged me 52 pounds.l mentioned about the clatter/rattle on the video to which they replied that they were not concerned by it and if it progresses to re book the car in .They also stated to fully check they would have to remove the engine which they did not think was nessarcery. On that advice which l have in writing l drove home.Thenoise did not progress but the tensioner failed last week and the car now needs a new engine.Skoda UK are currently looking into the matter but l was wondering on advice on where to go from here because if the garage had recommended me to change the tensioner when l took it in l would have got it changed.l have been completely wrongly advised by Skoda.Any help would be much appreciated.Ps l have already posted my own topic on this but thought l would add my issue to this topic as it is specific to my problem. -
