  1. I should be able to make this provided nothing major comes up at work ???? Will also see if BCP can also make it......... J
  2. Have to agree with Aspman - once you have a steam generator you won't go back to a normal iron! I've got this one (or similar) - http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/home-appliances/ironing/irons/philips-perfect-care-aqua-gc8616-30-steam-generator-iron-lilac-white-10021350-pdt.html What attracted me to this over some of the cheaper ones is that it has not got any temperature settings to worry about - perfect for anyone who just wants to get the job done with the minimum of fuss
  3. I'm going to try and get to this one....................
  4. Oh, I like lots of things, but grubby is not one of them
  5. Oi, the Q5 is not grubby!!!! Dirty, yes; Grubby, no. Just because I have no time to clean the car doesn't mean that it is unloved................ J PS - I'll park away from the Skoda's so BCP is not embarrassed :p
  6. Cheeky 5h17!!!! I now wish I had, but as I had no idea which car you were in, I would have had to write on every car windscreen that I thought might be yours Don't be silly, T has to get to school age to learn how to read!!!! J
  7. Sorry BCP, Unexpected trip to Italy that someone has to do (read that as I have to go to Italy), so can't make it to the mid-week meet........... I'll try (harder) and make it to one in August/ September. J
  8. Interesting thread........... I'm in the 'must have a spare in the car' camp as I would rather get going again, than have to mess about. When I had my Octi, I'd forgotten to order a spare, so as others have said, off to the parts department and all the bits ordered.......... Saved me once, late on a Saturday night, in the middle of nowhere...... Current car - a spare wheel was the first thing I said that it must have (then the discussion about other things came in)......... This car has a "collapsible spare", the rim is an 18" bit of black painted steel, and is very easy to use. Takes up less space and a normal 18" spare wheel, and is easier to get out of the boot, but it does take a few minutes extra to inflate the tyre with the supplied compressor. A sub-woofer still sits nicely in the spare wheel rim, so I get a spare wheel and space well used with a small sub......... This spare has actually been used 4 times in the last 18 months, and 3 of the times, a late night at the weekend change of wheel has saved me loads of hassle. Personally, I think it is lazy design not to include space for a spare wheel. Gunk and run-flats are only good if you have a small nail in the middle of the tyre - sidewall damage, on the edges, or a decent sized bit of debris mean that a spare is the only way forwards. I suppose a comment in a previous post rings true - it's an insurance policy. You don't want to have to use it, but you are glad you have it when it is needed. Sotonjoe - Why carry anything in the boot of your car? I suppose you don't have an ice scraper in your car, as where you live it never gets frosty?????? J
  9. BCP, Yes, it is me that is ill - I would have come, but I don't want to spread my cold to everyone 110% up for meeting in July. Mid month + mid week is nice as it does break the working week up. The Old Mill is a great venue, if a little far for those who live north of the river Medway! Every second month is not a bad idea as it won't then seem like 5 minutes has gone past since the last meet, and as the venue is not McDonalds prices, would be good on the budget.. Weekends are not good for me as too much to do then.................... Perhaps post all the dates for 2014 (July, September, November) in advance, so people can get it in the diary and have not really got an excuse to say yes, then not turn up (illness is the only exception)? J
  10. Very true. However, for information only, when I had my Octi vRS TDi (estate) I seem to remember getting mid 20k miles out of the front factory fit Conti 2's. Changed for Conti 3's and got about the same. Changed all 4 next for Conti 5's, and were actually wearing better than all the previous tyres. Car was sold about 10k miles after the Conti 5's were fitted, so have no reliable total usage details. Many will testify that I was not exactly gentle with my right foot, and there was always a boot full of heavy tools. I also thought that the balance between wet weather and dry weather handling plus road noise was good. Roads driven were a mix of motorway (60%), town (30%) and country lanes (10%). TBH, not the greatest tyres in snow, but they are sold as a summer tyre............. Remember, your tyres are one of the only things keeping you on the road..................................... J
  11. BCP - are you sorting out for the 18th?????? J
  12. Simon is in a good position - he needs to remember where he is, and how he is going to be getting home when I'm driving Just remember - Any car that can survive more than 12 months of me carefully driving it, will no longer have the build quality that it left the factory with J
