  1. the 17K I paid for my L & K 3 years ago looks very cheap now compared to the Elegance. £1000 extra for xenons,£600 for leather,£500 for metallic on the new model.Plus its a smaller engine. Admittedly I did get the VAT offer!!
  2. The residuals on a VW will always be better so a Golf seems a better investment if you don't need the boot space (the new Golf has more interior space than Octavia 2) The price increase is even bigger given the 20% VAT offer will be off. Spec on Elegance looks quite good - what about the 1.8 ???
  3. I'd be very surprised if Octavia has optional Bluetooth and MDI in the UK.These things are standard on the Rapid SE and Elegance models. DAB is the way its going in the UK - BMW have just made it standard across the range and most VW have it.
  4. Not very good if DAB and Bluetooth not standard across the whole range in the UK. Not many new cars are coming with these still optional esp Bluetooth. Both are standard on the most basic new Golf.
  5. After the fiasco of the Rapid pricing and spec what do Briskoda fans think Skoda UK will serve up for Octy 3? Looking at the current model range I think its a safe bet there will be a 1.4 Elegance and 2.0 CR Elegance. The current 1.4 has a list of £17,000 approx and the Diesel one £20,000 approx. Of course for the last 3 years plus there has been a 20% VAT reduction on full time. So my guess for the 1.4 Elegance would be £18500 and the diesel around £22000. I think anything more than 10% more for the MK3 will make owners go elsewhere and possibly less.(some premium brands have very attractive PCP deals where the payments are no higher due to better residuals). Current owners like myself will face a big increase in price as VAT free will be off and the current long running offer has had a negative impact on PX values. Any ideas when real pricing and order availability will happen?
  6. They will have to be careful - they can't go too high as people will just buy VW or Audi with their better residuals. For anyone who has bought an Octavia 2 like me in the last 4 years its going to be a big price increase due to the VAT offer which has been running non-stop. This offer has also affected residuals of the current Octavia as I'm finding out. They will also have to end the VAT offer on the Superb as it will be cheaper probably than Octavia - this will cause Superb sales to crash.
  7. ..and also the change from chain to belt for TSi seems to me to be a retrograde step. I believe VW say it will last the "lifetime" of the car - I wonder if this will be guaranteed or they will backtrack when they start failing...
  8. Highest oil consumption of any car I've ever owned - always carry oil in the boot.
  9. Its got to look better than the Rapid which is incredibly dull - Octavia 3 pricing will be critical. Without a VAT offer it is going to look expensive compared to the current one -and the VAT offer has been running the whole 3 years I've owned my Octavia!! It seems to have impacted residual values so the cost to change will be high. My PCP is up in Feb - went to see the dealer today and they could tell me nothing on when an Octavia could be ordered (they told me the Rapid is the direct replacement!! - I think not) so its looking likely I'm going to have to move brands as I like to change every 3 years.
  10. I had a look at one this afternoon outside my dealer. Very unimpressed by the styling of the thing - very plain. It was £20K which is stupid pricing. Its not aspirational motoring at all - The Kias look better than this I'm afraid. Also weird that this dealer also didn't have one in his showroom to sit in...
  11. I can see why people would substitute a Kia - the lack of news on the new Octavia is frustrating considering the current one can't be ordered any more. My L & K PCP is payable on Feb 1st and I'm really not sure what to do. BMW have some cracking finance deals at the moment for example but my initial enquiry on a 318d came back with bottom book on the Octy. I could pay it off with cash but that would eat savings on what appears to be a bit of a fast depreciator. I'd have another Skoda in an instant but really the Octy is the only sensible model in the range - engine in the Rapid is too small,Superb is a bit big for a single guy and the Yeti is great but a bit too pricey up the range with less chance of a deal....Like Evening Star the Golf 7 is looking a good bet..
  12. No you're not loopy PDIBK - theres no S with a diesel engine... Pricing for the new Octavia is going to be interesting. The new Golf is roughly the same price as the old one - can't help feeling some Rapids are over-priced given the somewhat poor spec on offer. The new Octavia can't really go too high as people will just buy a Golf instead or a Superb - the Golf will always have better residuals. Wonder if the VAT offers will continue - for the last 3 years Skoda have been continuously offering this discount on many models which I fear won't help residuals. My L & K is coming up for PCP end and values don't seem too great.
  13. The Elegance is a bit lacking for a top of the range model. I'd expect climate, parking sensors and a higher spec sound system. I think all Rapids have the same basic system "Swing" - why no Bolero???
